About us
unshine Construction is the construction division formed out of Sunshine Realty. We provide construction management, general contracting and self-perform subcontracting services in drywall, painting, roofing, carpentry and residential renovation. Sunshine Construction has the capability to manage the entire construction process including contract management, submittal processing, daily reporting of labor and material inventory, scheduling, requisition preparation and certified payroll. We are also able to self-perform work in drywall and painting on small – medium sized jobs up to a 20,000 SF. We are committed to helping clients solve the problem of their tenants being inconvenienced in the renovation of occupied residential, commercial or institutional spaces. We make every effort to minimize disturbance to the tenants while performing high quality work on budget and on schedule. We achieve this by meeting with the client and briefly explaining the construction process and what they may encounter while the work is being completed. We listen to their needs and priorities to determine what we can do to schedule the work and material delivery to minimize unexpected disturbance and keep the lines of communication open. While the team at Sunshine Construction has a passion for construction and love being immersed in the action of new walls going up and old systems being repaired or replaced, we realize that the goal of most customers is to have the work completed as quickly as possible so that the tenants can return to their regular schedule. We are constantly researching industry trends to find more cost-effective, time efficient and environmentally-friendly ways to perform the work. Project start December 2011 - end April 16, 2012. Prior to starting my project which was to start by leveling the garage I asked that a temporary fence be put in place immediately after as I have dogs. My project started right before Christmas and I expressed my concern about things flowing smoothly because of the holidays. This was the beginning of a downhill relationship.
HIghlights of my project:
1. The temporary fence was not initially installed I had to make several complaints and it was delivered days later.
2. High turnover in staff (there was no consistency in project staff).
3. One staff person came to my house at 9pm asking if I had a problem with his work quality as he was told that I had refused to pay the company and therefore they were not paying him. (I had paid them weeks before).
4. Concrete job was subpar as the coordinator did not order enough cement and the contractor was working until 10 pm attempting to complete the job in the dark.
5. When I went to choose the deck color and garage door colors there was always an additional cost from the original estimate. None of this was discussed prior to contracting.
6. There were at times gaps of up to two weeks when work was not being completed and only after I would reach out would it pick back up. Excuses ranged from a "special order" being placed for pressure treated wood to the permit taking to long. When I would review the permit dates the story did not align.
"We are very sorry about how your deck project was delayed. Sunshine Construction regrettably used the services of Damien Calhoun t/a The Calhoun Group as a subcontractor on this project and he failed to honor the terms of his agreement with Sunshine. His portion of the work resulted in the project not being completed in accordance with the usual high standards of Sunshine. Sunshine filed a legal action against “Damien Calhoun of the Calhoun Group” because of his breach of his agreement with our company and we obtained a judgment against him. Sunshine have since improved our reputations and vetting procedures."
