Unfortunately, I didn’t have a great experience with this company. To summarize my issues: They have a business model that is setup to OVERCHARGE customers. The Details: I had some work to be done on my hydronic heating system (radiator heaters). I get consultation with a guy from the company we talked over the issues and he seemed pretty knowledgeable. He devised a plan to correct the issue and said he can come back next week to solve it. It involved replacing 4 shutoff valves and re-orienting to copper pipes (releasing the sweat fittings and re-sweating the fittings after changing the angle). He said it would take a few hours to complete this work at a labor rate of $130 an hour. I said I fine and was expecting him next week. I then get an estimate from the office stating to complete work would be $750. 3 hours of work at a labor rate of $250 an hour. I called in to get clarity on the change in the labor rate and they stated that assistant was needed and total labor rate would be $250 an hour. I wasn’t too pleased at this, but I was like ok fine, $750 I can work with if the problem gets solved. The following week, 2 faces I have not seen before show up at my door to complete this work. I was already annoyed that the person who was knowledgeable on the work did not show up and these new guys were sent to complete work that they had no idea what was going on. I re-explained the situation, I had two floor mounted blower heaters that were apparently suffering from air being trapped in the system. The begin to work… which would be drain that part of the hydronic system to they can replace shutoff valves and re-orient pipes so air would not get trapped in the line. FIRST MAJOR RED SIGN…. After they open a drained valved, they stood there for some time waiting for the water to flow out. I watched for a bit and I asked did you guys open up a bleeder valve?? They didn’t… I was like *** to myself, how do you come work on a system like this and you not know that. So they open a bleeder valve and drain the system. Next issue… I had them replace these old shutoff valves with shutoff valves with bleeders on them. SECOND MAJOR ISSUE…. The “seasoned” tech installed the bleeder valve facing the ground… I pointed out to him and he began to discuss with me that he thought I wanted it that way so I can “flush” the system. I had to repeat several times… “It’s a BLEEDER VALVE” it’s there for bleeding air out. You can’t bleed air out if the valve is on the bottom of the pipe. Ok so they corrected that and proceeded to re-fill the system and check for full operation of the floor mounted heaters. They did spend some time bleeding those 2 floor heaters and got them to be functioning. During this whole process I did make note of another MAJOR ISSUE… This assistant was complete novice and really did not do much work at all. He basically watched the “seasoned” guy who installed bleeder valves upside down or sat in the truck. Bill comes… and it $2200-$2300 for 4 valves and 8.5 hrs of labor at … Basically 3 times the original estimate. I paid the bill but I planned to call the company on the next business day to complain and explain why I felt I shouldn’t have to pay that much since… 1 The assistant wasn’t needed. 2. They were making mistakes and being inefficient which drove up the hours spent on the job. The manager acknowledged that’s not how things were suppose to happen and apologized but was unwilling to substantially refund me cash (offered $260). “Mr. Rigaud, We apologize for the delay in response. We are able to give you a reduction in price, however, due to the work performed, and a change in the scope of work, we would only be able to provide you with a credit of $260.00. There were occasions when two (2) people were not able to fit in the same area due to space restrictions. Also, these particular types of work require two (2) persons. “ Which makes no sense… there was space restrictions so two people couldn’t work in the space but it requires two people so I get charged for two people… STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY… I Should of looked at the reviews because others have given 1 star reviews because of overcharging as well….

We failed the initial inspection. During the course of the work, there were 2 occasions when no one showed up to work at our home when they were scheduled. No one from the company called to let us know that our technician would not be coming. The owner of the company, Dave Johnson did not return calls when we were trying to find out if a technician was coming. After repeated tries, I was finally able to speak to Mr. Johnson and not only was he unhelpful, he was rude. The technician took twice as long to complete the job as was customary, according to my GC. On one occasion, after arriving an hour and a half late, the technician left mid day because he had to go to another job. Another day, the technician left for lunch an hour and a half after arriving. The technician was rude as well. My GC will finish the details that the plumber left undone with lame excuses, ie he claimed his saw blade was too dull to cut the bolts required in a toilet base. He did not have a simple O ring on his truck for a shower head. He misplaced the bolt covers from the box for a brand new toilet. I would stay as far away from this plumbing company as possible.

It would be in terms of expertise. Foley mechanical understands the science behind what they're doing. So when it comes to making changes and a system in the house and what it is going to do to humidity and overall facts. They are extremely scientific. whereas HD Johnson is a little bit more just by the book. If I show them something outside the whelm of what they do, they kind of struggle with it.

Arrived two hours after their three hour window. Spent most of 75 minutes on phone with manufacturer. Completed no repairs--will need to order part and come back. Still, charge for this visit alone was over $300, included a hidden $15 charge for "overhead" that nobody mentioned in advance when I specifically inquired about charges. This after their rep initially miscalculated and tried to charge over $400 for the visit.

Our AC had never worked properly even though it was installed in 2008. We know we got a lemon! In early June is was obvious that it just couldnt get our house to a livable temperature. Yes, a first-world problem, but we wanted the system we paid for to work. HD Johnson pretty quickly figured out that our system was poorly installed and leaking coolant (very bad). We had to replace the both the outdoor unit and the handler in the attic. They did it all in one day and we can now sleep at night! Thank you HD Johnson.

We were charged a lot of money and heat did not work as well afterwards.  Johnson came back and charged even more to fix the "problem" from the first visit.  There was no response from management when I complained about the cost and asked for a call back.
The technician did do a good job of installing a Nest Thermostat for us, but we believe the work on the heating system overall was costly and not effective.

The A/C unit in my of my apartment units had been intermittently failing for up to 24 hours at a time over several weeks. I had my longstanding A/C service provider come out (not HD Johnson), but because it was working when they arrived they left without doing anything. I then called them back twice after that when it failed, but they didn't show as promised. I then decided to go elsewhere and I contacted this company, HD Johnson, because they were listed on the Carrier website as a certified technician.

I called HD Johnson to see if they thought they could diagnose it if the unit was operating upon arrival. The receptionist was extremely friendly and professional, and she arranged for a very knowledgeable technician (manager? owner?) to contact me within an hour. He talked me through the symptoms, and based on what I told him we agreed to go ahead and replace the thermostat. The technician who came out to do the work was also very knowledgeable and professional, and came within the timeframe promised. Overall I am very happy with them, and based on how my old service provider came up short I have now found my new go to A/C shop for all of my apartments. Thanks for such great service!

Our boiler blew in the middle of the below freezing weather this winter and not only did they fit us in to their schedule immediately, they were able to put in place a temporary solution until they could fully fix the boiler (which took 4 days of full time work, and they even worked extra long days to get it done as quickly as possible). They were outstanding.

They were prompted, clean with a messy job, minimal disruption. Kept to the estimate. Fixtures work great. So far, they are our go-to plumber for about 10 years. Were disappointed in others.

We were impressed with how smoothly everything went. They were able to do the installation within a week of our signing the proposal. The technicians showed up on time, worked efficiently and neatly and cleaned up the site each day. They also refined the factory settings to make the units run quieter. They know their stuff. We got a few different quotes and the pricing was nearly identical, so we went with our local provider.

Our usual HVAC maintenance company couldn't do the job so a neighbor referred us to HD Johnson. Marlon came out and evaluated the situation, provided alternatives and prices, and pros and cons for each. The contractor coordinated with the electrician so that I only had to be here to let them in. The contractors arrived right on schedule, and used paper shoe covers inside the finished areas of the house. The work was completed within two days, the only nerve-wracking part was whether the AHU could be brought up by ladder, or would a crane be needed - ladder was sufficient. Work was excellent, very neat, and clean-up was thorough. In all, this contractor exceeded expectations.

This company is the reason we are joining Angies' List. After years of tolerating exorbitant bills from this co. for minor repairs, we are finally going to do our homework and find a competent HVAC repair co. that doesn't feel compelled to fleece its clients. This last visit which involved a minor problem that could have been diagnosed in 15 mins. and fixed in another 5 min. wound up costing us 2 1/2 hrs. of labor at $180/hr. Car mechanics are a dream compared to these guys.

We've been routinely over charged for years by this company but now it ends. Thanks A. List for creating a forum where we can find out who the good guys are and are not. After years of dealing with this company we can tell you that these are definitely NOT the good guys. We're moving on and so should you.
