Crestwood Carpet Cleaners

When I called to ask about having the carpet in one small room cleaned, they told me it would cost $69 in total. We made an appointment, and their technician arrived today to look at the room. He immediately announced that the carpet was a very nice wool Berber, and as such, should not be steam cleaned ($69) because it might shrink, but needed a $199 shampooing. (There are no stains, it is simply a little dirty). I told the technician that I was pretty sure it was not wool, but synthetic, but he insisted. So I suggested we burn a tiny sample of fiber from the rug to see. (He told me there is no difference in how they burn, which is patently untrue). I burned the sample in front of him, and indeed it beaded up like burning plastic, and smelled like burning plastic - not like burning hair, which would be the case for wool. At this point he told me he didn't want the job any more and walked out, which was OK, because I had no intention of using his services any more. I then called the company and spoke with the manager. He told me he was sorry about my experience, but then went on to try to convince me that the shampooing is much better, which makes me think the "bait and switch" may be company policy.
