Outstanding work by David L. He not only got my printer reconnected with my laptop, but also updated Adobe Acrobat and installed a free malware function.

This problem began on Saturday evening.  I called Computer Geeks on Sunday morning and they were able to arrange for a service call that afternoon. Mitch the technician, quickly identified the problem and fixed it. While he was here, he took care of several computer maintenance tasks including updating my security software.  The whole experience from start to finish was excellent.

They sent a technician to my house and after talking to me for over a hour AFTER he discovered he could not retrieve the files, he took my thumb drives that I was using for back-up and installed the files from them.... something I could have done two days ago. I was charged for almost two hours @ 125.00p/h. All this for restoring some of my files from my own thumb drives which took all of five minutes. After this terrible fiasco I called their office to report the technician and was told that I could file a complaint. Their web site has no provision for this. Talk about working out of a garage. My advice with Computer Geeks: STAY AWAY!

The gentleman that serviced me, his name was Mitch. I liked it very much. He was very thoughtful trying to explain this Windows 8 and made some shortcuts for me that I was very grateful for. The original price was $125 for the first hour, so it came up to a $160. I guess that is good. The quality of the work was good and they were responsive.

Here's the backstory: My mother's hard drive was sorely infected with viral malware. She called them, and the first tech that came out to her house made it worse. The next tech suggested replacing a faulty hard drive. In all they took the machine, replaced the hard drive with a new one, and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7. Days later they called her to see how things were going. They asked her a lot of technical questions and naturally she wanted nothing more than to get this behind her so she said yes, yes and yes to all the mumbling bullet points they used for follow-up customer service calls. Which mean nothing b/c most normal users haven't a clue when they hear words like and ldquo;deep scan data recoveryand rdquo; or and ldquo;bit-map picture filesand rdquo; anyway. My mother is 77. She emails and looks at pictures of the grandchildren. She has a really sweet Dell Studio 1550 that is just about as good as new. Sure, hard drives break. And you'd expect they'd have installed a fresh copy Windows 7 OS on the new hard drive and restored the data from the old hard drive. A few weeks passed and all seemed well. Then she started calling me in early May about this new "This is not a valid copy of Windows" message suddenly appearing on the display every time she booted. Hmmm... So I decided to pay her a visit this past week (June 21st) and investigate. Not only did the message now morph into a "This is a counterfeit copy of Windows" but I soon discovered that all the personal data she had from before was actually NOT restored to the new OS! Adding fuel to the fire, I recognized right away they didn't even bother to do a proper Windows 7 install because I saw three instances of "Windows.old - xxxx" folders at the root of the C Drive. I know my way around computers owing to 17 years experience as a storage professional. Anyone in the know will tell you, a Windows.old folder indicates that a newer version of Windows has been installed on top of an older one. Which means only one thing: They took an image of the "faulty" hard drive, took it out and replaced it with a new one, 'ghosted' that image onto the new hard drive and installed Windows atop the prior one as the final solution. What a sham! A fraudulent sham... Seriously, these guys bilked my mother out of $300.00 before I had a chance to intervene. And when confronted, they refused to own the problem and blamed my mother for not letting them know about missing data earlier. So let's back up here. I was able to prove they lost her data because the folders that held those pictures were actually on the new system...but all the picture were gone. Their excuse is that unused data will get overwritten if left alone long enough. I laughed. More smoke covering tracks. I wonder how many other older people in NW Washington they've milked $98.00 per with shoddy service. Not to mention, when confronted they had no sense to consider the consumer's POV. Perhaps they did make an error. Nope! Not them. Which led to more condescension, defensiveness and downright belligerence. This post is going to be reprinted on Yelp-DC as well as Craigslist-DC with hopes that enough people will read it or worse, recognize they too were taken to the bank by a shoddy outfit. I am drafting a similar letter to the Better Business Bureau as well as the DC Business Licensing Board. If you have been unfortunate to be fraudelently duped by The Computer Geeks. Do complain. You are not alone. Your voice makes a difference.

I am not a big computer person so this is why I hired them. They set it all up so that I could print and the mission was accomplished. I can print and I am pleased. They were here maybe for 1 1/2 to 2 hours and I think the charge was worth it. I am very satisfied.

Computer crashed. They determined a new hard drive was required which they ordered and I paid. (Cost not included above). After they installed the new hard drive, I discovered there was no sound and no access to A drive. Return visit cost $97, (of above cost) to install sound card and clean A drive.
