Description of Work: The cleaned one fireplace and chimney. We had asked them to clean a second fireplace, which had a flue that was stuck. They unstuck the flue, checked the fireplace, and said it was already clean and did not charge us for that fireplace. We were very impressed with the service. Very professional, and happy to answer questions.

Description of Work: They came to clean the chimney flues and told me that the mortar was deteriorating near the top of the chimney. They did the mortar repairs and replaced flashing that day, and came back later to waterproof the bricks as it had been awhile since that had been done. I was happy to have it done to preserve the old bricks.

Description of Work: The chimney vent/screen blew off during heavy winds. They came on time and proceeded to screw down (it had been glued) and check the chimney while he was up there. Last year I used them for chimney cleaning and they were punctual, SO VERY NEAT and thorough. I will use them again & also refer them .

Estimate and cleaning was done along with a furnace connection to the chimney. About a month later, a team of 3 came over to install the stacks, build a new chimney with brick that replicated the existing brick (they have a large number of composites to choose from). A chimney cap was placed over top of the chimney and the old brick disposed of. The work took almost two days. They worked a full schedule, efficiently, non stop, except for lunch, on two very hot days. Everyone was cordial, worked well together and a were pleasure to be around.

A nightmare. Non-responsive to calls with my compaints. Owner David unavailable. Tried to rip me off for $3000 in unneeded work.
Description of Work: STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE. They were hired to repoint chimney; clean flues; replace crown and cap. After cleaning they told me the chimney clay liner was bad and needed a $3000 flexible steel liner. I had three other contractors inspect the liner incuding video and digital still photos. They all said the clay liner was fine and that the cleaning job was poor---soot just pushed down to the bottom of the flue. The chimney pointing they did was adequate but cosmetically poor. I'm sending them $200 for the repointing and hiring a reputable company to finish the work. Also they didn't have the right size crown or cap on the truck. BEWARE !!!

Response from Northeastern Chimney
Attached is the revised version of the Angie's List rebuttal for your consideration. Call me if you have anymore changes you would like me to add. I also reformatted the document to something that may be able to be opened by any version of Microsoft Word/Works. I will also copy/paste it in the bottom of the email, in case you still cannot open the file. Say hello to Sharon and hug Marissa for me! I hope you're having a great vacation and having this behind you will help you relax! :) - Lauren ---- Rebuttal for Angie's List ---- We have serviced the home of this member since 1998. On May 11th 2010, at the request of the member our company went out to perform an estimate on the exterior masonry of his chimney. We recommended that the chimney be repointed where needed along with the installation of a stainless steel chimney cap. In addition, we recommended the inspection of all chimney flues and clean them if necessary the day we do the repairs. After applying a discount to the cost, the member signed the contract to have the work completed. The work was started on July 6th and during the flue inspection, our CSIA certified chimney technician found that the furnace flue was partially blocked with soot and flakes from the existing clay liner. The flue angled awkwardly and was in poor condition. We could not perform a full cleaning and our technician notified the member of this dilemma. After the member received this information he suddenly told our technicians to stop all the work and come back when they have a camera to show him the flue tile condition. The technicians asked if they could at least finish the outside proposed work and not leave it being half done. The member agreed. When cleaning up, we agreed to return with our chimney camera to provide images of the inner flue tiles. On July 8th the member called our office to state he was unsatisfied with the masonry repairs. Our office manager took down his information and told him that she is certain we will take care of it as soon as possible. She told him she wanted to talk to the technicians and she would also leave a message for the owner. The following week of July 12th the operations manager went out to the customer’s home to inspect the work. Because of the extreme heat that day, there were areas found that required additional attention. The office manager called the member to schedule a date for the service. She offered him some dates in the up-coming days, but they didn’t suit his schedule. She was then told he was going to be away and should follow up with him the first week of August in order to schedule the service. Before we could do so, we received a letter from him on August 2nd . The letter declared that he did not want us to return to finish our repairs. It also stated that he had his relative inspect the chimney and was told by him the liner was in good condition. The member's biggest concern seemed to be the fact he believes we misled him with the recommendation that his chimney should have a new liner. We told him we would like to finish his job free of charge and also bring the camera to show him the condition of the flue tiles. The member said he had other companies out and they agreed the flue was in fine condition. When asked who the companies were and if there technicians were CSIA certified he would give no answer. After numerous attempts to try and let our company come back to show him what we were seeing, the member refused. From the moment the customer was displeased we took immediate action, responding to his calls and concerns. We then assessed the chimney and tried to make the appointment to correct it. Before we could even do so he was writing us a letter. All of our technicians are CSIA certified, having been trained by the Chimney Safety Institute of America. It is our job to report what we see and notify the customer of their chimney’s condition. To the untrained eye or anyone who is not CSIA certified a problem can be easily misdiagnosed. After requested service from a customer it is our job to report what we see whether that may be something positive or negative. It was apparent on that day the member did not like hearing that his chimney flue was in poor condition. After seeing the flue, reporting what we saw and then advising him of the repair, it is always the customer’s prerogative to follow through with the proposal. We do not force anyone to buy products or repair their chimney; we are simply there by request to inform our customer of the findings of our inspection. The member is still welcome to have our company come out to complete the repair and to visually show him our findings of the internal inspection if he chooses to do so. Northeastern Chimney is 100% committed to our customer’s 100% satisfaction. In all fairness to Northeastern Chimney, in this situation, we did everything within our control to achieve the member's satisfaction. It was his choice to pursue other avenues and we are happy to hear his chimney has been repaired.

It went very well. The initial estimator took his time assessing the issue, tested a few things and clearly explained what he felt needed to be done, why and how it would be accomplished.
Description of Work: My chimney was leaking into the attic. They determined that it needed a new cement crown and waterproofing. They arrived as scheduled and completed the work sooner than they estimated. They returned a few months later to apply a second coat of water-proofing and there have been no problems since.

They performed a chimney sweep. They were on time and clean. They do not clean out the ash pit, and I would have liked this done. Also, as of yet, I have not received a diagnosis of the exterior masonry work that is needed. They took photos, and they said they would send us an estimate, but we have received nothing yet.

Called vendor for a chimney repair estimate on 30 year old chimney. Vendor answered call promptly and made appointment to do the estimate. Rescheduled estimate once, but when he showed up gave a thorough inspection. Advised that they could repair chimney, but there was internal damage that would only return unless they did tear-down and rebuild. Showed me damage and why he suggested a rebuild. Gave competitive price for work, but addition of chimney cap was high because it was built by another company. Once notified, they scheduled work for 3 weeks in the future. Arrived promptly on date promised. Said the job was much bigger than estimated, but would do it for the promised price. Discovered additional damage once chimney was torn down, and gave option to add metal lining to forestall future damage. That option added $2000 but I went along with it. Work took 3 days spread out over two weeks. Completed work looked very professional and they cleaned up thoroughly before they left.

My initial phone call for an estimate was answered promptly by a person, something rare these days. The pieces of the estimate were clearly explained and slightly lower than a prior estimate that I'd received. The initial date for repair had to be changed, but the phone call from them came 2 weeks before the scheduled date. The work crew showed up on time both days. They cleaned up the site the first night so no tools, etc. were left around. They were efficient and professional and completed the job in 2 days as quoted. They cleaned up at the end and even raked the mulch back in the part of the yard where they had erected scaffolding. They took a lot of care not to damage any plants and to pick up all of their materials. The chimneys look great. There was no leak from the problem chimney during a severe rainstorm the night after the repair! I'm quite satisfied with the job that they did.
Description of Work: One chimney was damaged just below the soldier course and needed to be taken down to that point and rebuilt. A second chimney had a cracked crown that caused periodic water leaks. Both had slate caps that had been improperly installed and needed to be replaced.
