We went ahead with this and did a general service with an appointment a day or two later. It worked out great and the car runs great now. I was very pleased with the bill considering it could have been much more serious and he could have charged me for much more for taking a look at the transmission.
The shop is in a bit of an odd spot in town, but overall its not too bad of a neighborhood. The service was done in one day, but I had to leave my car overnight before I could pick it up (early pickup/drop-off around 7:30AM) and he made sure to lock it inside the shop.
