I purchased the awning because my husband has cancer and cannot sit in the sun, he loves to sit on out de ck with our dog but normal umbrellas you have to keep moving because the sun moves but not with this awning its great and he can sit outside and relax and enjoy the fresh cool air. The awning will decrease theheat of the sun 10-15 degrees when open and covering all the deck. We loce it and wish we had gotten one a long time ago.

Fast, courteous and convenient service and a commitment to the customer.....this is what the Awning Place says in part about their company. Unfortunately, this was not my experience in dealing with the them. It's is too bad because they do have a good product, but their customer service was certainly lacking in my case. My original Awning was purchased in 2003 and I was very happy with the awning and the service. I don't know what happened since then with their treatment of customers. I called to have someone come out to give an estimate to repair or replace fabric. Scott came out on Sept 6th and said they would get back to me with an estimate. Two weeks later I still had not heard back and had to call the office to see what was going on. I was told by the woman in the office that Scott was - to quote her "a very busy man." and she wasn't sure what happened. I got a call back and was told the fabric I had chosen was no longer available. Scott came out again on Sept 22nd to show me different samples of fabric. I picked two samples and Scott was to get back to me on availability. I called the office later in the day and spoke to Bob's son to ask him to let Scott know that I made a decision on one of the samples and to please have Scott get back to me to confirm. Never heard back from anyone. On Oct 6th I had to call again and Bob told me that the awning fabric had been ordered (apparently my message about my choice was conveyed ......but no one got back to me to confirm!) I also told Bob that I never received a contract to check over the order and he said I should have received it and he would send it out. I received the contract on Oct 12th and parts of it were unreadable as to pattern and color. The very same day (Oct 12th) Bob left a message on my phone at 4:50 pm to say that someone would be out the next day to install the awning. Since I was not home at the time he called - I didn't have the chance to tell him I wouldn't be home the next day. I called him in the morning to inform him that I wouldn't be home and that I wasn't very happy about how his company communicated with their customers and the response I got was "YOU ARE JUST REHASHING EVERYTHING YOU ALREADY TOLD ME!" Really, is this the way to treat your customers? You go ahead and order fabric without the customer able to check over the order -- you set up an appointment without getting a confirmation as to whether it is convenient to the customer. Needless to say, I told Bob to cancel everything -- I will be looking for another awning company that puts their customers first.
Response from The Awning Place, Inc.

"First I would like to say that I had not responded to this review until now, due too the fact that we had sent two letters to this customer in an attempt to resolve this issue. - no response. In response to this review, it should be noted that there are some important omissions which change the dynamic of this completely, which are... After this customers initial meeting with Scott, a contract was mailed to her home. On our end, we waited to hear back from her, either verbally or with a signed contract before placing the order. Eventually she did call, and after discussing it, being a previous customer, we placed the order without a signed contract. Shortly after we were informed by the manufacturer that the chosen fabric was in fact discontinued. We checked with suppliers in the US, Canada and Mexico trying to find enough material in that choice to complete her order - It took almost a week and sadly, there was none to be found. Searching stock with manufacturers we found two that were similar and informed the customer with our apologies of the discontinuation, set up a time to have Scott meet with her again to make a choice. After meeting with Scott, who assured her that both samples were in stock, she then called and spoke with me, Adam "owners son" - and I assured her that the fabric was in stock and that I would let Bob, the owner know immediately of her choice and if there were any questions or issues that he would give her a call. Not five minutes passed, while I was in Bob's office giving him the details of her order, she called again to confirm her choice with Bob. The conclusion of that call, which I was present for, was that she would get a cover at a reduced price and that the order would go in immediately. The next phone call was to the manufacturer placing the order. Being custom-made, a typical order takes 2-4 weeks from order to install. After 6 days, she called again asking why we have not confirmed her order and to state that we had not sent her a contract. We informed her that her order had already gone through, was being made and that we would be making a special trip to the factory to pick it up next week. We also mailed her a new contract, even though a verbal approval had been given on 4 occasions. Once her completed order was picked up, Bob called and left a message that we would be installing it the next day. She then called back, spoke with Bob, insisting that she be home for the install and that the next day does not work... he accommodated and asked when she was available next week... in short that call ended with her cancelling the order citing our lack of communication and the fact that she never signed a contract. In summary... We made two trips to her home, lowered the price and then gave her a discount on top of that, ordered the fabric, made a special two hour one way trip to the factory in NY to pick up her finished paid in full cover, that she agreed to through several phone calls"

They are neat, quick and professional. Arrived on time. New awning cover somewhat pricey, but the quality of awning is what I was looking for. If you own a Sunsetter Awning, and need a replacement, this is the company to call.

Fabric Awning or Patio Cover Service
We purchased the original awning from them and when the time came to replace the canvas we called them again, as stated by others, it was pricey but we had it done, after a few months we started getting birds nesting under the awning and after trying all types of fixes we called them to come out and see if there was anything they could do to lessen the problem. They said there was a service charge of $87.50, which I thought was high but agreed too. Two workers that were already in Manchester came about 2 hours later and looked at the awning and said there was nothing that could be done since everything was working properly. They suggested I have the Fringe replaced with a longer one so that it could be looped under the awning and seal it off from the birds. That seemed to be a good idea so I asked them to contact their supervisor and ask what it would cost. I didn't hear back from the company for a few days and called them and spoke to Bob and he said he didn't think it would work, but would stop by and take a look once the snow we had that day melted. I waited another week and called again since it was a beautiful warm day. I set up an appointment for the following Wednesday. Wednesday came and went with no one showing up and no call as to why. On Thursday I called again and was told Bob had the Flu and would stop out the following Monday or Tuesday. Monday and Tuesday both came with no one showing up again and this time I waited until FRIDAY to call and see what was going on. The girl at the desk said he probably forgot so I asked her to have him call me back. I never heard from him at all but a BILL FOR $ 93 + came in today a MONTH after the original visit and there was never anything done to begin with, other then the 2 guys that were already in Manchester stopping in to look at it. In my opinion, their Customer Service and front desk leave a lot to be desired if it's not a BIG $$ project you need done. I will not use this company again and if asked I will tell them about the lack of communication. I will pay the bill even though there was really nothing done to justify it.
Response from The Awning Place, Inc.

"After doing some digging, reading the notes, call logs and speaking with all involved, here is what actually happened... On February 8th of this year (2017) we received a call from this customer, requesting that we change the upper limits of his motorized patio awning to try to eliminate birds perching on his fabric. Since his original awning was purchased in 2004 (past the warranty date), he was informed that a service call is $112.50 plus CT sales tax. Being a previous customer and having purchased a recover two years prior, we reduced his service charge to $87.50 and provided service the same day. Two installers came, looked over his awning, adjusted the motor limits per his requirements and noted that the awning was in good working condition. That's what they were sent there to do & that is what he was charged for. On a separate note, while the installers where there, he explained that birds were living in a "hole" in the side of his neighbors house and were constantly perching on the arms of his awning and leaving "droppings" on his awning and deck. He discussed with the installers a possible solution of fabricating a cover to keep the birds out. After discussing this solution with the installers, the owner concluded that for various reasons, this proposed fix would not alleviate the issue at hand. The customer did call two more times, and on the second call, spoke with Bob (the owner) and was informed that the above solution would not work and there really isn't much you can do. Not satisfied with that answer, he wanted the owner to "stop by" and look at his awning... there was never an appointment made. He then called two more times, once he was informed that the owner had the flu and would be getting back to him next week... the second time, he informed us that he was going with another company but to have the owner call him back to discuss it. The issue was already discussed, at length and had nothing to do with the awning or the service he was provided. The guys came to fix an issue he had with his awning's motor limits and he was discounted for that service charge. The obvious solution is to work with his neighbor to close the hole where the birds are nesting. While we sympathize with this customers situation, we cannot control nature and the habits of birds and we will not fabricate a product and charge the customer for something we are certain will not solve the problem."

Although it was a pricey project, we are very happy with the outcome. The owners of the company, Bob and Doris, are very professional as are their employees. The men who did the installation were polite and efficient. After the first rain on the awning, we were concerned because the seems seemed to leak but I was assured that that would be rectified after one or two rains allowing the thread to expand. I was told that the problem would be taken care of if that was not the case. What a difference the awning makes in regards to our being able to use our deck on the south side of the house. It also defines the space and give us an additional living space during the summer season. Because it comes off our sun porch, it serves to keep that cooler also. We are very happy with the results.

We have ordered an awning to be installed in the spring. We found the company to be very professional. We decided to purchase even though the cost of the new awning is quite pricey. It is difficult to rate the quality until installed.

Within two hours of my request, Bob was out here measuring. Once awnings were made, installation took about two hours. They also hung up an awning I already owned for me in about an hour. All in all great service. Installers were very professional. Definitely will do business with them again.

I needed a simple repair to my awning at my home after Storm Alfred! Bob, the owner of the company came out to my house and recommended a new awning bar. The bar was measured and cut the same day he came out for an inspection. I was able to pick up the awning bar in his showroom and my repair is now complete!! Thank You!
