Our furnace went out. Applewood tech who came to our home said our furnace is 18yrs old, and only has about 2 years left. Problem was circuit board, which could make it last another year, and also the ignitor was bad. Quote for new board: $984. Quote for ignitor: $343. Also quoted us three new furnaces, ranging from $8500-$12k, plus electrical which would be another $1k. We were shocked. He said he could get started on installing a new furnace immediately. We put the brakes on. Called our very trusted handyman, who replaced the circuit board AND ignitor for $180!!! (parts cost). I felt completely ripped off, even though I hadn't purchased from Applewood. We had a second quote today, from Cooper--via Costco. The tech said we probably had a good 3-4 years life in the existing furnace! Had him quote me and their pricing is LEAGUES better than Applewood's. Check around before you buy! Wow. Huge differences out there!

They were not able to fix the problem. It was a sham. He said we needed a whole new toilet and quoted a $1000 for it, when we didn't need it. He just looked at it and didn't do any work.

This company provided an estimate to install a new gas-line and valve w/ flex line for a gas range in our kitchen w/o even bothering to look at the existing plumbing (gas lines) installed, even though there were (3) abandon and valved-off lines running in the floor joists directly below the range. They wouldn't consider doing anything other than starting back at the outside meter, on the far side of the garage, 30ft away. The company I hired to perform the work did so for around 10% of the quote I got from Applewood.

I had an Angie's list coupon for a toilet tune up, they did a great job with that. The representative that came to the house was very respectful and he even took time out to explain things. I had some other work I was getting an estimate on as well but their prices were a little too high for me.

Applewood was prompt and had excellent communication regarding their appointment with me, including emailing me a picture of the representative who would be coming to give the estimate. However, their estimate was more than 2 times as much as two other companies and they charged a $29 fee for their visit. I did, however, learn much about my water line and other pluming issues in my house for future consideration. Their rep was very knowledgable and very easy to talk with. They seemed extremely professional and would have provided a lifetime warranty on their work, but I could not justify paying that much for peace of mind.

I was very pleased with this visit. Applewood can sometimes be a bit expensive but for service like this - I don't mind and will use them again.
Description of Work: I had a great experience with Applewood. I think that the gentleman's name was Josh who came to my home. I had just purchased a home with a reverse osmosis water filter and a water softner. Josh not only "tuned up" my powder room toilet - and got it to stop running, he also showed me how to change the filters on the RO system and explained how to start and use the water softner. He also helped me understand my water heater! This education was invaluable! And he wouldn't take a dime since I had prepaid through Angie's List! All of this for $30!! And he was pleasant and courteous.

They were OK. It was a long time ago though. They came promptly and the guy was courteous. They did their work. They came when they said they would and did the work they said they would and charged what they said they would.
Description of Work: I used Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric for a house I was remodeling with my daughter. They just came and inspected the furnace. It was a really old furnace and they inspected it to make sure it wasn't leaking carbon dioxide and stuff like that.

The guy showed up on time and was pleasant enough. The job was well done. My only issue was the charge. If you don't mind paying a lot for the same service you can get for less, then go for it. Again, the work was fine and well done.
Description of Work: The workman charged me $269 to replace a kitchen faucet. I was in a bind so agreed. Later with research found that I was charged way too much. The work was fine but I believe they charge too much. Do your research. My new plumber is Zane Milalko plumbing. Great group.

My experience was excellent. They call before they show up and they call when they leave to see if everything was okay. We know the names of the people that are coming. They are just professionals and I feel much more secure with them than with a lot of other employee people that come into our house. They are coming in again today.

Another sucker ripped off by Applewood- Furnace was blowing cold air the day before temperatures expected in low teens. I called my previous HVAC company and they were booked so I called Applewood. They promptly sent a technician out who checked and stated the heat exchanger was cracked and the furnace was unsafe to operate and needed to be replaced. He shined a flashlight in a front panel and said "See that crack?" I didn't, but Applewood had been highly recommended to me by a coworker, so I figured he knew what he was doing. When asked he stated that just replacing the heat exchanger would be almost the cost of replacing the furnace. Furnace was installed the next day. When the Denver HVAC inspector came out to inspect the work we were chatting and I mentioned how I was shown The "cracked" heat exchanger. He stated that there was no way to see a crack that way and asked me what I was charged. When told, he stated I was "grossly overcharged" and that they could have replaced the part for much less. He failed the first inspection because they had left the condensate drain tapped into main drain line (against Code). He told me that Applewood would try to charge me extra for plugging the hole in drain line (which they did) and to tell them that the inspector said he would be inspecting that too when he returned. I told the technician, he said he had to call someone, and he then put in the plug free of charge. On Christmas day the furnace stopped working. I called and they sent a technician out within a few hours and he fixed what he said was a leak in the line inside the furnace. I missed Christmas dinner waiting in a cold house for the repair, but at least they were able to come out. All the repair and install people with the exception of the first guy who told me I needed the furnace replaced and inflated the price were prompt and polite. I did get a "Gold Club" membership too. I will never use Applewood again. Do not use this company ever!

I was sick when he left, $750 was way more then I could afford, so I had to charge this on my credit card. Then I started going on line to research the cost of the disposal and the hourly rates for plumbers. My same disposal online cost with shipping $ 105.00, according to the Company with the parts and service guarantee they have to charge $300.00, for 10 years, when the manufacturer can only guarantee for 3 years, and the labor is approx. $150.00 an hour, their charges $450.00 per hour. I contacted the company and they said they could take off $150 off the top, with out having the owner get involved. If they can do this then why would they overcharge that much in the first place. Then they said that the owner would call me back, I said it needs to be with 3 business days because if I want them to come back and take out their disposal i could only change my mind within 3 days. They either wrote down my number wrong, I repeated it to them 3 times and she said she got it right, but no call from the owner, so I had to call them back 2 times, did not want to be a bother but $751 was on the line. The owners agreed to take off $244.00 off of the $750.00 bill. I still paid $506.00 to have my garbage disposal replaced. Home depot said they could have walked me through the process for free that it does not take a plummer to do this. Very expensive lesson. Will not recommend this company to anyone, for anything. Do your homework first so that you can negotiate up front if you choose to do business with this company. Before my husband got sick, he installed our 1st disposal for about $250.00 and that lasted us 15 years.
Description of Work: We were at their mercy to have a garbage disposal replaced, ours was leaking. We thought that maybe just a few screws needed to be tightened. Not the whole unit needing replaced. The tech gave us an estimate up front, but because we did not do our homework and checked the prices on labor and garbage disposals (shame on us),I did not know what the going rate was on replacing a garbage disposal or what the rate for plumbers were. I did question the amount of $750.00, I said what if we bought one from Home Depot or Lowe's would we be able to save money and pay less. He stated that if would be about $300.00 and that we would still need to have the garbage disposal installed and that would cost $450.00. It only took from the time the tech went to his truck and get all of the tools and new garbage disposal and replaced some of the piping under our kitchen sink 45 minutes total and the total bill was $750.00.

The serviceman came within 4 hours of me calling to inspect it. They had to get a part, and came back the next day to install it. The next day, my serviceman got held up on a job and couldn't come during the 2 hour time window he gave me, and had the company call to see if I could wait or not. I had a Dr. appt so I could not wait. They were supposed to send someone else out, but they never showed. When I called back, they apologized and sent out a different serviceman completely. He was able to come and fix the water heater quickly and well. They always answered the phone and were very polite. They were the only company that only charged $29 to come out, and they did not re-charge me that fee when they came back the 2nd day. Other companies were charging aroun $100 just to come and look at the problem before fixing it, and most were unable to come until the next day. Seeing as I have a young child, and snow was on the way, hot water was a necessity. The part might have been more expensive than with competitors (it was obscure, home depot didn't even carry it), but I think it washes out in the end with the benefits of a lower service fee and quicker and more responsive service. I was most upset that the reschedule made me miss my Dr. appt, but very happy that my water heater is working.
Description of Work: They came to fix my water heater pilot light that would not stay lit. It turned out that the pilot light assembly on my very odd water heater (thank you builder who has put in cheap stuff all over my place) was broken. So they replaced it.

They were very responsive to my call and made the appointment. The person who came out was extremely courteous and helpful. He explained everything he did. He did a good job and cleaned up after himself. He also explained some other things about the hot water tank that we might want to know. And I also asked him about a future plumbing issue that I had and he explained how that would work. I have not followed up yet, but I will. Everything was excellent.

I was very impressed with Applewood. From the moment I scheduled the service on Angies List, they were calling me within minutes. They called to confirm the appointments and called minutes after the technicians left to make sure everything was okay. I would recommend Applewood for all their services. It's nice to see a company take a real interest in their customers and not try and talk them into things they don't need. I also like the way they price a job. I've had other companies price by the hour and they would sit there right in front of me and milk the clock and my pocketbook.
Description of Work: I had a problem with my back yard light and we wanted and estimate for putting a light over the garage, plus we took advantage of an "Angies List" deal for having our water heater serviced. We were very impressed with both Technicians. Daniel was the electrician that came by first. He immediately saw the problem, fortunately we did have a new light fixture to install. Upon looking in the garage he noticed other issues that we were not aware of and he gave us options on how to fix the problem plus he quoted us for everything. There was no hard selling or inventing issues to make more money, These were legitimate issues. He explained everything thoroughly. He was very professional and friendly....and a pet lover. William, the plumber came by a little later and again very professional and friendly....and a pet lover. He got down in our icky crawl space and serviced our water heater. We have no idea about water heaters or things like that and he explained everything about the water heater and about expansion and rust but said our water heater is in excellent condition, he also informed us of an angle issue with the sump pump pipe. Again, no hard selling, lots of good information and very professional. They both wore there booties!!! And were on time, in fact, Dan was a little earlier and they called to see if he could come early. We did have a little sticker shock with the prices but the customer service is excellent. I also like the fact they call and send an email with the picture of the technician and the creditials so you know who your letting in your home.

Furnace is about 20 years old. The furnace stopped heating. Applewood came out and gave us an estimate of about $10,000 to replace the furnace with the 90% efficeint. We didn't have to replace the furnace immediately, so we could call around for other estimates. Found a better furnace at a better price.
