They make up prices. They're late when they show up to your house and they had a guy with them who was rude. Then they sent me another guy who was nicer and apologized for the first guy. At that point, I was over-charged to the tune of like $500 or $600 and I had to fight on the phone to get my money back. They were late every single time.

A company representative phoned us the following day after submitting a request for a consultation. After a few questions an appointment was scheduled for the following Saturday (10/5). In less than 10 minutes the phone rang with the rep asking to change the appointment due to possible weather issues and travel dangers which is completely understandable. A new appointment was scheduled the next week on Wednesday in the early evening (10/9). The day before the appointment a call was received to confirm the appointment. 4 hours before the appointment a call was received to cancel due to scheduling issues and they would not be able to arrive at a reasonable time. We again rescheduled for the next Saturday afternoon (10/12). Once again a confirmation call came the day before. The day of the appointment a rep called to confirm we would be home and said they were going to dispatch a tech to our home. The rep said they would also call if the tech was going to be late. After 30 minutes past the scheduled time, I called the office to see where the person was. They gave me several excuses including the fact that the trucks that are driven are large and heavy with equipment and go slower than a normal vehicle. My thought was that when the truck was "dispatched" they had 2 hours to arrive on time. Normally the trip would take about one and a half hours in a car. The tech finally arrived about one hour late. His "large" truck turned out to be a van that really couldn't hold that much heavy equipment in my opinion. After greeting the tech and inviting him in (I don't recall any apology for his tardiness) we offered a beverage. He turned down the offer saying he was ok since he stopped at the gas station in town to fill up with fuel and pick up some snacks and something to drink before he came to the house. Mind you, he was already late. The consultation went pretty well for the most part. They seemed to have plenty of knowledge and ideas of where vents and returns should be placed, the size of system that would be needed, and where is could be placed. He told us about his equipment and kind of ran down some of the competitors which I personally don't think is appropriate, but that's me. He then wrote down some visual diagrams of the basic layout and said he would give it to the boss to create an estimate which we would receive the following Monday (10/14) via e-mail. After calling the tech a few days later (10/16) we finally received a written quote on Saturday (10/16) with a total cost that was about $6,000 more than the ballpark figure the tech had mentioned. There was also no options to choose from. It was more like here is the system cost and that's it. I then replied to the e-mail asking for another quote with a breakdown of all costs such as equipment, ducting, electrical, etc. so I could see what we would be paying for.. We never heard from them again. We did have another company lined up for a quote as well and theirs was more or less the same as what the tech had verbally estimated. I can't help but wonder if they just overpriced it so we would go somewhere else due to the fact we do live in rural Colorado and it's not a short trip. If that's the case I would rather they say that then give us a run around. This of course is purely speculation but we've been turned down for that reason before. We did get a new system installed by the second bidder and couldn't be more pleased. They are a local company and urge you check my review of them.
Description of Work: We had asked for a quote on a complete HVAC system through the Home Depot website. This was the company that responded. We scheduled an appointment for a free, in home consultation which was done.

They worked quickly but the whole thing created a big mess...which wasn't their fault.
Description of Work: Started by digging up rotted cast iron sewer pipe in effort to connect to good pipe. But quickly discovered that the whole network of pipe was rotten and needed to be replaced from back of house (under basement concrete floor) through house and out into street to be reconnected to main sewer line.

ARS sent Mike who was fabulous and got us up and running. Later I hired ARS for the furnace and made sure that was good to go when the weather turned colder. Last we had a water softner installed by ARS and I could not be happier with the quality or the service. They gave me a discount and I felt the price was in line with other quotes I had received. Today they are doing the garbage disposal. They have different people for different aspects of the job and today Jeff who is just wonderful will be doing the plumbing aspect with the disposal.

Ran snake and pulled out roots. Price to do this was reasonable, but the rest of the story is where things get interesting. My drain backed up one week later and they came out next day because they were to busy that night. Not a problem. They came out next day and running water would not back up so I agreed to a free camera inspection. Within a couple days the camera inspection was done and there were many places where there was root intrusion where clay pipe joints are joined together. All of this is not ARS's wrong doing. Where I do have a MAJOR PROBLEM is that the technician that ran the camera quoted me just under $10,000 to install the pipe liner which lines your existing pipe with a new surface. Upon getting another quote from another pipeline repair company that only does pipe repair, I was informed that I was not a candidate for this type of repair because I had low spots ( belly's) which made the liner procedure out of the question. (Pipe bursting was also not an option because of the low spots. The pipe needs to be dug up and replaced to be repaired correctly. I was quoted less than HALF the liner price and done in one day. ARS WAS GOING TO CHARGE ME $10,000 to preform a fix that would NOT have been appropriate. I think they are making a killing on this procedure and would sell it to any unsuspecting person who does not know to get many quotes before spending this kind of Money. BUYER BEWARE. SHAME ON THEM

This was an UNBELIEVABLY bad experience. If I could tell the entire city to NEVER use these guys, it wouldn't be enough. It all started with a backed up floor drain in the basement. We called ARS as they advertise all over the place and I recognized the name Rescue Rooter. The guy came out and snaked the pipe only to have it back up again while he was there. The charge for this was $195. He said he needed to come back the next day with a camera to see what is going on inside the pipe. Fine. He came back and with the camera he said that the 12 foot (of the total 25 foot section) area needed to be replaced. He quoted $1800 for the job but would credit the now $290 back to me if I go with them. Fine again. I stressed to him that I was concerned that the concrete work needed to be uniform and he assured me it would be great. Long story short, after they jackhammered up and saw cut (not wet saw mind you...ie a TON of dust all over our house) the area, they replaced the pipe. I was told they would be in and out in one day. It was now 8:00pm and the guy said he needed a break. I told him to come back the next day. He did. And did an awful job with the cement work. Awful enough that I called the GM and complained. He almost laughed at me and said he'd give me a $50 coupon (gee thanks). I told him that they needed to fix it. The guys came back out (2 weeks later) and said if I REALLY want it fixed, they'd have to charge me more for their concrete contractor or they could "try again". I told him to try again as I wasn't about to pay any more to these jokers. He came back the next day, completed the work (better but definitely not perfect). All along I figured this would solve the issue. Well, needless to say, a week later the DRAIN BACKED UP AGAIN. I called and complained that after ALL THAT it was no better than when I started a month before. The same guy came back out (they have a policy that if someone screws up, they spend their own time correcting it). He said that the other 13 foot section would now need to be replaced. WHY DID I NOT KNOW THIS FROM DAY ONE? The cost? $2100 more. Thanks but no thanks. Never did I get an apology or a significant discount for my troubles. Not an Angie List member, not a BBB member...no wonder...they'd be out of business! DO NOT HIRE THEM!
Description of Work: I had a kitchen line needing to be replaced. I needed them to jackhammer up the existing foundation (about 12 feet worth), replace the pipe, and then cement over the area again.

When I received a phone call about what I thought of their services I told them. Soon thereafter I did receive a phone call from one of the managers and he refunded the trip fee and the cost of repairs from 5d and also the costs of a repair they did less than a year ago that did not work. He was very apologetic but what I told him was that there is no way to put the toothpaste back into the tube. This entire experience was unconscionable .
Description of Work: We asked them to check our air conditioning . When the repairman arrived he informed me that to fix my air conditioner it would cost $5300 but he would recommend a new furnace and air conditioner. The cost of the new system would be $15-20,000. I decided to call 5 D air conditioning and heating and they fixed it for $240.00. I would never use Ars again . I have had 3 technicians from Ars and all of them have pushed a new system and lied to me as to Whatnot we needed. A total scam.

He came out, he was really nice and he did my home first then we went over to one of my rental. I really liked him. He was real honest. He went through what was going on. He didn't try to sell me anything. I just had a really good feeling about him. The name of the person that came to do the service was Keith. He came and tuned up, cleaned and oiled our air conditioner. From a job we have had done before when we had a water heater put in over there, they had to have electricians come out there because they did change it from gas to electric and he did everything in the air conditioner and he went down and they have to do something to the furnace before they do the air conditioners. There was some ducts that the electricians didn't put back up there and he took the time to do it and he didn't charge me or anything for it. He had to repair some of the electrician's work. This guy was great and when he left, I didn't have to pay him anything. He just came and did his job. He was a nice man and I was really impressed. I would hire them again. Their people are great and they seem to be really honest. He didn't have to fix that ducting, he could have made the electricians come back and do it but he did it for me. He didn't try to up-sell me anything.

What a ripp off. They give you good pricing on sewer cleaning (basic service) hoping to get stuck and then sell you the excavation rediciously overpriced. (taking advantage of your situation if you can't use the bathroom in your house) My advice: STAY AWAY!!!!!. You are better off paying one of the smaller outfits $150 to do the job right.
Description of Work: I called them to clean out my sewer that was clogged. The guy tried for about an hour and could not get past the clogg. So he located the clogg and proceeded to give me an estimate for a spot repair that would have been $9800 (yes your are reading this right almost 10K to digg a hole and repair some pipe). Needless to say I sent him on his way and called another sewer company to try again. They used 4 different sets of blades on the routing snake and made it through. I also proceeded to get some estimates on a new sewer tap (which is a lot more work than the "spot repair" and requires right of way permits and city inspections too). And guess what? The estimates for a new tap were in the $4500 range.

Today we had to call them for a furnace emergency. The problem turned out to be with our electrical system and not the furnace itself. They performed a yearly furnace cleaning and recommended an electrician (Elsco Electrical) that was able to respond to our issue the same day. ARS came out right away when they realized the furnace was not working and were concerned enough about the incoming cold weather that they called us back later in the day to insure that we were able to get an electrician out to our house to get it fixed.
Description of Work: We have used ARS many times since we purchased our home 20 years ago and they are alway curteous, prompt, competitve, and straightforward. We do not feel we have every gotten the run around from them, and they have recommended other service providers that have also been of high quality when they are unable to perform the necessary repairs. We have used thier services for minor issues such as furnace cleaning and drain rootering as well as major repairs such as furnace replacement and sewer line replacement. We will absolutely use them again.

I had work done previously by ARS in my home and called 3 days in advance to schedule a main line cleaning. I work 2 jobs and my schedule is tight which is why I called in advance. I scheduled an appointment for Saturday between 8:00am and 10:00am and at the time explained to the appointment setter that I worked that morning and would appreciate as close to 8:00am as possible, but understood the window. On Saturday morning I received a call stating that they had overbooked and wouldn't be able to get out here until the afternoon. As I would be working at that time I rescheduled for today, Monday, the 11th between 10:00am and 12:00n. They still were not here by 12:05pm. At this point, I called and cancelled as I needed a company I could rely on to be here to complete the services. It was frustrating as the original appointment was scheduled in advance, they had overbooked and even though I rescheduled again, 2 days in advance of new appointment, they were still unable to be here on time. I have re-booked with another company that was listed here.
Description of Work: No services performed as company did not show up for scheduled appointments.

Matt was professional and courteous and did not try to sell me anything I did not need. He told me what he found and what he was going to do to service my furnace. I did renew my 2013 service contract at this time, otherwise I would have paid nothing.
Description of Work: Furnace/ humidifier inspection, routine service as per contract.

Heat went out on New Year's Eve! ARS waived the $50.00 fee because of an online coupon. Did not pay a cent until Keith finished the next day. Keith was very professional and punctual. He left me with a portable heater to make it through the night and then spend most of New Year's day fixing the heater. Did not have heat until 4:30 pm but that was because the first motor did not work! Thank good for people like Keith or else my pipes might have been the next problem.
Description of Work: Blower on furnace went out Keith came at 10:30 on New Year's Eve and then again at 8:45 am on New Year's Day to replace the motor. First motor did not work so he asked for an emergency opening of the shop where he could get another blower. Replace the blower again and finished around 4:30 pm that day.

The technicians were extremely professional.
Description of Work: ARS tried to clear the sewer line but were unable to do so. More extensive work was required. The technician (Davey) used a camera to scope the pipes. He determined because they could not clear the line there was no charge. He provided an estimate to repair the main sewer line.

I Called ARS Rescue Rooter for a drain line backing up on 10/08/2012 around 4:30pm was told they would be out that night between 5-7 pm at 7:00 pm they called and said they had other emergencies and could not make it out until next morning I was very upset because I had cancelled another company because of their promise to come that night and I could not use any water in my house until drain was cleaned out I asked for a manager to contact me as to why they did not keep their promise to come? no one ever called. I could not get another plumber that night so I scheduled ARS Rescue Rooter to come out in the morning. When the tech finally showed up they were more concerned about the age of the house than my sewer problem the Tech. said he did not want to run the snake to clean out until he ran a camera to see the condition of the drain line said he was afraid the snake could break through the drain and get stuck if drain was damaged I watched as he ran the camera and the drain opened up after he was in about 15 feet. He wanted to run the camera the entire length to inspect the line all the way to the end. It did not look too bad until about 60 feet and we saw some tree roots and a blockage of approximately ½ the drain, he told me it had to be dug up and replaced since the tree roots had damaged the line he gave me two options. First repair the damaged area for approx. $4200.00 or they could run a liner inside my drain line and that would prevent any problems in the future this option was around $5200.00 and since I still could not use my water in the house I had to make a decision right then. I decided the extra $1000.00 was the better option since I plan on being in my house for a long time. The next morning ARS Rescue Rooter was here first thing with a large back hoe and started the repairs I was watching them to monitor the quality of the service and when they brought up the damaged main line I was very surprised to see it was in excellent condition for 30 years old. The outside of the pipe looked like new I asked the guys where the roots had entered the pipe and they said it was around a fitting that must have been leaking a little. After seeing the condition of my main drain I think they could have snaked the line to remove the roots and I would have been ok for a while until some roots came back. The main line was not damaged or broken until ARS Rescue Rooter hit it with their back hoe during the work. I was promised a DVD of my entire line after completion of their work, None was provided They left a mess in my house after they blew air down the line during the repairs and the water in the basement floor and shower drains blew all over, I did not see this until they had already left. I got a call a few days later from someone that wanted to know if I was satisfied with the work done by ARS Rescue Rooter and I told them not at all and I would like a manager to call me to respond to my concerns no one called I guess they don?t care about their service after the payment has cleared. I do not have a chance to undo what has happened to me but I will never have major work done without getting multiple bids and opinions of what needs to be done, And I will never use this company again.

What a nightmare - never again. have used ARS in the past every other year to clean main line as preventative maintenance with a large maple tree in the yard. Jeff arrived with a trainee, and immediately started high pressure to buy the Maintenance Plan. Had to tell him several times I was not interested - he wouldn't stop - after the 6th time I was ready to scream. Did not appreciate his poor treatment of his trainee as well. He continued to try to sell me other services that I was not interested in. Wrote up additional items to sell me that were ridiculous - $196 to replace a $5 flapper in a toilet - he must be kidding. I had explained that 5 months ago I had all of my plumbing check - yet he insisted on taking up more of my time with his "free estimate" that I didn't want. After 2 hours of berating me - I couldn't wait to get him out of my home. Afterwards I received a phone call telling me that I had also paid to have a camera through my line and ARS wanted to schedule another appointment- Jeff never mentioned this while he was here. This high pressure sales, treating me like I am an idiot - there is no way I will ever let this company back in my home.

I waited to write this review. I did not want to over react, but I feel all who are considering this company for work or a new system through Home Depot should be aware of my experiences. I bought my home in 1999. I spent $11,000 to replace builder garbage for a high efficiency system. ARS installed my new system in 2005 through Home Depot Home Services. I was happy. I bought a Trane 14 seer AC unit for 2000 square feet, an air purification system, and humidifier. I also purchased a Trane multi-speed furnace. I had ARS do routine service through a contact in 2007, 2010 and now in 2012. I moved to TX in 2006 and kept my home here. I left my house for 5 years with the furnace running at 55 degrees. I flew back to have my system checked in 2007. Before I left, I wrapped my copper pipe in the crawl space myself with insulating products hoping my water pipes would not break, but I turned the main water off to the house as a precaution. I used my A /C two out of those seven years. I paid 169.00 for the service contact. In past years, the ARS technician came out and inspected everything, all filters and replaced the humidification filter which is in the crawl space. In 2010 the tech told me that some techs will not go into crawl spaces anymore. When I renewed my contract this year, I asked if going into the crawl was a problem and they told me no. This time, ARS canceled twice on me. The first time it was day before they were scheduled to come out. The second time was within the hour of the appointment. I work from home. But, If I did not, canceling twice would have been inconvenient. The tech this time did not take the filters out of any unit, nor did he go down to the crawl space and look at my humidifier / filter. He was quick to tell me a capacitor was leaking due to the high heat and it could use a recharge. He also told me It would run better. My system was working and does not run any differently than it did before. My AC unit sits on the North side of the townhouse. It sits mostly in the shade all day. I just feel I was ripped off for a needless repair, but I am not an expert. Including the service contract and repair I paid $665. Do I feel value from this? The answer is no. Even though ARS installed my system and based my last experience with them, I will be seeking another company to service my system. UPDATED JULY 30, 2012: Scott the Operations Manager for ARS contacted me in regard to my review. He expressed to me he takes reviews and issues very seriously and offered a technician to check filters and address my concerns free of charge. Stating he supervised my install 2005, he valued my relationship with ARS and wanted to know candidly what happened on 7/6/2012. I reiterated what transpired and conveyed my feelings about my last experience to him and I value relationships with companies I can trust rather than just price. I can't prove the repair did or did not need to be performed. Scott offered me a full refund. I said it was not necessary. He said he was going to refund it anyway. Scott wants a chance to earn my business back. I said I would give them the opportunity when I renew my service contract in 2013. His sincerity and demeanor on the phone was the deciding factor for me to give ARS my next service contract.

I would not hire this company. My personal experience has been that if a company needs to run down its competition, it has no pride in itself or its products.
Description of Work: We are replacing the big three (furnace, A/C, water heater). ARS was the subcontractor that Home Depot sent out. I called HD on Tuesday 7/3/12 and I finally received a call from ARS to schedule a consult on Monday for Tuesday morning. They were supposed to arrive a noon, but they called me at a 11 to tell me that they were running very behind and could we meet at 1. I always appreciate a phone call like that because it sets my expectations properly and I don't have to sit by the door waiting for them for an hour. The sales person was there at 1 and he seemed very nice and professional. I told him what we wanted, what we didn't want in terms of add on equipment (air purification system) and what the sizes were on the equipment we've been looking at, so we could compare apples to apples. He went about taking measurements and asking questions. Then we sat down at the table and he proceeded to give me the hard sell on why his company was so great. Then he finally gave me the estimate to look over. It was $2000 more than anyone else and he had priced bigger machines than I need. I pointed that out and asked him to re-price it so that I can properly compare. He told me that is what he recommended for my house and then proceeded to run down another company, whose brochure was sitting on the table. Then he proceeded to run down the brand (even though it is a subset of the brand he was trying to sell me) that the other company had priced for me. Then he again told me how stupid his competition was. I finally handed his estimate back to him and asked him to leave.
