 + -1 moreThe repairman arrived on time and was very polite and professional. He worked quickly and efficiently and found the problem with the leak immediately. He gave me an estimate and asked if I wanted to continue with the work. I agreed, so he thoroughly explained the problem, and gave me the obviously broken part after he had removed it. After repairing and reassembling the machine, and testing for further leaks, he cleaned the area and gave me a bill for the stated amount, including an Angie's list discount. I will definitely call Lerman again if I need a large appliance repair.
Description of Work: My Whirlpool washing machine would leak all water from the tub as soon as it began to fill. A new drain pump was installed.

 + -1 moreI guess not so bad.....he took care of the problem in an exemplary manner. I was FULLY satisfied except for price.
Description of Work: Vitaliy, the owner, came out to do the work himself. He was extremely professional and was able to do the repair on the spot. The gas valve had to be replaced and my only complaint was that I felt the labor fee was a bit high. He was at my house for 1 hour and he charged me $130.00 for the labor (I did get the $20 Angie's List discount bringing it to $90 which is more reasonable). The part had a fairly significant markup as well. He charged me $165 for the valve when I found it on the web at $85. I asked him about it and he said he gives a 1 year warranty (great!) and he only buys guaranteed new parts; which makes sense since parts on the web can be refurbished. So I called Sears (I would never actually use them - previous bad experience) and they charged $111 for the same part so Vitaliy is about $50 dollars higher; In the end, I think a fair price would have been about $200 and I paid $275.

 + -1 moreOn Feb 28,2011 I called Lerman Appliances about repairing my GE Built-in Wall ovens. They had a computer problem and didn't show up on the appointment. They called my house on Sunday to apologize and offered me an appointment for the next day. I confirmed the appointment. The repairman showed up, as promised. After inspecting the ovens, he determined the touch panel needed to be replaced. He said he would order the touch panel and a replacement door panel for the bottom oven, as that was damaged as well. The repairman indicated the parts would arrive during the following week and that he would call when then were in. He called to let me know the parts were in and came to my home the following day to install them. The touch panel and glass panel on the oven door were installed, not only to my satisfaction, but to that of my wife's. We were not happy with our initial experience with Lerman, but after their very logical explanation as to why they did not show up for the first appointment, I was very glad I used them to service my appliances.
Description of Work: My GE oven needed a new touch panel and one oven door glass panel replaced.

 + -1 moreAfter calling Sears to come and give an estimate, I wasn't very comfortable with their result. Not only did the Sears serviceman not completely inspect my fridge (he opened my freezer & said that he had 15 yrs. experience & could tell by looking at it what the problem was - grrr!), he gave me what ultimately was a wrong diagnosis & an estimate of $575. After reading the reviews of Lerman Appliances on Angie's List, I called and they were incredibly prompt, positively friendly and thorough. He diagnosed the problem as a computer issue for the defroster (NOT the defrost compressor that Sears psychically predicted), and ordered the part immediately. Although the part was pricey, they called three vendors to check on a price to make it the most affordable. Within a week, the service was complete and I could not be happier with the outcome. I highly recommend Lerman Appliances! :-)
Description of Work: My refrigerator/freezer was not cooling properly (popcicles were slush, yuck). Lerman Appliances (Ilya) came and performed a thorough inspection to find the problem. After the diagnosis, I agreed for them to complete the service. Within a week, it was complete! Not only did my refrigerator/freezer work properly, but Ilya put all of my groceries back into place and cleaned as he went. Terrific perk!

 + -1 moreThis was an excellent experience overall. The person in the office who took my call was helpful and arranged for a same-day service call (which in itself is quite amazing). The service tech who arrived right on time was knowledgeable and genial. He did a thorough job checking out my dryer and then explained the problem to me in a clear manner. What it would cost to repair my machine was high enough that I asked whether I should consider replacing the machine instead of the repair. The service tech helped me understand the facts involved in such a choice, but at no time did he try to sway me toward one choice or the other, even slightly. After hearing all the particulars, I decided that I'd rather invest in replacing the machine, which has quite a few years on it, than opting for the repair, which would have been relatively costly because of the replacement parts required. I was impressed that the tech might possibly have tried to sway me toward the repair since that would have resulted in a much larger tab for this particular service call. My feeling is that this is how service in America used to be -- running a business from the point of view that a one-time customer can become a repeat or regular customer if trust is established. I definitely will make a point of using this family-run provider again for large appliance repairs.

I was the one who was late, because my experience with other companies is that if they give you a window of 12-3, they show up at 3! However, this was not the case. He diagnosed the problem right away, and had the part in his car to fix it. He was knowledgeable and efficient with the service. It was $200, which I felt was reasonable. Plus, I got $20 off for being from Angie's List! This is a wonderful family business. I highly recommended them to anyone who has a broken appliance.
Description of Work: I had a broken refrigerator and freezer. Replaced a faulty relay, which was causing the compressor to NOT come on, thus defrosting all my frozen and refrigerated goods.

 + -1 moreCalled them on a Tuesday and explained the problem. They checked on the part availability, called me right back, and said the part would be in on Thursday. Got a call on Thursday that the part was in and we scheduled an appointment for later that day. He showed up at the appointed time, replaced the part, and was on his way within an hour or so. No problem, no hassles, and very professional and responsive. We will definitely use him again.

 + -1 moreI don't give "excellent s" easily but Lerman was accommodating and flexible on scheduling, extremely professional and timely, very low cost and high value service. They also gave excellent advice regarding the purchase of a new washing machine.
Description of Work: Washing machine was making loud noises and leaking water. Lerman diagnosed a broken tub and showed me the broken piece and gave me a thorough explanation of the problem; he also recommended buying a new machine rather that the expense of a a repair which would have been about the same as a new machine.

 + -1 moreOur washing machine's drain and spin cycle ceased to function over the New Year's Holiday weekend, leaving a full wash tub of washed, dripping towels in the machine. On Monday, I called Lerman Appliances at 11:50 in the morning and left a message. They returned my call within 10 minutes. Half an hour later, a mechanic (member of the owner's family) was on hand and knew exactly what to do. They had asked the right questions on the phone, and had exactly the part we needed in the truck. By 1:30 pm, our machine was functioning perfectly, the laundry room was clean, and the repairman was on his way, only 100 minutes after I first tried to reach them. The repairman was very professional and courteous, and explained everything he was doing in understandable detail. He was quick, and cleaned up after himself. The business warranties their parts for one year, and their labor for 30 days. And they gave us an Angie's list discount of $20 on labor.

 + -1 moreThis is the second time we have used Lerman for a repair and you couldn't find a more honest company. Our refrigerator wasn't keeping things cold enough and our freezer didn't seem to be working right as we had accidentally left the door open and the things in the door had not refrozen. After removing everything from our freezer and doing a thurough inspection the repairman told me he didn't think there was anything wrong with our appliance except the way were using it. We had too much stuff pushed up against the back wall of the refrigerator on the top shelf and that was restricting the air flow that was needed for the appliance to function properly. The freezer problem was simply a matter of changing the thermostat setting. The freezer was too packed to make up for the door having been left open on the setting it was on. The repairman had spent an hour checking out the appliance and all it cost me was the $30 diagnostic charge. 2 months later both the fridge and the freezer have been working correctly ever since the visit. They could easily have told me I needed a new thermostat and I would have happily paid for it. But they were honest. I can't recommend Lerman highly enough. They are great!

 + -1 moreVitaly told us that it would take awhile for the icemaker to get going, and when it wasn't making ice the next morning, we called Lerman. They explained that it would take a day or two, and we confirmed this by reading the Whirlpool manual. By Sunday, it was making ice again and it hasn't stopped since (a month and a half ago).
Description of Work: Two months ago, we had used Lerman to fix our Maytag Gemini gas range. We were impressed with Vitaly and his manner and asked him if he worked on refrigerators, which he said he did. We have a Whirlpool side-by side and had had some significant problems in the past with its icemaker, so we were just being proactive. In late September, we noticed the ice bin was not being replenished, and so we called Lerman and asked for Vitaly to take care of it. One of his sons answered the phone and got the basic information from us: make, model, etc. We were given a two hour time frame and as before, Vitaly arrived within that period. He checked it out and announced that it needed a new IR Control. He disassembled the icemaker and installed the new parts and put it back together and we were back in business after one hour of his time. This is the great thing about Vitaly -- he is knowledgeable and efficient and pleasant. When this refrigerator was under the manufacturer's extended service agreement, we had had the icemaker repaired three times by Whirlpool's service provider A&E. I won't waste your time describing the A&E service, but I did make several calls to Whirlpool and to A&E to complain, and was unable to get any satisfaction or expression of concern. When the service contract came up again for renewal, we decided we'd rather have to buy a new refrigerator than to have to deal with A&E again, and so we let the service contract lapse. Now, we are very happy that that unhappy experience with the Whirlpool service provider ended up with us discovering the wonderful Lerman Appliance.

 + -1 moreVitaliy showed up within the agreed time window and was very professional. He took the time to listen to my concerns and examine the evidence that the washer had leaked. He removed the top and front cover to the washer and examined every possible failure point. He ran the washer through an abbreviated cycle, hitting every cycle point to check for leaks, and then filled the washer to every set point to see how far up the tub the washer filled. After finding no issue, no leaks, and a relatively new motor with no evidence of leaks, he examined the inside of the front panel and saw splash marks and evidence that the tub had merely splashed out the top. He posited that it was likely someone filled the machine on the largest setting and THEN added clothes once the washer had stopped filling, thus causing the water level to rise above the water tight lip of the tub. The technician explained in clear language every point of failure on the washer that could cause a leak and why it was highly unlikely any of those were the culprit, other than possible misuse. Ultimately concluding that the washer was in perfect shape and in no need of repair, he told me that if the problem reoccurred and turned out to be a malfunction, the service visit fee I paid could be applied to any necessary repair. Courteous, professional, and prompt, I would definitely recommend these guys to any and everyone.
Description of Work: After recently having to have a floor replaced due to an overflowed laundry basin, I've been nervous about water. When my roommate called my attention to the fact that the washing machine had leaked onto its plywood underlayment, Lerman Appliances came out to diagnose the cause of the apparent leak.

 + -1 moreArrived during the scheduled time window. The repairman opened the unit and determined that the problem was a broken bearing and a failing clutch. He gave an estimate and suggested that because of the age of the washer (and the poor repair history of the model) we should consider purchasing a new machine rather than repairing the one we had. He recommended several models with good performance records available at a reasonable price. He only charged for the visit. Never pressured me to incur unnessary expenses. With this info in hand, we purchased a new washer and had it installed and running within 2 days. A great experience overall.

 + -1 moreVery responsible, compentent, and on-time. Quick Service. Replacement of Dishwasher Pump for $300 seemed reasonable. The $200 estimate for the two igniter replacements (including parts) seemed expensive, but the company did a thorough job replacing worn plates and other parts that most other companies would not. Then having failed originally to notice that a 3rd, igniter was out too , they order it, and came back a different day and provided the part and installed it for free -- So, the price was actually very decent. I trust this company and will use it again.
