+ -1 moreI wouldn't use this company again. I don't understand why they would send a repairman to my house if they had information that parts were no longer made for my dishwasher. I think the repairman didn't know what he was doing.
Description of Work: I have an 8 year old Fridgidaire/Electrolux dishwasher which was working, but was making strange sounds and not drying the dishes well. I called Lermans and scheduled an appointment for a serviceman to come to the house. The person who made the appointment for Lermans had me describe the problems and email the model number of my dishwasher "so that the repairman would be prepared to deal with my specific dishwasher." The repairman arrived on the date we scheduled, but he arrived early, before I arrived home. My nanny let him in, and he was in my home for about 45 minutes before I got home. He took the unit apart, and claimed he couldn't find anything wrong with the unit. I described the problems I was having with unit, and my nanny backed me up, but the repairman looked at me like I was making up problems. He advised me to start using a rinse aid in my dryer. Then he placed a phone call to his boss, and told me that parts for my unit were no longer available and I should just purchase a new dishwasher. The service call was a waste of my time and money. And the unit has continued to deteriorate and is now unusable. Today, while doing online research for a new dishwasher, I just discovered that parts for my dishwasher ARE still available. My only consolation is that I wasted only $45 on the service call to Lermans.

Description of Work: My refrigerator stopped cooling. Since it was a hi-end model, I was expecting a huge bill for repair. David, of Lerman Appliances, showed up within the stated time period. He inspected the refrigerator, and starting making a list of possible repair parts and prices. I was surprised with how relatively inexpensive the parts were, such as $75 for a new fan. Prior experience with other repair services have quoted hundreds of dollars for what appeared to me a $10 part. David quoted a "best case" and a "worst case" repair estimate, but even the "worst case" was less than I expected. But, David suggested that the only problem was that the freezer motor was frozen up, because the air passage was blocked by stacked food packages. He spent a lot of time with me explain the operaton, experiences, and quirks of my refrigerator model. He cleaned the coils and configured the refrigerator for some serious defrosting, and came back the next day to verify that everything was OK. It was.

+ -1 moreAfter my first experience with this company I decided to have them back to do another repair. This time the son came out to fix my washing machine. He replaced the belt on it, but told me the problem might be with the transmission. The next day people were calling me telling me that the machine was smoking, so I called Lerman Appliances and was told that since he had no quarters he had not tested the machine before leaving. I asked that they send my check back as the repair had not been made or even tested. They did send back my uncashed check, which I appreciate. I would definitely use them again based on past experience and how professionally they handled this situation.

He knew immediately what the problem was, gave me a hard time (in a very nice way) for not taking care of my appliance like I should, and then fixed everything. I really felt that this man knew his business completely and was not there to take advantage at all! Great experience. Soooooo happy!
Description of Work: Service light was flashing on my Sub Zero refrigerator. Apparently, you really do need to vacuum and clean the motor area occasionally or your refrigerator will break. This repair could have been avoided had I done this!

+ -1 moreAfter the first time I used the self-cleaning cycle on my electric double oven, the top oven stopped working. It wouldn't heat up anymore. Lerman was able to send someone out on the same day. My kids had a dentist appointment that day, so my window of time was really limited, but the office personnel and the technician were extremely helpful about staying in phone contact with me to make sure they could get out here and that I was home. When Ilya arrived, he was professional and polite and communicated well. He kept me informed about the steps he was taking, what he was looking for, and the possible scenarios he might discover as he took apart the oven. Once he had made the diagnosis, he stopped, told me the solution and gave me a price for it. He told me it would be $105, but then said, "But you found us on Angie's List, so that'll be $20 off." I liked that I didn't have to remind him or ask him for the discount. The oven's been working great ever since. This is a family-owned business, and they clearly take pride in doing their work well. I really didn't think they could live up to all these fabulous Angie's List reviews, but they definitely did in my case.
Description of Work: Repaired oven that would no longer heat up because the self-cleaning cycle had tripped some kind of thermostat.

+ -1 moreVitaliy Lerman, the owner, performed the work himself. He was knowledgeable, efficient, conscientious and cordial. Very professional. He went the extra mile to make sure things worked properly and cheerfully accommodated my schedule. When he discovered he had to return to do additional work, he did it free of charge. His son Val, who was my phone contact, was kind and efficient as well. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Replaced latch on oven. Replaced 3 burners and 2 spark modules.

Description of Work: My Dryer was not blowing hot air. I called another service first and he did not know how to fix the model Maytag I had. Mine has the Steaming Cabinet above it. The Lerman guys arrived on time and finished very quickly. Their price I felt was very good. I had two parts replaced and the dryer vacuumed. He recommended some critical safety repairs I needed do which he could not perform and gave me a written warranty on his work. I would definitely use them again. He also gave me an Angie's List discount.

+ -1 moreWhen I called to schedule an appointment, I spoke with Val who was very professional, pleasant and helpful. He took my information and I was offered a convenient appointment. The serviceman, Vitaliy, arrived and spent a good amount of time diagnosing all of the appliances. He gave us a very detailed description of what was wrong with each and what it would take to fix them. Parts needed to be ordered so I was rescheduled for a Sunday for them to come back and make the repairs/replacements. They normally do not work on Sundays, but Vitaliy was going on vacation and wanted to make sure that he completed the repairs prior to his vacation. Their price was very reasonable for all that they did. I cannot say enough about this company. I have been searching for the right service company to fix my appliances as I have had them repaired in the past and was not pleased with the company I used. I joined Angies List specifically to research and hopefully find someone who was knowledgeable, efficient, and reasonable. I found everything in Lermer's Appliances and would highly recommend them. They get an A+ from me.
Description of Work: The servicemen repaired my Viking oven by replacing the thermostat and broiler ignitor. They replaced my refrigerator's ice maker and lastly they replaced my motor/pump for my dishwasher. From start - calling the company to schedule an appointment for service - to finish - diagnosing the problems correctly and making the repairs/replacements, this company was wonderful. I would totally recommend them to anyone. They also offer a one year warranty on replaced parts.

+ -1 moreI called them with a description of the problem and giving them the model number. I was able to schedule an appointment a few days later. When they showed up at the time they promised, they went right to work inspecting and diagnosing the problem. They told me that the ignition switch needed to be replaced and the cost of parts and labor. I agreed to have them replace it with a new one that they had in their truck. The labor was a fixed price instead of by the hour. It took them only about 15 minutes to install it if that, so I felt a little overcharged on the labor. I do feel they where professional, which is important when dealing the a GAS appliance!

+ -1 moreThis is my first Angie's List posting - that's how much recommend this company! On Saturday morning, May 21st, my washing machine overflowed. It looked to me like for some reason the sensor that told the washer it was full wasn't working, so the machine just kept filling with water. I researched on Angie's List and called Lerman Appliances. To my happy surprise, the friendly woman who answered the phone said that they would be able to send a technician that same day. He arrived on time and was teriffic. There are many technicians and home repair representatives who patronize a single woman, but he was the opposite. He agreed with my diagnosis and showed me what he was doing. He said that the sensor might be clogged or might need to be replaced, but unfortunately he would have to order the replacement so would take several days. He then proceeded to take the front off my washing machine. He removed the sensor, cleared out the tubes connecting it to the machine and tested it. Sure enough everything was back to normal. He even cleaned out the lint inside the machine for me. Some techs would have told me I needed a new part and another visit to rack up the cost. It's really great to find someone who's good at their job, honest and nice!

I do not understand sending someone out in that condition. I was afraid he was going to fall & injure himself in my home. He came unprepared as well! I will not use this company again.

+ -1 moreEverything went smoothly and I am a satisfied customer, will call Lerman again if needed. My only criticism, and it's a small one -- the technician left dirty fingerprints on the oven handles and door, and bits of blackened, charred food from the oven on the kitchen floor. I would have taken the extra 5 minutes to spot sweep the floor and wipe off the finger prints on the oven door and handles. That's why I gave an "A" rating on everything but Professionalism, for which I gave a "B" rating.
Description of Work: Gas oven was not working correctly, sometimes wouldn't light, when it did light it would not stay lit. Lerman technician came out, diagnosed the problem as a faulty starter, and replaced the faulty part.

+ -1 moreMy dishwasher broke and was stuck in a continuous cycle and showed the code CL on the touch pad. I had another company come and look at it but after three visits, they admitted defeat and decided they could not fix it and told me to buy a new dishwasher! After looking at prices on new machines, I decided, given that my dishwasher was only 4 years old, to try another company and that is when i called Lerman Appliances. I found them here on Angie's List. They were reasonable, professional and narrowed down the dishwasher problem to one of two parts - the touch pad or the control panel. They ordered new parts, showed up a week later with both and after trying the touch pad without any luck, installed a new control panel and got the machine up and running.They whole operation took under 20 minutes, they guy was professional and punctual and I am very relieved not to have to buy a new dhswasher. Highly recommended!
