The price was not cheap, but fair.
I certainly would use them again, and recommend them to friends.
Unfortunately, we were pleased with the work that was done, but very disatisfied of the way the lien circumstance was handled overall. I understand how situations can arise and miscommunication can take place, but I felt that from the beginning we were not dealt with in an honest manner, Because of this I would not reccomend Joe's Paving to another potential customer.
They made an appt to repair after they got the go-ahead and I wasnt there to see what happened but the next day I was driving on a new driveway and my car wasnt off roading like it was before. I never thought I would ever look for a concrete person but it was very easy.
professional and prompt throughout the whole process. He answered any
and all questions I had before the process began. Once the work began it
was done quickly and efficiently in about 2.5 days (at the request of
my tenants to complete the sealing work in two days instead of one to
keep part of the parking lot open).
The lot looks great and is
holding up well so far. Sean met me for a walk around the property after
the work was completed to assure quality. I am thoroughly impressed with the work.
I also know other businesses who have used Joe's Paving Co and had similar glowing reviews.
When picking up the rock from their vendor there was an error and more rock than ordered was provided to Joe's paving. They applied the excess rock, almost double our original expectation, at no additional cost to us. At a minimum it must have increased their labor cost to spread the rock.
As it turned out the amount of gallonage set aside for our job turned out not to be sufficient. The access road was "rougher" than anticipated. The project was completed the first thing the following morning and again at no increase in cost to us.
An area of about 40 square feet part way up the access road had extensive cracks and the area was patched with asphalt concrete. This was not part of the bid and was included at no cost to us.
I've had work performed by painters, electricians, plumbers, roofers and carpenters. Joe's Paving was superior in every way to any other contractor with whom I have previously dealt.
I would unreservedly recommend them.
On Feb 24th, 2012, I contacted Sean at Joe's paving to inform him of some ponding we are experiencing. I also wanted to schedule the seal coating. I followed up on March 21st and again on April 9th. Each time Sean tells me he his super busy, but that he will get back with me. As of today, I have still not been contacted by Sean. This is a disappointment considering the wonderful service we initially received. I will not recommend Joe's paving any longer as they do not stand by their work; nor have they been timely in responding to my concerns.
Original Report:
Excellent. Everything went exactly as planned....except some over spray of tack coating which could have been avoided with some prep work on the part of Joe's.
I had 4 quotes, Joe's was not the least cost; but after meeting with Rudy (prepared initial estimate), and then Sean, I can say they both explained in detail, how the work would be performed to ensure existing drainage and grades would be maintained! On the day of the work, I met with Randy and the job supervisor, we reviewed the project, discussed the importance of not negatively affecting existing drainage patterns; I then went to work.....and when I came home; what a pleasant surprise! Other than the tack over spray, which I have yet to deal with, I have no complaints!
I got offers from 4 different contractors for either the patch work or a complete redo. Out of the 3 contractors who promised to excavate (as opposed to just laying new asphalt on top of bad sub base), Joe's Paving had the best price. We contracted Joe's paving to repair the private main road as well, so that probably helped me with my driveway job pricing though.
Sean the owner made the initial estimate and bid for the work, and he was great to work with. He had a good engineering eye for grading and drainage issues and made some good proposals on what to fix if I want to completely redo the driveway. I ended up going with just repairs to the existing driveway ($2k as opposed to $10k), but they still built a small asphalt ditch at no extra cost as a quick and easy help for my drainage problem.
The asphalt crew arrived at quite a short notice as some other job had been cancelled, but I understand it's very expensive to keep the crew and machines idle. They had a crew of 10+ workers and got both the main road and my driveway repaired in one day. Sean stopped by a couple of times during the day to oversee the crew, and to tell them to fix a couple of more things with my driveway. All and all, Sean and the crew went above and beyond what was on the original bid, and ended up fixing many small areas we didn't even originally discuss.
I realize my driveway is already on extended time and eventually needs to be completely removed and redone. With the repairs exceeding my expectations, I'm hoping to get 5 more years out of it as opposed to the 3 years I was initially hoping for. Based on my experiences with the repairs, Joe's Paving will be the first on my list when the time comes to redo the driveway.
