After reading all the positive reviews on this gentleman, I was very surprised when I called him to inquire about some tile work.  He answered the phone without identifying his business and I had to inquire if he was a tile guy.  He said yes, but his overall tone and response made it sound like I was bothering him.  He finally told me that he was slammed with work and asked me if I knew someone else who could handle the job. I told him I did and he sounded relieved.  In fairness, he became more civil after this, but the bottom line was that it was a very unprofessional response and as a customer who is ready to spend money,  I don't like to deal with people who act like you're troubling them.
Perhaps he was having a bad day, or perhaps he's so good he doesn't have to welcome new business.  Since I didn't hire him, I can't say if he is good at what he does.  The other reviews seem to indicate that he is quite good.  But my bottom line is that I won't call him again when I need tile work done.
Response from Hegle Tile

"I am sorry you took my tone of voice the wrong way. I was not having a bad day. Yes I did tell you I was slammed with work, but I never asked you if you could find someone else. You told me you had a Mexican guy who could replace the 6 Saltillo tiles. I said, that would be your best bet. Then you asked me if they were easy to find and I said yes. I hope you found them and all is well. Rod Hegle."

Rod Hegle arrived on time to my residence to drill holes into our remodeled shower stall.  Rod and his crew completed the remodel two years ago.  Hegle Tile is consistently clean, punctual, polite and provide the highest quality workmanship I can imagine.  This was the third bathroom remodel completed by Rod, and we look forward to having him create our fourth next summer!

Rod did an excellent job. The tile lay out was an unusual pattern and it is beautiful. The workmanship is excellent.

Rod gave us a fair estimate for tile work on the backsplash of our kitchen remodel. He also passed on his discount on the tile we picked out. We had some tile from a former home that we wanted to incorporate into the design and he was happy to accommodate us. We had to coordinate Rod with our cabinet/countertop installers and our electrician and he integrated well with them.  and when We ran a little short on tile and Rod made a second 40 mile round trip to get the needed materials. Our backsplash included some random design inserts and upon completion of the backsplash Rod noted that there was an area that needed some extra design inserts to balance the overall design. He suggested that he remove a couple of the plain sections, order some extra design inserts and he would return yet another day to properly finish the job. This was above and beyond the initial bid of the project but he did not charge extra for the time and trips needed to do this.
We also needed to replace tiles removed from the floor because the floor layout of the kitchen remodel was not the same as the pre-exisiting kitchen. I removed several tiles and Rod cleaned up the concrete and thinset from the back of the tiles and repatched the floor beautifully. This floor was laid in the mid 70's and the grout was nowhere near it's original color. Rod was able to come up with a very close grout match and the patched floor looks great.
From start to finish, this phase of our remodel went great. Rod's work is excellent and he is a man of integrity.

We got and researched two bids and chose Rod's, even though his was about 10% more expensive, because he wasn't afraid to tell us that the tile we chose might not be as rugged as we thought.  He started and finished when promised, laid the tile in an order that allowed us to access all the house every evening, left the job site reasonably clean during the job, and very clean afterwards. Most tilers say to order 10% more tile than the square footage suggests; he had us order only about 5% more. We had very little left over because he and his assistant were efficient in using small cut triangles elsewhere on the job to minimize waste. So even though his labor bid was more, the tile cost was a little less. We liked the result so much that we decided to tile two more rooms and hired him to do that 2 months later.

Ron Hegle and his assistant visited my house on four separate occasions to complete the work described above.  The quality of their work was outstanding.  Working with an interior designer and making suggestions to her throughout the work, Ron was able to make small improvements to the quality and design of the tile installation that made a huge difference in the outcome.  For example, Ron suggested installing ceramic tiles in a downstairs powder room to be offset on the floor at a 45-degree angle instead of squared-off against each other.  It was a nice touch that made a big difference in the outcome of the remodel.  Ron also made similar suggestions for installation of travertine tile on my living room fireplace surround that really "dressed-up" the fireplace surround and gave it a classy look.  Ron also did a great job on my kitchen backsplash.

Hegle Tile's cost was fair the quality of work performed was excellent.  I'd recommend them for any tile or masonry installation.

Rod Hegle and his assistant are true professionals. We were very pleased with their work quality and punctuality. Rod has an artistic eye and lent his creativity in those instances where I wasn't sure what direction to go in; he was otherwise happy to execute on what I already had in mind. He did a really nice job recreating a craftsman effect for our fireplace without reliance on any pattern. He built the other fireplace with faux stone very well. He made recommendations on how to be cost-efficient but did not cut corners. And, he was responsive in returning a couple times to fill in a few cracks that inevitably show up after the grout has dried. He's not the cheapest contractor, but he's not the most expensive either. Overall, I felt that I got a reliable product for a reasonable value. Rod is also a very nice guy. I'd highly recommend this company.
