When I requested an estimate, the people at Northern California Roofing Company were efficient and professional. They set up an appointment for Thursday, Aug. 1 in the afternoon. My consultant called, suggesting an earlier time of day which was even better for me. When Mr. Clark arrived, he listened to my concerns. He examined the roof. When he came down, he actually showed me the type of materials that could be used. He offered several options for the re-roofing, and explained the differences--pros and cons--of each. We discussed scheduling because I wanted to get the roofing done as soon as possible. He had had actual samples of composition shingles in his truck. That was helpful--to be able to see the actual colors in daylight, not just in a brochure--made choosing a shingle easy. He also had a list of homes in my area and colors they had chosen so I could drive by to see my favorite, or potentially, choose another. He could set up my roofing for Aug. 5-7 or 8-10 if I made my decision by Aug. 2 before closing time. When I told Mr. Clark that his was my first estimate, he gave me some pointers for my next interviews--check for insurance, licenses, bonding, etc. All this information was very helpful and much appreciated. The only problem I had was getting a written estimate. I understood from that first meeting that an estimate couldn't be precise, but I only was given a verbal range of about $10,000. I called the company office Friday morning to remind Mr. Clark I would need a written estimate before I could choose a company. My third estimator was coming Friday at 3:30, and I had promised Mr. Clark a decision by closing time Friday. I reached Mr. Clark by phone and told him we couldn't start work on Monday; I would still be waiting for 2 estimates. So I set a new deadline of Monday, Aug. 5 to choose a roofer. I got my other estimates from other Angie's List on Monday. I chose a company for my job, and contacted the others to thank them for their estimates. When I spoke to Mr. Clark, I thanked him for his effort educate his customers, not just get their business. For me, it came down to economics.

Excellent in every way, please see previous statement.
Description of Work: The previous roofers hired by our landlords (owners) had not been properly licensed, in fact most of them were not legal citizens, and they did an extremely poor job on the roof leaving numerous problems we dealt with for many years...leaks, hole in the ceiling, plus they broke the condensation pipe in the A/C unit and did not tell us. These newly hired roofers informed us of this problem and that was also creating the leak in our dining room. Northern California Roofing repaired all the problems, and finished the roofing in places where it had not been finished properly by the previous roofers. They were professional, on time, and worked diligently. They were also very polite and answered all questions even though we were "just the renters". We are unaware of the actual cost since the owners/landlords paid the bill however since the owners would rather hire unlicensed contractors, if we let them get away with it, this roofing company was probably reasonable with their fee.

Salesperson, Byron took the time to teach me about roofing products and was very professional. His bid came in right in the middle of other bids I had acquired but with such a large company behind him Byron was able to get the job started within a week and was done in 4 days. With the info Byron had given me, I knew what to look for when going over the other bids I received...and was able to weed out the substandard products some other roofers were prepared to use. I had two appointment times with Byron before making my decision and he was prompt, professional and personable.

We appreciate all our clients and do the best that we can to satisfy their roofing service requests. We had given the member her estimate, she requested to revise, we did and she was not satisfied. We appreciate her considering us to do the repair on the roof, but respect her decision if we do not meet her service needs. Thank you.

From contacting the company to the finish product, it was a very simple and fast process. They worked around my days off so that I could be there to see the work, and the crew was polite and clean. They did not leave a mess when they left and they were easy to work with. I even had them take away in their dump run a old area rug that I no longer wanted for no extra charge. Just a great business and staff all around. I would be happy to recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: I had purchased a new home a couple of years ago, and it had a number of broken tiles on the roof for some reason.. I called Zack at the office, and he and a crew came out to match the tile roof best possible, and repaired all the broken tiles (there were a lot), and make my roof like new. They also took the time to re-dress all the vents coming from the roof to make sure they were weather proof. The work was great, and I feel much better now with a good roof again.

Overall it was a great experience and I have and will continue to recommend this company. One of our best friends was in need of a new roof and after seeing ours finished he also hired Northern California roofing Co. He was pleased as well. This project happened during some rainey days and they made sure that our house was covered.
Description of Work: This company was amazing to work with. Mr. Klinkovsky was professional, and his crew did what they promised. Before I hired them I wanted to make sure they would clean up and everyday they cleaned the property before they left. They tore off my old roof, changed the pitch and put on a new roof. It is beautiful.

I have waited to write this report so that I could do it with the benefit of hindsight. The experience of having Northern California Roofing reroof my house was long and painful. For months it felt like I had a second job in managing an incompetant crew and unresponsive managment. In fairness, several things delayed the job (for examle: shingles going out of stock, the replacement order taking time, and rain) and caused the roofer trouble. However other problems were within the roofer's control. The crew was late to start each day which meant they did much of the work in the dark after sunset. Cleanup was poor. The crew did not know how to iinstall the roof windows that the salesman said they had experience with. And the crew did sloppy work like leaving nails not fully driven in and painting the flashing a bright red that was not even close to matching the 1920's brick facade of the house. Low points of the job include: a lien that the roofer put on our house a month and a half before the work described in the contract was finished, needing a second contractor who speciallizes in installing windows to fiish the roof window installation that the roofers could not, a broken downstairs window, water leaks in the attic and through the wall into the front hall. The lessons I learned are embarrasing to retell but I wish I'd heard them form someone else before this job: don't reroof in the rainy season, and don't let delays drag you into the rainy season. Get at least one real recommendation from a customer preferably someone you know already. If you have access to a general contractor you trust use him or her. A GP can speak with more authority and should have the experience to read between the lines of what the roofer is saying. Look for good communication skills and ask a lot of questions about who will actually be on the roof doing the work and how the job description on the contract will be communicated to them. Take notes and confirm what is said in meetings with followup email based on the notes. This makes people get serious about what they say and keeps everyone on the same page. I started this too late to avoid trouble. What follows are exerpts from notes I took about phone conversations and events. I include this to give some idea of how long the process took. Some of what is here shows the efforts the roofer whent throught to complete the job and make it right. I appreciate these efforts. They did complete the job in the end, and now that the next rainy season is here I will see how the roof does. I think the frustration I had was that the roofer would talk about getting it done and then take some apparently decisive action to fix the problem but it would not be lasting progress and either it would not fix the problem or another problem would come up. One example of what I mean is that at one point with no gutters on the house and heavy rains we had water coming in through a wall in the front hall. It damaged the plaster and baseboard. The office representative of the roofer came and saw it and immediately called a contractor to come fix it. Within a couple days two men came and worked on the damage but they did a messy job with the baseboard and drywall, leaving gaps of 3/16 to 1/4 inch between the two pieces of baseboard meeting at a 90 degree corner pointing into the room. This just looks sloppy and does not fit with the rest of the house but I prioritized other more serious shortcomings when I pressed the roofer to complete the job. To put the following in context the sales man said, at the meeting when he gave his bid, that he thought the whole job could be done within one week, from tear off to completion. I assumend it would be double that. 1/6/2010 tear off done Terry said shingling to start tomorrow 2/5/10 window installation on going. called Zack to ask him to suprevise Terry said roofers scheduled to finish window installation on the fifteenth but may not be able to delay payment until then. I explained job was not done. 1/12/2010 Roofers left exposed felt on much of roof in the rain, it warped and bubbled, took much convincing to have roofers replace wet lumpy felt. I moved tools, plywood and the crew's microwave to keep them dry under the carport. 1/19/2010 Tarp flapping, roof leaking Juan to secure tarp today 1/23/2010 checked their work Zack said he'd pay for and have a contractor come fix the water damage in the front hall. Zack agreed to pay for broken window caused by cinder block I tied to tarp to hold it down. I had been flapping wildly. 2/15/2010 7-7:30 roofers clean up and leave. problems found in dark: roof window flashing bent and not sealing, flashing against brick painted a bright red, damaged shingle in hog valley. 3/5/2010 Met with Zack concernng the roof window installation and bright red paint on flashing. He agreed to buy new paint to match sample brick he took, and we discussed scheduling a window installer to complete the installation of the roof windows that his crew could not finish. 4/13/2010 roofer puts Mechanic's Lien on our house 6/1/2010 spoke with Terry on phone. was about to climb on roof to inspect most work from last 48 hours 6/2/2010 spoke with Greg and Terry, crew was on the property yesterday finishing work and we are still waiting for roof windows to be installed. Harlan Smith completes roof window installation and bills us.

Andy came to give us an estimate and we were very impressed with his knowledge of roofing and how he was able to give us answers to all of our questions. He compared products for us and made great recommendations. Within the week the crew came early each day and put in 3 days of quality work and did a great job. They arranged to get us contractors pricing on the facia we needed replaced and painted them as well. They cleaned up everything at the end of each day didn't leave a trace behind. Andy also checked regularly on the progress of the job and for quality control. We were very pleased and the roof looks fantastic!

They were not the cheapest bid, but the salesman just gave off an air of confidence in his company and seemed VERY professional. At the time of the bid, the salesman said it'd take 1-5 days to get the roof and gutters completed. I was amazed when the 4 man crew completed my large home in almost 2 days! They came out and worked from sun up to sundown, kept my property spotless, and were just amazing. After the tore off my roof, they found a ton of dry rot which was repaired at a good price. My brother is a carpenter and he was shocked at how well the wood on the overhangs and the rafters was replaced. The crew and operations manager were always ready to answer my questions and they made sure to explain the why's and the how's of the work being done. This was a very pleasant experience and they took away all my misgivings with roofers. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Removal went good. Old ,material hauled away with little debris left behind. Equipment left no marks on the driveway. Installation was very bad. Nails were placed incorrectly in many in areas. Flashing was not run properly, Rain diverted was improperly installed. A portion of the roof had to be reinstalled. The City inspector wold not sign off until I was satisfied with the work. Even after I signed off, I found problems that I had to correct later at my own expense. The crew appeared to be mostly non English speaking and unskilled. I would stay away from this company if I had it to do over again. Had I of not inspected the work and known what to look for, damage to the roof and home would have occurred eventually.

It went well. They made the appt with my renter to check the roof. Kept in contact with me and then made the cleaning appt with the renter as well. When they were finished they called me to let me know as well.
Description of Work: My renter called and said ceiling had slow drip on Friday. Called them second as first on Angie's List, NW roofing, called to say they would make an appt and never called back so I went back to AL and got their name. They came out right away and said no roof leak but gutter back up. Offered to clean roof and gutters 2 days later. Called back and said were coming earlier as the "rains" were coming and did not want me to have same problem. Good periferal thinking.
