RE: PROJECT # 114145747, For 6 months now & as a senior, have had a gnawing feeling of being financially abused by POWER PRO on June 13, 2020. Via referral from Home Advisor, on May 19th, a Power Pro tech came, giving me 3 options to restore hot water service: 1), Full replacement (too expensive), 2), replace a part (still expensive, even at half of eventual cost), 3), a "temp" fix. Thinking a temp fix would function, MINIMUM, thru the end of warm weather & being pre-op for a 3rd spine surgery, I jumped at #3. The technician worked nearly 2 hours. Cost was $166, For time he spent here, thought that was reasonable. Sadly, the "fix" lasted 2 weeks and by 6-4 was again without hot water, So decided on Option # 2 above. Same tech returned & I had to sign a bunch of OK's BEFORE he would begin working. Was surprised that he finished all work in LESS THAN 1 HOUR; but the shorter time's labor charge had escalated to $275. Added to a ridiculous $485 for a "WATERHEATER THERMOCOUPLE." that looked like a small BIC aluminium cigarette lighter attached to a few feet of plastic tube was upsetting. Considering cost of labor doubling for 1/2 time spent & flimsy nature of the thermocouple, I asked for a reduction of final cost: $711.50. Tech's reply was: "both part & labor are already discounted." Felt then, as i do now, that labor cost of $166 on 5-19 was a setup for me to believe final cost of labor 3 weeks later would be just as fair. Also believe final cost of the thermocouple was double even it's true retail value. After 5 months, still believe i was financially abused by POWER PRO on June 13th. This form of senior exploitation is a crime in the state of California. Sincerely, Paul LaMastra
