"As the estimator for this job I did make a mistake when I entered the total on the proposal. I was in fact on vacation (out of town) when the customer's representative called to say they wanted to proceed with the work. I let him know that I would contact the office for a starting date and in the process noticed that I had made a serious typo error when I entered the dollar amount. I put a 2 where it should have been a 3. Within one and a half hours of our first conversation I contacted him to tell him about the error. I made my most humble apologies , and told him I understood if he felt he couldn't do business with us. Unfortunately he had already notified his employer that he had found a reputable company to do the work at a very good price. Due to my error he then had to go back to his employer and and tell him he would have to make other arrangments which I'm sure was embarresing for him. I fully understand his disappointment, and tried very hard to convey how sorry I was for the mistake."
"I'm not really sure where to start with this , so I'll just jump right in. We were a bit shocked when we read this report since the only thing we did was to meet with the customer and give him a quote. After talking to the Angies List rep. and to our employee I decided to contact the customer. It was determined that our employee followed all of our company policies. We had an approx. 10 minute conversation where the customer changed his story several times. I asked him about each of the grade categories and why we were given such bad grades. For instance "puntuality. Our rep showed up for the appointment on time. The customer claimed it took three days to get a quote and said that we had been there on Thursday and he didn't get the bid until Monday. All of our records show that we met him on Friday, and the bid was sent by Email the same day. However the Email did not get delivered as there was a glich. First thing Monday morning this was noticed, the customer was contacted and it was resent to the correct address. The customer still had his estimate within two business days. The other claim that our price was $600.00 more turns out that we were $400.00 more but we had givin an estimate for more than twice the length of fence than the other company. We priced replacing 20ft of fence that had been damaged by a vehicle and then another 20ft of fence beyond that. The work that was done by the other company was only 15ft of replacment fence. It's easy to see why there was a difference in cost. I asked the customer about the other grades and he offered no reasons that made much sense. We take any complaint very seriously wheather it's on Angies List or by any other means. I contacted this customer to applogise that he had a less than pleasant experience and to see what we did wrong and how we could improve. As I said before, our employee followed all company policies, although we have decided that we will wait at least 10 minutes after sending an email to be sure it gets delivered."
