We want to make it clear that we are happy with the product and installation, we believe we were deceived by the company regarding their post installation service.
Three years ago when we renovated our backyard, we interviewed and got estimates from seven or eight companies installing artificial grass. We have a very small back yard with a pool in the middle. Although we preferred the “grass” appearance of another company we chose Onelawn because their installation technique involved the use of bender board at the edge of the “grass”. This was important to us because we wanted to retain a couple feet of planting area around the perimeter. With only about three feet of “grass” on either side of the pool, we were concerned about wearing a track. Our salesperson assured us that Onelawn would provide mechanical service after installation to groom the “grass” if it became crushed. Since he did not advise us that there would be cost for this service, we assumed - or he implied - that it would be a courtesy. This impression was reinforced by Onelawn salespersons at various home shows and festivals where we enthused about our love of the product. Mentioning that one area has matted from walking behind our house, we were advised to call the company. As in, “just give us a call, we’ll send somebody out”. At no time did any of these people say that there would be a charge for this service.
Now, three years after installation we called Onelawn for service. The appointment was made. Only then did Jason inform me of the $250 charge as if it was an afterthought. A few days ago, my husband called Charles, our original salesman who confirmed the $250 charge because they “would have to send a crew”. Charles further stated that it is company policy to NOT inform customers of their maintenance fee. In fact, at time of sale, we were led to believe that the “grass” would be maintenance free. Charles had to know that a portion would become tracked down with our accessing the planting areas he included in the installation plan.
Four fifths of our backyard is still beautiful but we’ll have to live with the 3’ x 30’ section because $250 is an absurd amount for “a crew” to perform a couple minutes work when Onelawn could have the “crew” drop by when they are working in our area. This service would only take a few minutes if they were in the neighborhood.
In conclusion, the product is excellent, the installers were great and now three years after installation, we very happy with the appearance of our lawn except for this one portion.
We have recommended Onelawn to several people and usually stop by their booth at home shows to give testimonials to prospective customers. Incidentally, we have never written a negative review on Angie’s List but we now believe Onelawn was deceptive in its sale pitch because Charles could have not known that his product would not stand up to the necessary foot traffic in this area.
We received an estimate and were told we would have an installation date within 2 weeks. The Technician came and took the final measurements. The removal and installation took under two days. The crew was fast, efficient, very neat and very pleasant. They took the time to educate us about the maintenance needed. They made sure we were satisfied with the installation.
There were two things that I was a little unhappy with. The two weeks we were given for the installation turned into three with no contact from the company. After 2 or 3 phone calls, we reached the secretary who had to call us back and tell us the order had not come in yet. Then it took another week before an appointment for installation was scheduled. The installation crew was prompt and on time. But during the installation process they removed the sprinklers in the lawn and in the process disconnected the flower beds. We didn't realize this until the weather turned warm.
We are very pleased with the finished product. We keep getting compliments from the neighbors.
