Long Beach Heating & Air Conditioning Inc

Electrical Baseboard or Wall Heater - Repair, Recovery Service - Water Removal, Central A/C - Install,

About us

Long Beach Heating & Air Conditioning incorporated in 1957 and was formerly American Heating Company in the early 1940's. At that time a service call was $5.00, a thermostat cost $15.95, a brand new dual Wall furnace was $39.95, We were located at 5057 Long Beach Blvd. and our phone number was 20-4985. 62 years later American Heating lives on and not much has changed. We are 4 blocks from the original location, our phone number is 424-4985, and a service call has only increased less than $1 dollar a year! Long Beach Heating and Air Conditioning is without a doubt the most reliable HVAC company in Long Beach. We remain locally owned & operated by Tom White, who started working for the company in 1978. Our Motto is "Big enough to take care of your needs, but small enough to give you personalized service" Today's technology and the reliability of years past.

We got multiple bids on the price and they came in at a good price close to another company. We choose them because of the price and because they took the time to respond to the Angie list comments online. We also had a technician come out up front to assess the heaters and we were pleased with the what he had to say and his attitude. The installers did a very good job and were careful to not dirty the carpeting.

"Hi Member, Thanks for taking the time out of your day to leave a review! You were great to work with, you knew what you wanted and that makes for a good start. The comfort of our customers is the most important thing along with establishing a long term relationship, so we do our best to be competitive but sometimes we just have to depend on our customer service to earn the job, prices fluctuate as the economy and seasons change but I can honestly say our pricing is consistant all year long. I will pass your compliments on to the guys, These days everyone's schedule is so demanding and there are never enough hours in the day so when someone finds the time to leave a review ( yet we all find the time when dissatisfied to leave one haha) I find the time to respond and say Thank you. So Thanks Member your review is appreciated more than you know! See you next season for your service! Desiree Manard Accounts Manager @ LBHA"

They wouldn't give me pricing per vent, which is what I was looking for. So, I decided not to use them. I have an older home and felt they were going to try to sell me on other things that I am not interested in.
Response from Long Beach Heating & Air Conditioning Inc

"I am sorry you got that impression of my company. I would just like to clarify for the future in case you change your mind. A duct cleaning is a flat price of $299.00 for up to 8 ducts and $25.00 each additional duct after that. Your return air of course is considered a duct. However if you a small amount of ducts like 3 to 4 (possibly a small condo) I can have the flat price of $299.00 pro rated! We have been in business for 52 years, I personally pride my company's reputation of not selling you what you don't need. I feel that is a false sense of advertising, being a consumer myself that is not good business. Again I am sorry you got that impression we are a very good company and would love the opportunity to tend to your HVAC needs. Thank you for the feedback it is what makes us improve. Best Regards Desiree Manard Accounts Manager for Long Beach Heating & Air"

I want to give high praise for Long Beach Heating. Our old 40 year old heater gave up in the middle of a cold spell and I called Long Beach heating to get an estimate. They asked if I had heat I said no and they said the owner would come out right away to check the situation. I called at 9am and Tom the owner was at my home by noon exactly when he said he would be there. I wanted a replacement - our heater was old, he estimated at least 40+ years and of course very inefficient. I asked Tom what he thought the AFUE rating would be for that old heater and said at best 55. I had done some research on the net and I wanted an Energy Star rated gas furnace that gets a federal tax credit up to $1500 including labor if you install a high efficiency heater. Tom sent me an email that day with the price for two systems for comparison. I picked the better gas heater (Bryant) with a AFUE rating of 95! This was all on a Friday afternoon. One of the problems with old homes is asbestos. And our home had asbestos on all the ducts and this had to be removed. His licensed subcontractor was willing to come out on the weekend and remove all the asbestos ducting for $500. That was a bargain and they did a great job - the sub was professional and fast. Two techs showed up on time at 9am and were done by noon and they hauled away all the asbestos duct work. Remember this was on the weekend. I scheduled Long Beach heating to install for the following Friday at 9am. Tom's three man installation crew showed up exactly on time in very nice trucks with clean uniforms. The crew was Sal, David, and Mike. They immediately laid down clean tarps to protect the floors in the home and even outside access to the crawl space on my patio. They were very professional and competent. Our old furnace was big and heavy and had to be removed through a trap door in my son's closet. They got this monstrous thing out without making a mess or struggle. We had a look at it outside before they placed it in one of their two trucks for disposal (whatever they remove they dispose of for you), and this heater was rotten with big rust holes in it - it might have been dangerous regarding carbon monoxide - I was glad to get rid of it. It took the three of them all day to do 95% of the job. It required some carpentry, sheet metal work, electrical, gas hookups, ducting to all the vents, new ducting to the roof etc etc. All neatly done with no problems - they worked together as a good team. BTY Tom the owner came by in the afternoon to check on the work and to see if I was happy so far - I was. Sal and David came back on Saturday morning to install the thermostat and final electrical hookups and give me instructions on how the heater worked. They came on time at 8:30am and were done in a couple of hours. As always they were careful not to leave a mess and picked up all the bits of wires, tubing, sheet metal etc. As a matter of fact neighbors came by and wanted their business cards. Well - our family is so happy to have our new heater it works GREAT!! The price that was estimated by Tom is what I paid to the dollar! Honestly I don't know if I could of got a better price on the system but I know that they did a professional job with no headaches and it went incredibly well and that was worth every penny to me. I highly recommend LONG BEACH HEATING!

I am very satsified with the service performed by Long Beach Heating and A/C. I felt the quote was fair and the installation was completed as scheduled. They helped me choose a system that would qualify for the $1500 tax benefit and provided me with the necessary paperwork. They also made sure that the new installation passed inspection with two visits by installation supervisors. This was a great value to me in that I would not need to spend additional time with another repair visit and schedule another inspection. It is refreshing to have a service company meet budget, installation and inspection all as planned.

I have no idea if this is a good price for what we needed or not. I just trusted the report that was on "Angie's list." Sean was extremely helpful. A mistake was made on the installation of the thermostat. They corrected it when brought to their attention. They were on time, business like and very careful in installation. I would highly recommend this company. The reason I didn't give them a high mark on price is that really don't know if this was a good one or not.

They were good and polite but I thought the price was high. I called them and they were there the next day. They were very responsive and nice. I was satisfied with everything but the price. The price might have been the going rate but I am not sure.

Tom the owner came out the same day as our call. Started out very promising as we were in a hurry. He came and took a quick at our heating/air system (which was run very improperly by the previous owners) and agreed that it was a "c***" home job and that his company "wouldn't touch that c*** work." "They didn't want their name on it." When I tried to ask him what needed to be done specifically to help us understand the problem more he said "he wasn't going to get into it" "it was Friday night and he was going to dinner." He suggested we ask the next guy that was going to come in and do the work. So much for second opinions! On top of all this rudeness and unprofessionalism he insulted our contractor and the guys working on our remodel saying "just walking back there gave me bad vibes looking at the work." What a pompous a**! The guy seemed knowledgable, probably, but his attitude and lack of filter was so off-putting, we would not have chosen to work with him even if he had offered to do the work. Which again, he did not because "they were too busy to take on a job like this." Will not be recommending this company to anyone.

"First the report is from the member's wife. The member and i had a good talk over his job. Wife said she needed some one today to come if we wanted the work which i did. Wife told me they had 2 ton system, this is what her contractor told her, not so is a 4 ton system. Wife also told me not to talk in front of her contractor about any of the job which i did not. I asked to look at the furnace in the attic, waited patiently for them to remove all the belongings, then put my head up and saw a system that was never permitted and needed a lot of work. Told them i would not touch the job and if i did then i own it which i would not do. Wife asked me to explain all the problems and i told her a few things but i was never told and asked to be consultant and never talked about using my 32 years in business to help the next contractor out after me since i was not doing the job anyway. Yes at this time it was 7:30 and i did tell the members i was going to take my wife to dinner and i was out of there. I would love any Angie's List potential customers to please call me and we can discuss this issue. Long Beach Heating has been doing business for over 52 years and i have been with the company for 31 years, but as we all know working with the public you can not keep everyone happy even though we all try. I do understand she wanted more answers and she is frustrated by her contractor, but i do not feel it is my responsibility to answer questions about a job i was not going to do anyway and she was very persistent in her asking of questions and i know she was frustrated that i would not answer her back. We do have the right to refuse to do work for people and i do take it personally when the public can write in a form what transpired, a lot of what went on was do to the way her job was going. I do though appreciate the way we can respond to allegations for all to see our point of view as contractors. I do have a saying in my office that it takes 10 good customers to make up for 1 bad one, that is why we try to keep everyone as a good customer. This job was just an estimate. can you imagine what would of happened if i did get the job? THANK YOU TOM WHITE,PRES"

Jim and another guy showed up on time and got right to work as they said they would. Jim had been out the week before and we talked about what needed to be done. Our AC was put in 15 year before and the cooper lines had been run outside the house, down the wall from the attic to the AC unit, very unsightly. It was also in the way of storage. We are getting the roof and the wall where wide open so is seemed like the perfect time to get that inside the wall. Jim walked us through what he would do before he got there so when he showed up he got right to work and was done by mid day. They made sure the lines where all up high out of our way in the attic so we could use the space for stuff later. It all looks good!

I got a second opinion from another company and he said the UV heat disintegrating the duct work sounded like something out of Star Wars. He just had to re-tape the one duct down and it now works fine and that the duct work did not need to be replaced and charged me $75. Long Beach Heating and Air company had stated that they were going to send me a proposal in the mail, which I have never received regarding the replacement of all duct work in addition to the kitchen duct.
