After initially calling to schedule a 8 AM appointment, contractor called me back at my office to ask for a 9-10 AM appointment, which I agreed to. In both the initial call and the call to reschedule, the receptionist for Byers and Butler (and quot;Band Band quot;) told me that someone would call me 30 minutes in advance of my appointment to let me know they were on their way. Then, on the day of the appointment, Band B called and left a message at my office, which, of course, I did not receive, because I was at home waiting for their visit. Since Band B did not reach me at my office, they canceled the appointment and did not show. When I finally got the message and called Band B, the receptionist Sherry did not apologize but instead insisted that being told I would get a 30 minute notice of the salesperson's arrival was the same thing as being told that if I was not there to receive the call that they would cancel the appointment (i.e. so the cancellation was my fault). I was not pleased, but said I was wiling to reschedule the appointment for the next day since I was already scheduled to meet with another contractor at 10 AM. I specifically gave Sherry my home phone number to avoid another mix-up.
The next day, I did not get a call at home by 9:30 AM, so I called Band B again. Sherry had went on vacation, and I learned that and quot;Roband quot;, who was supposed to handle the appointment, had called my office (not my home, as I had instructed less than 24 hours earlier). The new receptionist said she would call Rob and give him my phone number. Shortly thereafter I got a call from Rob that said he wasn't going to show up because Culver City was too far from their main area and that I could and quot;find someone else in LA.and quot; A little while later, I called the main office back to complain to the owner or president of the company about conduct of Band B's employees, only to be told that and quot;Roband quot; was the head of the company.
As a result of my experience, I wasted parts of two different mornings waiting for someone to show up, only to be told I was too far away--something they should have told me when I first called to schedule an appointment. I would never use Band B and would not recommend them to anyone.
Brad from Byers and Butler had come out and given me an estimate on installing a motor for the slide gate at the house. The metal gate could be opened manually, but there appeared to have been a motor at one time for this gate. The electrical line had already been installed at some point so only needed a new motor/chain to automate the opening/closing of the gate mechanism. I had gotten a few estimates for this work, this area seems to be more specialized as it was difficult to find companies that could perform the work required.
Brad inspected the gate, track and rollers and suggested the particular motor that would be required to automate the gate as well as install a photo eye and setup a dual remote for easy access to both the gate and the garage door. He answered all my questions in regards to the automation of the gate process and I appreciated his candor and professionalism. The installation went smoothly; and he walked me through the entire system once he was finished so that I would understand how the mechanism operates. I am truly excited about having this gate automated and having the convenience of only one remote to control both gate and garage door. I would highly recommend the services of Byers and Butler!
"Thank you (member name removed)for the positive review. It was a privilege to work with you and give you want you needed. Brad"
"We went out to This member's home on January 18th and detected an external interference i.e. satellite dish, wifi, cable or fios etc. was causing him to have short range on his garage door remote. Although we know there is an external interference we cannot do anything about it. Sometimes the interference is not even coming from the customers home but from a neighbors home. The only thing we are able to do is install a new receiver with new remotes at a different frequency. We did not do that on this job, the customer paid our $78 service fee and we left. We never heard from the customer until this report on April 7th. We would be happy to install new radios at the customers home and see if this remedies his problem. Sincerely Rob Hemmings VP/Byers and Butler Inc."
"I WOULD LIKE TO RESPOND TO THIS REPORT. ON NOV. 17TH THE MEMBER CONTACTED OUR COMPANY REGARDING SOME DAMAGED WOOD SECTIONS ON HIS EXISTING GARAGE DOOR. HE SAID HE NEEDED THE SECTIONS CUSTOM MADE TO MATCH HIS EXISTING DOOR AND ANOTHER DOOR HE HAD ON HIS HOME. HE ALSO SENT US AN E-MAIL WITH PICTURES SHOWING THE TWO GARAGE DOORS. OUR SECRETARY CONTACTED HIM AND INFORMED HIM THAT WE DO NOT MAKE CUSTOM WOOD DOORS OR SECTIONS, THAT WE PRIMARILY DEAL IN STEEL GARAGE DOORS AND SOME STANDARD WOOD DOORS. AFTER HAVING EXPLAINED TO THE MEMBER THAT THIS WAS NOT A SERVICE WE PROVIDE, HE CONTINUED TO CALL OR E-MAIL 2 OR 3 MORE TIMES. OUR SECRETARY EVEN GAVE HIM A PHONE # OF ANOTHER WOOD DOOR COMPANY IN LONG BEACH THAT SPECIALIZES IN CUSTOM WOOD DOORS. IN HIS REPORT HE CLAIMS HE NEVER UTILIZED OUR SERVICES YET STATES OUR COST WAS $2000 AND THAT HE PAID TOO MUCH. WE FEEL THAT WE WERE CLEAR IN THAT IT WAS NOT A SERVICE WE PROVIDED, WE ANSWERED ALL OF HIS PHONE CALLS AND E-MAILS AND EVEN REFERRED HIM TO A COMPANY THAT COULD HELP HIM. HIS STATEMENT OF WE DO NOT EVEN DEAL IN RESIDENTIAL DOORS ONLY COMMERCIAL IS FALSE. MOST DOORS WE INSTALL ARE RESIDENTIAL AND WE ALSO DO SOME COMMERCIAL. WE DO TAKE ALL JOBS SERIOUSLY REGARDLESS OF HOW THE CUSTOMER FINDS US. WE HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS 48 YEARS, HAVE NO BBB REPORTS OR MARKS ON OUR CONTRACTORS LICENSE. WE BELIEVE THIS REPORT IS COMPLETELY FALSE, IN THAT WE DID NO WORK FOR HIM NOR CHARGED HIM ANYTHING. WE SIMPLY ANSWERED HIS QUESTIONS AND REFERRED HIM TO ANOTHER COMPANY THAT COULD HELP HIM BETTER. SINCERELY ROB HEMMINGS VP/BYERS AND BUTLER INC."
