Brad from Byers and Butler had come out and given me an estimate on installing a motor for the slide gate at the house. The metal gate could be opened manually, but there appeared to have been a motor at one time for this gate. The electrical line had already been installed at some point so only needed a new motor/chain to automate the opening/closing of the gate mechanism. I had gotten a few estimates for this work, this area seems to be more specialized as it was difficult to find companies that could perform the work required.

Brad inspected the gate, track and rollers and suggested the particular motor that would be required to automate the gate as well as install a photo eye and setup a dual remote for easy access to both the gate and the garage door. He answered all my questions in regards to the automation of the gate process and I appreciated his candor and professionalism. The installation went smoothly; and he walked me through the entire system once he was finished so that I would understand how the mechanism operates. I am truly excited about having this gate automated and having the convenience of only one remote to control both gate and garage door. I would highly recommend the services of Byers and Butler!

Appointment made, appointment kept, door installed, price right--all good.

GATE:
I recently purchased a home w/ a driveway gate opener which I was unsure of whether or not it worked. My gate opener is an eight year old Chamberlain Elite model, missing remotes and a chain. I showed pictures of the unit to a very helpful, professional gentleman (Steve?) @ Byers and Butler and he was able to tell me a lot about it, and we set up an appointment to have it checked out in person.
When the service call happened, the guy checking the gate wasn't a very personable person. That has nothing to do with the work, but I was not glad to have him there to begin with. He found the frequency for the gate opener, tested that it worked, and after having put on a chain to the unit, diagnosed the gears as being out of functioning order, and advised that it could not be repaired. He estimated to install a replacement unit would be $2700.
I HAD A SECOND OPINION FROM A DIFFERENT BUSINESS, AND
this other business replaced the wheels on the tracks of the gate, adjusted the length of opening, and attached a chain. making my gate fully operational within an hour.
GARAGE DOOR:
I was not planning to replace the broken garage door opener, but the guy who checked out my gate said he would waive the $75 service call charge if I set up an appointment to install a garage door opener ($365). I'm a big fan of saving money, so I agreed.
The younger guy that came by was very nice and presentable, and seemed to get the job done well enough.
Within TWO weeks, my garage door opener stopped working. Because it was after 1630HRS (it was 1700HRS), Byers and Butler were already closed, and because they don't have an after hours line or service, I needed to call another garage door specialist so as not to have my garage open all evening. The garage door specialist I found showed me that of 4 wires in the back of the garage door opener (a 1/2 HP Liftmaster), 1 was no longer connected, and the other 3 were not tightened down correctly using the screws they were wrapped around. Looks like the fine detail in the install was missing :/

Byers and Butler came to my house promptly within a week of calling and asking for an estimate on a replacement garage door. My existing wood door was falling apart and my wife no longer felt safe lifting it to open. It was heavy, and I suppose new springs and a motorized garage door opener would have worked, but the paint was peeling on the door and we were in the midst of remodeling the outside of our house, so a new door would that could offer curb appeal was what we were after. I forget the name of the rep. who came for the estimate, but it was a no pressure, no frills estimate. We opted for a steel-back insulated foam core door that would be light, but would provide strength. Often home owners go for the cheapest door and find out that once somebody bounces a ball against it - they have a dent. Do yourself a favor and get a steel back boor that's insulated. You'll add years of life to what otherwise might be a skinny aluminum door painted white. The quote was for $1200 for the options I mentioned with four glass panels. I called about three weeks after the initial quote and scheduled installation for the following week (it takes a couple of days for the door to be ordered if it's not in stock). The installer, Adrian was pleasant, a hard worker and got everything done in about 4 hours. I couldn't believe one man could do everything, including taking the old door away with it strapped down on the top of his truck. The tracks went in clean, the rollers are smooth, the seal is tight, and it's light enough to open that I didn't think it was necessary to get a garage door opener. I'm super-happy with the service and product.

My garage door would not open automatically and the door was too heavy to lift manually - Byers and Butler came the day I called and replaced the springs - one of which had broken completely. The serviceman was efficient and double/triple checked the mechanism before leaving.

Our garage door opener quit working. I called Byers and Butler, they came out the same day. The worker tested out the garage door, it didn’t work from the remote or the push button inside the garage. He fixed the garage door opener, cleaning the ground screw on the circuit board and lubricated the door opener wheels, our once creaky garage door now opens smoothly and quietly from either the remote or the push button.

Emailed BYERS and BUTLER for an estimate. Got back to me the next day.Went back and forth a couple times. Accepted the offer and set up a time and date. Was surprised when they were available to do the work when I wanted them here. The time was between 9 and 12. Showed up just before10 and did the work, cleaned up and left in about an hour. No fuss, efficient, nothing weird. Wish all service companies operated like that. I forgot the workers name but thank you again.

My daughter's garage door needed repair. They came out exactly when they said they would. They repaired the garage door and serviced the door system while they were there. I am completely satisfied with their service and would use them again.

In addition to Angie's list, I got a recommendation from a neighbor. I initially tried to go to their showroom but it is closed on Saturday and going there on weekdays is not convenient. I instead used their website to shop and e-mailed then for approximate price quotes. Responded to my e-mail with the approximate price. When I was ready with my choices, I called for an appointment to get a better estimate and find out the details of what is involved with installing the new door. They gave me an appointment within a 4 hour window with the option to call 30 minutes before arrival. It turned out that I was the first appointment so I didn't have to waste a whole morning waiting. Rob (I think) came out measured the door and answered all my questions about the installation process and my garage door choices. I picked out the garage door and color and he gave me an estimate; also gave me the Angie list discount. I ordered the garage door which arrived within about a week. We arranged an installation date. On the day of the installation, the installer arrive at the appointed time between 8 and 9. He told me the job would take about 4 hours. The installation went smoothly; took a little over 4 hours. He cleaned up after taking the old door and opener with him. Finally, he explained how the garage door opener works and we were done. I am very happy with the entire job; no complaints.

I was having trouble with my garage door sticking and it was not opening more than a few inches when the remote was pressed. I had this happen before and knew that the track most likely needed to be lubricated. Another company came out the day before and told me that I needed a new motor for $700. They wouldn't even perform a simple lubrication to the track to rule out the possibility that this could be the problem. I sent them away and told them no thanks! There was a Byers and Butler sticker on my garage opener motor, probably from the previous owner of my house, so I called them to come out. I live in an area far from where they are located but they agreed to come out the next day. They performed the lubrication and maintenance service and also checked my remote's - to find out that one was not working properly. The door's issue was that the track had not been lubricated in a long time and the recent rains had made it stick, and just as I suspected the motor was fine. I paid $126. for the service of the door which also included a replacement remote, a good deal by my standards. I highly reccomend them, they are courteous, prompt and honest and perform great service.

It went Great.

Very punctual and efficient. Called in the morning, was given a window of 1pm to 4pm, arrived at 1pm that day. Basic service call charge of $78 was very reasonable, but cost of the four springs ($96) is twice the cost I could have bought them for at Home Depot. Also used a $10 Angie's List coupon.

It went very well. I was able to schedule the service call for a convenient time. The technician showed up right on time and called about 15 minutes before getting to my home to let me know he was on his way (very nice touch). The service was completed quickly and at the exact price (plus my coupon) and I was very pleased with the result.

The guy was late by 30 minutes, and was competent, but I think seemed a bit sloppy in his work, but maybe that's just because he's used to doing it. The door opener works, and we'll see how the quality of the installation is over time.

Great service. Both techs were very professional and courteous. It is nice to have a service person show up when they said they would. I highly recommend this company and will use them again in the future.

Getting the estimate was very easy. Brad Cole came to the building to discuss our options and was very knowledgeable and timely. After my HOA decided to move forward, getting the job scheduled was another matter all together. Communication was very difficult. We needed to have a person on-site to let them in to work on the intercom system and I was stood up twice!! I finally delivered the keys to Byer and Butler so they could show up at their convenience. So the job was completed. Overall a frustrating experience. The is our second experience like this with them. They also installed a new garage door system and never scheduled an appointment. They just showed up to do it one day.

The technician came during the window I was given and performed the job quickly and correctly. He was friendly and professional. I did not obtain a quote before the work was performed, so I was a bit surprised that the price was $130 for about a 20 minute repair. But I was happy with the work and would call them again.

Smoothly. Never a question about what this company would do or how much the job would cost. The door they installed in great. They also got another door to work much better to buy us some time on replacing it. We liked all the people we came in contact with, including office personnel. This is a quality operation. They are not the cheapest but they are the best we have found for the price. No hassles. Good work.

THE TECHNICIAN WAS FRIENDLY, FAST AND WAS A PERFECTIONIST. THE PRICE WAS REASONABLE. IT BEATS PAYING $400 FOR A NEW GARAGE DOOR. THE WORK WAS GREAT.

THE PEOPLE WHO DID THE WORK WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND VERY CLEAN. THEY CLEANED UP NICELY AFTER THEY WERE FINISHED WITH THEIR JOB. THEY GAVE ME A CAN OF LUBRICANT FOR THE GARAGE DOOR.

THEY ARE EXCELLENT. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES, AND THE PERSONNEL ARE VERY ACCOMMODATING. THEY ARE VERY PATIENT. THEY GAVE THE INFORMATION THAT I NEEDED. THEY ARE VERY CLEAR, AND THE GUY WHO CAME HERE SEEMS TO KNOW VERY WELL WHAT HE IS DOING. HE WAS ABLE TO DO IT REAL FAST. I WAS TALKING TO HIM AND ASKING HIM QUESTIONS, AND HE WAS ABLE TO ANSWER THEM.

THEY WERE EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL, THEY WERE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE JOB THEY DID FOR US. THEY WERE VERY PROMPT AND VERY COURTEOUS WITH US. THEY CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES. WE WERE VERY IMPRESSED WITH THEIR WORK. WE LIKED THE FACT THAT THEY NOT ONLY CLEANED UP BEFORE LEAVING THEY EVEN SWEPT UP ALSO.
