Con Hart redwood was recommended by Kenwood Lumber employees for the specific job of replacing old deck boards. I was told by Kenwood that the Con Hart redwood was what everyone uses for decks. I was also told it should hold up for 20 years or more. Boards were delivered in December 2013. Some boards were rejected due to inconsistant moisture and were replaced by Kenwood. By May 2014 (5 months from purchase) many boards were cracking and splintering some all the way through. I contacted Kenwood Lumber and they requested I sent photos. I sent the photos right away and was told by the employee I was working with that this was definitely not normal and that they had other issues with the Con Hart Redwood recently. I was told that she would show the owner the photos and get back to me right away. Almost a month later no one had returned my call. I again contacted the employee that I previously spoke to and she seemed frustrated and was going to have the owner contact me. After several more calls to Kenwood I was given the owners phone number. When I finally spoke with the owner Rick he said it was not his issue because his employees did not install the boards. I requested that the damaged boards be replaced and I would pay for the labor again myself. I was told that they do NOT inspect the wood they sell and deliver. Just to be clear Rick agreed that this was not an installation issue, he insisted that hairline cracks must have been there and his installers would have noticed. The deck looked amazing when it was completed but over the summer it has continued to crack and splinter. The bottom line is that Kenwood Lumber does NOT stand behind the product they sell and we are stuck with deck that is unsafe.
