VCA Vets & Pets Animal Hospital

I have 4 cats who have all been visiting this VCA clinic (on El Camino) since I adopted them. The main reason I chose this clinic was because of the convenient location (none of my cats enjoy car travel so I wanted to make sure their vet was as close as possible!), but I was impressed enough with the quality of service to keep going back. There are several different vets at this clinic but the one my cats saw this last time (and at least one occasion previously) was Dr. Lem-White, who is frankly pretty awesome. She has 2 cats of her own at home and you can tell she's not one of those people who consider cats to be and quot;the other petand quot;. She always treats my cats with respect. The other vets I've seen there have all been good too but I can't remember all their names -- suffice to say I've never had a doctor there I would not trust with my kitties. The techs can vary somewhat and occasionally seem a bit distracted but are fine overall.
I should note that in this clinic the general procedure for things like shots and blood tests is to take the animals into a back area where their guardians can't watch. Initially this made me very nervous but it was explained to me that the reason for this was so the animals didn't associate their human with the unpleasant process of getting an injection, which does make sense. Still, if you are someone who prefers to be with your animal at all times you might want to try a different clinic. I might ask to watch next time and see what they say, because my little girl cat apparently struggled so much during a blood draw that they briefly had to bandage her afterward and she might have been calmer if I was there.
Anyway, though, this last visit went great and I had a wonderful discussion with Dr. Lem-White about feline nutrition. There is a rather annoying preponderance of products from a certain pet food company which shall remain nameless in the lobby, but none of the doctors there have ever been pushy about trying to make me buy those products. My younger cats eat a largely raw diet and I was not given a hard time about this (the Dr. complimented my kitties on their beautiful clean teeth, even), so if you want a raw-friendly vet who isn't simultaneously into woo-woo anti-science nonsense you might want to try this clinic. OH and if you want, the doctors here will even email you PDFs of your pets' blood test results. Dr. Lem-White did this for me last time and it was fascinating to look at the numbers.
Finally, I should note another awesome thing about this clinic: they are open on Saturdays! My partner and I both work full time so this makes it very easy for us to be able to bring the cats in as needed without missing work. The pricing seems a bit on the high side and the and quot;recommendedand quot; appointment schedule seems like it could be overdoing it a bit for cats who are generally healthy, but they're definitely flexible and adaptable to your needs if you make sure and bring them up. Overall I was pleasantly surprised with this clinic when I first went given I was expecting something a lot more and quot;assembly lineand quot;-like and I have been happy with all the service my cats have received there.

They are very friendly, and it's a great place. I have to go back to them for another vaccination for my dog. Our vet recommended us to go there because they were cheaper than others. They have a local business, and their price is good. They have a good, very healthy selection of dog food that we don't find at the Safeway or other places. I would use them again in the future.

They treat our animals really well, we've been using them for several years. Their care is good and they have kenneling services so we sometimes kennel our pets there. They can usually see us spur of the moment. Everyone is super friendly, they just love animals and it's nice to work with them. We were last there with our dog who got hurt so we have weekly visits with them to check her bandage.

I have a 5 month old puppy who is our first pet. I had gone to a different clinic for vaccines but was looking for a vet I would be more comfortable with. I live in Santa Clara and there are dozens of vets to choose from. I found a free first exam coupon for this facility which was very close to home and made an appointment the same day. Office staff was very courteous. We did have to wait in the exam room for 10 minutes or so after the assistant did the initial exam of weight and temperature, but I liked Dr Veit very much. She was gentle with my puppy and thorough. My dog had been experiencing redness and discharge from one eye. The puppy was taken to a procedure room where they found and removed a foxtail. The doctor recommended an exam with use of a dye to check for corneal abrasion which I declined. She prescribed and dispensed an antibiotic ointment, and recommended a return appointment in one week. We discussed flea control as our previous use of Revolution was not effective for a full month. She quoted prices for a year's supply of Frontline Plus. Hesitant to purchase a full year's supply, I was told one month's dose would be $18. I agreed to purchase a full year of Interceptor but I was feeling uncomfortable because I hadn't researched the product. When I paid at the desk I was disappointed to find the Frontline Plus was $23.39 with tax. I was however, very impressed that I was charged only $20 for the foxtail removal. My statement indicated that a Re-exam in 7 days was $0. After a week my dog's eye was without redness or discharge. As an RN, I felt comfortable that her eye was healing well but decided to take her in since the re-exam was free,. After the doctor looked at her eye and said all looked good, I was shocked to be billed $49 for this return visit! I paid the bill so as not to argue with the staff person at the desk. She told me that other clients had also been confused and they were trying fix how the invoice was written. The next day I called the Hospital Manager, Erika, and she was very responsive. She listened to me and stated she understood how the invoice was misleading. She gave me a refund. She also encouraged me to be upfront with the doctors about not wanting tests that weren't absolutely necessary, explaining the vets were required to offer all tests and treatments which might be helpful.

I like this place because they are very personable and very courteous. The front desk staff is wonderful and they are all very pleasant. They are good about offering discounts for repeat visits and they make sure the pets get exercise daily when using their boarding services.
