George and the Handyman Connection team did a great job. We had to coordinate neighbor, insurance and other complications. The job was done well, on time and cleaned up nicely. I would strongly recommend them for any household jobs.

This report is about Orange County (CA) Handyman Connection, specifically about work done by Mark Martino. The job was to replace a door that people walk through leading from inside my garage out to my backyard. I called Handyman Connection on 05/16/2016, and we agreed they would send a handyman out to my house on 05/18/2016 at 10:00 a.m. That morning they sent me a photo of Mark so I would recognize him when he arrived, and he came to the house right on time. He gave me a firm estimate of the job, and he was prepared to replace the door that day, but he was having a little trouble finding exactly the proper door at local hardware stores, and we agreed that he should return on 05/20/2016 with the door to do the job. He showed up exactly as we had agreed and did everything in about 3 hours, and I was well satisfied with the entire transaction. The price was higher than I had initially hoped it would be, but I knew that up front, and I would definitely go back to Handyman Connection and ask for Mark for my next job.

The work was done on two separate days. The first worker dealt with fixing the bedroom wall light fixture. He was able to rewire the fixture so we didn't have to replace it. He suggested that a second person could better advise me on the plumbing issues and set up another date. The second worker replaced the instant hot water under our kitchen sink and also replaced a broken 8' flourescent fixture in our garage. Each worker was professional, courteous and neat.

The pros of the experience: --clear Web site --the company responded quickly by phone (over the weekend) to my emailed service request and arranged an appt for the following business day (Monday) --they followed up their phone call with an immediate email confirming the appt time and sending a photo of the worker who'd be coming, with more info on his background --half-hour window for ETA is a good-size window; doesn't keep you trapped "on call" for a long time --they tell you ahead of time that the worker will phone within a half-hour of arriving, which he did --worker was very prompt, efficient and personable --he did a good job with the 2 most pressing fixes I needed, for my fence and dishwasher --he also gave me some good DIY advice on my rattling patio door and nearby sliding window, which will save me money in the long run --he didn't try to shine me on about his own expertise, telling me that he wasn't their carpentry specialist (that was in response to me describing a couple of small, future projects involving some improvements to the kitchen) --the cons: the only downside to Handyman Connection, in my one experience, was the price; they have a minimum job price of about 100 dollars. So, if you have a small, uncomplicated job, you might want to hire someone else or try doing it yourself or with a pal's help. I lacked the tools for some of the work and was dealing with a bit of a time crunch, so I had pretty much made up my mind to shell out. If the fence weren't in such bad shape, I'd probably have postponed the job to go with a less expensive outfit. (the flip side to this is that I realize a business of their size obviously has expenses they need to cover, in terms of labor, insurance, operating expenses, etc.; that's all totally understandable. Still, for my budget, for a simple job, I think I'll make more of a point to either shop around more or be better about buying my own tools and doing some of the simpler DIY things myself) P.S. be sure to look on their Web site and other sites for a first-time user's discount coupon; I didn't notice or recall that before I paid, so I wound up paying about $20 more than I would've otherwise

I couldn’t get the plumber to come out so I called them instead. I got a flyer in the mail that said they did handyman services. They came right out, gave me an estimate, and did the work the next day.

We found them a little bit expensive. One of the guys who they sent we did not find particularly skilled. The whole job was a bit of a drama. He got the job done, but I think it could have been done in half the time and I think it could have been done a bit more professionally. I don't remember how much we spent on their services. Personally I wouldn't use them again. That was how the service went. It wasn't supposedly a bad experience but the gut reaction was that there was somebody better out there. He just complained about the brand of faucet I chose to replace it with. I picked a German brand which was a lot more solid. It was more expensive and it was a little bit more intricate and he was not happy. They came very quickly. They did everything they said they would do. The guy was not physically professional. He was grumbling about the material and so on just to put a faucet on. They were using a retired person and that was it.

I spent around $2000 on them. I would not recommend them. I didn’t have a good experience with them. The people were nice, but the quality of work wasn’t good. They were not very competent. I will not use them again in the future.

This was a simple repair and paint job, which was performed to our satisfaction. The Handyman Connection was responsive and quick to identify someone to meet our needs. Bruce did a good job on the garage door and was able to repair the utility door, saving a substantial amount of money versus a full replacement. Although completely satisfied with the work, they are not cheap. We needed this work done quickly and professionally, which I would say we accomplished, but at a fairly high price.
Response from Handyman Connection of Mountain View
"The actual price paid was $870 for our labor and our records indicate that Bruce was on the job for 11 hours which comes out to about $80.00 per hour which we know is very competitive with any licensed contractor in our area. It is always possible to get a lower bid, the question is will you get the service and guarantee our company offers."

Bruce arrived on time and was very professional and friendly. The fence he built for me was not only functional but beautiful. It definitely exceeded my expectations. He was very knowledgeable about all the projects I had and made suggestions where appropriate. He was very detailed in his work and always cleaned up afterwards. After I gave them a down payment, there was no hassle about money until the job was done. Very reliable company.
