"This is our only bad review on any social media sites. This install was actually from 2006, which we and every other sub contractor were not allowed to finish. Interesting to see a negative review show up eight years later. We are here to help and do a great job for everyone in our community that's is willing start, finish and pay for there project."
Once the install date was set, they showed up on time and went to work. The installers, William's brother and another worker completed most of the work over two days. They installed the unit outside, removed ducting, ran cooling lines and installed the coil inside. They also recommended using a pump, to pump the condensate outside, by the HVAC unit. They did not dig a required condensate drain pit as part of the install.
I was concerned about the noise from the condensate pump as it was in the hall closet. The pump was quiet until it got to the bottom of the tank and then it made a loud slurping sound. It took quite a while, couple weeks, and several attempts to contact William, before I contacted the main office (his mother runs office) before William came and removed the pump and connected to an inside drain line I had a plumber install for it.
I had a few companies provide me estimates but I was referred to Urso Air Systems and directly to Will Urso by my real estate agent. She has used him in the past many times and said that Will was straight forward, honest and his prices were decent and his services were great. So I already had a high expectation going in.
Will was able to accomodate my schedule to come over in the evening after work to walk through the house. Will spent an hour explaining what he saw with my current system, what he thought should be replaced and his recommendations. He was honest and provided different options of condensor systems. We talked a little bit about moving my unit over to the side of the house and going with a European style horizontal condenser system but he was honest and said that it would be nice but would add a lot of cost, the unit itself although very slim won't have the same rating in efficiencies with other units.
He was frank and said that a higher energy efficient, traditional vertical system, might be quiet enough that it wouldn't bother us and quiet enough to have parties outside. In the end, he said moving the AC unil wouldn't add much more property value but spending the money into a higher efficiency unit will save energy cost.
We looked at the furance unit and we talked about replacing the unit or not. Again, Will was straight forward and said that the unit was old, definitely not broken, but from a stand point of being able to save cost overall, he already has to take the condensers out and at that point, switching the furnace would be easier.
We discussed all the options and I asked him to send me an e-mail with the base work with options. He had verbally provide some numbers of the cost, and in my head I had assume that was mostly just the material and parts cost. When I finally got the quote, the price of the base work and options were pretty much what he had said verbally. I was surprised of the overall cost to put in the new AC system, new duct work, new furance and new thermostat versus other contractors who provided me quote. The other contractors were more than 50% more expensive than Urso Air Systems. When talking with the other contractors, their selling point was the brand. They stated that Carrier was a much better system than York.
I did some research online and never really found any complaints about how much more inferior York was.
After agreeing on installing the system on 9/15 back in late August, a few days later our AC system finally died. The compressor itself was leaking refrigerant and oil. I immediately called Will to see if he could come install the AC system sooner since I had a newborn at home and a wife who was just healing from giving birth with temperatures outside reach 95F. Will tried his hardest to squeeze me in earlier but the earliest he could do was 9/4. He did however offer to show up to the house one day to see if he could fix it. He said he could definitely fix but the job would require welding and recharging of the lines. The old refrigerant was not eco friendly and expensive. It would have totalled to $400. He recommended that if I could wait out, it's best to save the money. I ended up buying a portable AC for one room where my baby and wife could just hang out in. That was probably a much better investment of the $400 for something I could use in the future.
When the installation date came, not only was Will and his crew on time, they were early. Because Will knew we had a newborn, he told the crew that this job had to be done in one day. It sounded like sometimes a job of this magnitude, they would take 2 days but he understood our needs and had his team work a long day to get it done.
The crew themselves were very polite and considerate of the fact that we had a newborn. They did their best to lay down tarp to protect our floors. Being an engineer, I had a lot of questions as they were doing the install and they were patient enough to answer all my questions. When they cut the ducting, they did a good job of minimizing all the dry wall dust as they sawed the hole. When installing the furnace, they were putting a larger unit than the original from a ducting size. I asked one of the two crew members if the whole for the intake was too small where the furance was going to sit. He said it would be okay, but could get a better air flow if he could open it up. He took a look at it and said he could definitely do it and asked if I wanted to. I said yes sure if it's not too much trouble. He did it with no issues. I never really knew if that was part of the service or it was extra, but I was never billed for more.
After everything was installed, the crew did a good job in cleaning up their mess, vacuuming in all the areas that they had my dust. Will Urso came back at the end of the installation to do a walk through to make sure everything was completed. He made adjustments to the system, added more R410 and walk me through the thermostat.
All in all I was very happy with the work. Will Urso was always responsive and his prices were very competitive. His crew, only two guys for this job, did a lot in one day, were nice, polite and respectful. I would absolutely recommend my family and friends to use Urso Air Systems for maintainence work or installing a new system. I would definitely use him again, assuming I'm at this house in 10 years.
