What a great experience! We purchased a 1926 single-story Spanish-style house that had two old alarm systems tangled about the basement and ancient components located throughout the house. Nothing worked and with such a spread out floor plan we felt having a new, fully-functional alarm system was key to our comfort in the new house.
We researched many options, including installing the system ourselves which we had done in our previous home, and interviewed several companies. Phil, the owner of San Marino Security and a retired Sergeant from the San Marino Police Dept., personally came out to inspect our situation and consult with us about the best approach to take with our property. His recommendations were spot-on and also took into consideration the aesthetics we were trying to maintain with a somewhat historic building site.
Ours was a BIG job, with 2 keypads and nearly 30 hardwired door/window sensors having to be installed, as well as motion, glass break, smoke and heat detectors, and 2 sirens. The entire project took 2 days, was done very neatly and cleanly, and ultimately cost $3,800 (which was mid-range of all the estimates we received - not the lowest, but not the highest).
Regarding cost, keep in mind that until a project is actually complete you don't necessarily know what the final cost is going to be, so for all we know the other slightly lower estimates we received could have ultimately cost as much if not more than ours did. Something else to consider is that a security system is an investment in your property and, when done correctly, will add value to your home as well as your piece-of-mind. Now, whenever we go away or secure the system at night, our thought isn't and quot;Jeez that cost a lotand quot; but rather and quot;We're SO glad we made that investment!and quot; Trust us, it's worth it.
Several things stood out with San Marino Security vs. the other companies that convinced us to go with them:
- NO LONG-TERM CONTRACT (bigger companies often entice homeowners with promises of a and quot;free security system installedand quot; but only the fine print explains that the and quot;systemand quot; consists of very minimal components and a long-term, i.e. 2-3 year, contract that turns out to be very pricey);
- 5-YEAR WARRANTY on all parts when using their monitoring;
- NO CHARGE FOR SERVICE CALLS (this can save you a bundle if your system requires servicing);
- Very responsive to service requests (they want your system operating flawlessly and can usually get a technician out within a day or two if they're busy);
- Reasonable monthly fee ($30.25/mo. if the year is paid for in one installment, otherwise $33/mo. - remember, having them do the monitoring also gets you the 5-year warranty and there is real value to that);
- Excellent customer service (we needed help changing some features on our keypads and their office gladly walked us through the programming steps);
- Free lawn signs (some companies charge you for the privilege of advertising their company!)
Overall, we were very pleased with our experience with San Marino Security Systems and can see why so many of our immediate neighbors and other properties throughout the area work with them. We would gladly and confidently recommend them to anyone in their service area.
