where the pavers were to be placed. Their crew was punctual and
friendly. The pavers were installed quickly and professionally, along
with a seating wall. A drain pipe from the back yard was extended to a
hole in the curb they core drilled. The end result looks great, and
neighbors have commented on how nice it looks
I sent the plans to the salesperson electronically. He never responded. I emailed him again, at which point he replied and said he was having email problems. About a week later, he emailed me and said he could get the whole job (minus some concrete walls) done for $47k. I asked for a detailed breakdown and asked if this included BBQ, Firepit, LED Low Voltage lights, etc. . . I also informed him the plans had changed due to the addition of a pool, but the paver sqft was mostly the same. He said we should sit down to go over the bid. Unfortunately, it took over 10 days for his schedule to get free enough to meet. Even then, he gave me a day he could meet, but didn't reply to emails asking to confirm the time. . . then he changed the day he could meet after I had taken time off for the appt.
Finally we got a chance to sit down. The sales person arrived late (but he did call to tell me he was running behind). He then went through all the same numbers I had previously given him. Essentially, he was working the bid right there. Then he started to nickel and dime the project for curve cuts, upgraded pavers, etc. When it was all said and done, he wanted approx $41k for just the back.yard (despite emailing me a bid of $47k for the whole project includeing over 1700 more sqft of pavers in the front) Our meeting ended early because he was late and I had another appt. Then, and this part kills me, he emailed me saying his Boss had authorized him to go down to $39,995. I felt like I was at a car dealership where the salesperson pretends his boss is the bad guy.
All said and done, don't waste your time. You will spend weeks chasing these guys for a bid, get a highball offer, and then the used car routine when you send the salesperson packing!
The work began on time and workers were diligent and efficient. The work was delayed in the middle since the wrong color pavers were initially delivered. Aside from that work went smoothly and the whole process took just over one week including the delay.
Aside from the naseating sales process, there were two issues I was disappointed with. First, the retaining wall was drawn up quickly by the sales person and quite frankly never double checked by anyone else. As work was underway I quickly realized that the wall would be too tall for the hillside and partially block our patio view. The wall is a 8 inches too high ( a row of cinder blocks) and frankly a bit of an eye sore but I'm glad I limited the damage to that. A little extra care or a double-check of measurements once work began could have avoided all this. But I feel this company is all about the sale and cranking out the work. Overall the quality of work is good but attention to detail is lacking. The second issue was minor but involved the removal of landscape lava rock. They removed some but as I re-lanscaped I found that they merely covered much of it dirt. I wasn't reimbursed for either item but not that I expected it. I want people to be paid for work but I expect attention to detail and felt it was a little lacking.
Would I consider using them again? Maybe. If the price is competitive I might but would honestly prefer a less corporate attitude with attention to detail.
Last mention, the grit/sand in between the pavers takes longer than the two weeks they say it will remain. Plan on 2-4 months unless you seal which is expensive. Also, don't let the grit/sand get inside as it will easily scratch hardwood floors.
"Thank you for taking your time to review System Pavers on Angie's List. I'm not sure if anyone's contacted you yet. Could you please call or email me here at corporate so I can understand your situation. -Josue Cortes t. 949-263-8300 e. [email protected]"
