ESTIMATE: After I contacted Dunrite, I arranged a time for Mike to come the following day for the estimate. Mike was prompt and thorough. I told Mike I had one more HVAC company I wanted to get an estimate from and that I would contact him within a week with my decision. Of the three HVAC companies I contacted, Mike ended up providing the best price, so we set up a time the following week for the installation. INSTALLATION: Mike's crew came on time. However, the day began inauspiciously, as they brought the wrong AC unit. I joked with them that I would be happy if they installed that one (as it was the more expensive model). Anyway, they had to pack that unit back into the truck and go back to the warehouse to fetch the proper model. This added probably about 1.5 hours to the elapsed installation time. Other than that, everything else went very smoothly. I asked one of the crew members if they could inspect my existing ductwork to ensure that the previous HVAC company that came out during my house remodel did a good job or not. He obliged, and happily, he declared the existing ductwork was done properly. (This could have been an opportunity for dishonest companies to declare the existing ductwork was insufficient and make some extra money, so I appreciated the crew member's assessment.) They finished the job in little over half a day. FINISHED PRODUCT: The AC works great. Parts of the house doesn't cool as well, but it is a function of where the AC unit (and heater) is installed, which can't be helped without a lot of money to move the existing heater (and all this was explained to me up front). I generally don't use AC that much, so I don't expect it to have any maintenance issues for quite some time. If/when that time comes, I won't hesitate to go back to Dunrite for servicing.
Description of Work: Install and connect new AC unit. (Ductwork was already prepped for AC during previous home remodel.)

After wasting my time with another company in terms of getting an estimate for replacement of my air conditioner, I called several places to get a ball park idea of what it was going to cost me. Yeah the estimates might be free but my time isnt, so I wanted to speak with some folks before I had them come out and we both potentially waste our time. Mike understood my situation and was glad to give me an idea (Wrigley Field or Yankee Park). After asking me a series of questions he told me what he thought would be the higest cost without looking at the house and the existing system. It was clear he was interested in the business and offered to come by my place later in the day if I chose and after I had gotten other estimates, he'd check back with me after the job he was doing. Sure enough he did call me later in the day and I had him come by. He was courteous and professional and gave me a final quote right there. I had one other vendor that was to call me back so I told him I'd give him a call in the next week and we left it there. I did end up calling him back and mentioned that not only did I want him to do the air unit, but I also had been trying to find someone to help me fix the air flow in the house. Tons of air would come out vents for the livingroom and kitchen but little in the bedrooms. He understood that I wanted to get a total cost estimate before I could commit and so he sent Jesse and Josh my way. They were great, they called me first to find out if the time was convenient, and got to my house when they said they would. They figured out what happen when the furnace was first installed and after consulting with Mike, determined that to fix the problem would be about $600. We scheduled the work for the following week and they again arrived on time and did a great job. They cleaned up after themselves and there were no surprises during the installation or fixing the air flow issue. I'd recommend them and will make sure they keep my current units (furnace and air) in good order.

When I started this I wasn't sure what I wanted/needed to do. I just knew I needed to do something - I had an old furnace, a super-old water heater and no AC with summer around the corner. Since my furnace appeared to be working, I was hoping to just add the AC and maybe replace the water heater. When I called Dunrite, Mike, the owner, picked up and we scheduled an appointment at my house for next day. I also called another contractor who would come later on the same day to give me his quote. Mike did much better job when determining the scope of work. He got on the phone with 2 hvac distributors to confirm what kind of AC would be appropriate for my old furnace. Based on the size of the house it was easy to assume that my furnace would match up with a 3-ton AC unit (which is what the second contractor did). But after making those phone calls Mike found out that my old furnace could only handle a 2-ton AC so it had to be replaced in order to be able to install a proper AC for my house. Last but not least, Mike also gave me a better price. This was on a Friday and on Tuesday of the following week 2 installers from Dunrite came on time and were able to do most of the work in one day. They finished up next morning. Both were very professional and knew exactly what they were doing. Everything went smoothly - removing old and installing new equipment, electrical work in the subspace and outside the house, work in the attic, etc. There were now extra charges of any kind after the job was done. Needless to say I'm highly satisfied.

Replaced 33-year old furnace and air conditioner. The work was completed efficiently in one day in an orderly manner. The company owner and the installers were helpful, knowledgeable and polite.
Description of Work: The 33-year old air conditioner at my rental townhouse quit working. An A/C serviceman checked it out and found the fan motor had burned out and the system had developed leaks. It was time to replace both the furnace and the air conditioner (both had been installed in 1979 when the townhouses were constructed). The serviceman consulted his supervisor and got me a $5900 quote . I contacted several contractors and provided the same info and specs (equipment type, ratings, etc.) that the serviceman had used as the basis for his quote. The only person who gave me a firm quote on the phone was Michael Wood, the owner of DunRite Heating & Air. He quoted $4500 for competing quality products and came over the next morning to examine the installation site. He was knowledgeable, articulate and explained everything in detail. He found the existing flexible tubing needed to be replaced with copper lines, which increased the cost slightly. He also suggested replacing the air-intake grille so the filter could be replaced from inside the house without having to go to the furnace. I appreciated this suggestion. The installers, Jesse and Josh, came on time and completed the installation in a professional and orderly manner. I am very pleased with the helpful attitude and professionalism of the people of this company and highly recommend them to all in need of heating/air conditioning services.

I contacted DunRite about a week ago and asked for an estimate on installing A/C in our home. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Mike (the owner) was incredibly responsive, detailed, and helpful. As the owner, he was the most vested in ensuring that I receive the right products for our home, and went the extra mile to make calls to be sure about permitting concerns that I had prior to installation. He gave us a price (reasonable compared to other estimates that I had received) and stuck to it. His guys came out a week later and were very detail-oriented about keeping our house clean while the installation was ongoing. WIth the small exception of having to borrow a shovel to dig the drywell, overall, I felt that they were quite professional - they worked very hard, with a smile, and a great attitude in spite of the blazing heat outside that particular day. Once the job was finished, they cleaned up promptly and were out the door with a smile and a handshake. We're are thrilled to have A/C in our home, given the heat wave over the past few days! I highly recommend anyone who wants or needs A/C, give Mike a call - he responds back promptly at just about anytime of day and is a very amicable guy!

Our furnace quit working on January 2nd, which was a brutally cold day - frost in the morning and all. I called about 10 different companies on Angie's before I found DunRite. Nobody else was able to come out the day of. DunRite said that they could come out and take a look later that day. They came and temporarily fixed the furnace until they got the part. We stayed nice and warm that night and they came back today with the part to fix the furnace. Very efficient and wonderful to work with. Highly recommend it.

DunRite saved our Christmas! Mike answered my call personally on a Sunday afternoon. He promised to come out on Monday (which was Christmas Eve!). He called to confirm on Monday morning, said he would be here at 11:00, and showed up promptly at 11 AM. He was able to diagnose the problem quickly, he had the parts needed in his truck, he replaced the blower motor and our heater was in working condition in just about one hour!

Arrived within the promised 2 hour window. Courteous and polite throughout the visit. As with some service calls, the heater interestingly enough decided to start working when they arrived and tested the system. To verify it was blowing at sufficient temperature, they checked the vent temps with a digital thermometer. The price was honest and fair considering a Sunday visit on the same day as the call. I would definitely go to them for my A/C and heating maintenance services, and recommend them. It's pretty hard to find a company that will respond on a Sunday, and it was great to have them respond so quickly.

This is not the first time I have used these guys, they used to be called Day & Night Heating Cooling,, I keep calling them because they are fair, professional and prompt. I had them install a new wall thermostat back in 2006 and I call them for any issues since. They were on time, explained everything including options for a newer unit if I opted to go that route before they began any work. They make you The AC has been running like a charm since, nice and cool even though the unit is 15 years old.I did have them back on 06/10/12 when the unit stopped working, it was only a fuse and they were on their way in 5 minutes.

I called on Wednesday to see if I could schedule for Friday. They offered to come out that afternoon but I wasn't available. We scheduled for a time between 10-12. They called about 9:30 and were there just before 10:00. He checked the furnace and the thermostat, fixed, and tested. He checked my receipt from the purchase, explained what had happened and left with no charge.
Description of Work: They replaced a part that was causing our fan to blow constantly with no heat. Apparently a result of damage caused by air filter being so dirty the air couldn't flow out. (We had purchased the furnace from them in Jan '08 so it was still under warranty, but technically the warranty would have allowed them to charge since the failure happened due to the dirty filter (our fault for not keeping clean)).

They responded immediately when our furnace went out on a cold Saturday in January, 2008. Instead of repairing the furnace, they recommended replacing it with a higher efficiency furnace and a coil so we could later add AC. I told them I wanted a high efficiency heater and wanted to look at a Carrier. We were encouraged to buy a York because they said the parts were easier to get than other brands. They also suggested that we add a coil for the purpose of having AC installed later and that it would be more cost effective to do it now. We agreed to both. At this point we did not know the model # of the furnace. After researching different models on the internet, I called Day & Night. The service tech who made the house call hadn't a clued, he called the installer, who was on his way to our house. Since I couldn't get an answer I cancelled the contract. The owner called back. After a lengthy discussion, he he appologized for the problem and said that if we let them continue with installation and see their work, we could make the decision if we wanted them to do the AC too. It seemed reasonable since they had the opportunity for additional work ,so I said OK to the furnace. Rick installed the furnace and clearly knew what he was doing. Jesse did the duct work and sheet metal and did not know what he was doing. I did not realize what a poor job he did until I recently had my ducts cleaned and it was brought to my attention that the seams did not meet and were covered with tape to hide the gaps. The attachments were not secure and there were large gaps that were not closed or well insulated where the plenum attached to the returns and coil, where the return attached to the air filter and the air filter to the furnace. Not only did this contribute to the inefficiency of the furnace but it explained why my husband got stuffed up the minute he walked into our house, why I couldnt keep the dust off the furniture, and the carpeting around the vents were turning black. All the dust and cold air from the basement (where the furnace is located) was blowing into our house. I was sorely disappointed at the job that was done. Skyline Heating and AC in Mountain View just completed a job to replace and repair all of the improper work that was done by Day & Night. Skyline Heating and AC was recommended to me by a contractor friend and they did a fabulous job.
Description of Work: Installed new upflow York furnace, evaporation case and coil, and thermostat. It included all labor and materials and included a 3 year warranty by Day & Night for 3 years on parts and labor. Additional sheet metal and duct work was required to connect to our existing duct work that was approximately 15 years old. Installed everything two days later. Completed the job in one day.

This was one of the most atrocious experience I had with a service provider. Mike came promptly on time as promised. He was very talkative and took no time in bad-mouthing the other heat and A/C companies in the bay area. He found that the capacitor was bad and got a replacement. He said that my A/C was 10 years old and if he puts a booster along with a new capacitor, it will give another 3-4 years life to the A/C, otherwise I will be in the market soon for a new A/C. After getting the A/C to start, he then very promptly presented a bill of $487.00. I was very surprised and asked him to give me a break-up of the charges between parts and labor. He said that the state laws prevents him from giving an itemized bill, so it is flat rate. However, he said that he is charging $140 for labor and rest for the parts ($347). I told him that he had promised to waive the $70 visitation charge if we got the repair done. He pleaded forgetfulness and reduced the bill to $417. At that point in time, I had no idea how much a capacitor would cost, so I paid him off. Afterwards, when I checked on the internet that the part costs $30, I called him again to ask why he misled me to believe that the part coast 10 times of what it was worth. He got really foul over the phone and shouted abuses on how he has the right to charge anything for the parts. He said that the industry has changed and he is enjoying being paid at the same rate as the doctors in the bay area. Anyway, after going back and forth for about 20 minutes, he agreed to refund $150 if I would keep my mouth shut about it and not go to the BBB or complain to anyone about it. This company has been in business for a long time, but looks like it follows extremely poor and unethical business practices.
Description of Work: On one of hottest summer days in the last couple of weeks, my A/C stopped working and would not start. It turned out to be a bad capacitor that needed replacement.

Anyway, this Mike guy later calls up and shouts at me saying that ''I gave my word'' that I will take a $2500.00 offer. I'm not sure in which world he is living. I cannot believe a person who runs the company can belive a customer will not do comparison shopping and analyze the pros and cons of every offer. On top of it, he was using all four letter words and shouting at me. Till that time, I did not discount this company from selection but, they really showed how much they want my business. I told them to shove it and went with a respectable company. I generally check out a company at bbb.com before even spending time talking to them(which I did not do - and kicked myself for not doing that). It turns out these idiots have ''unsatisfactory record'' and did not address any of the complaints filed by their customers. Angie's list is really helpful in cathing these morons who used to take people for a ride. Hope this helps.
Description of Work: I was shopping around for installing an AC at my place and was enquiring for an estimate from several companies. The owner of this compay is a person by name Mike Wood. First of all, he was very rude on the phone before even giving me a quote(I should have stopped right there). Without even looking at what work needs to be done he gave me an estimate of $2500.00 for a 10SEER unit (- minimum requirement for manufacturing is 13SEER) from a lousy manufacturer (I do not remember the brand). He said, he will not address any issues found during the inspection if he installs (that is a RED flag right away). Anyway, I asked him to first take a look at the work and then give me a quote. One more person from his company came to my home. He was very polite but, he simply repeated like a parrot that it will cost $2500 for a 10SEER unit. By that time, I had take several other quotes from many companies and these guys where no where near the price range others are quoting for an UP and UP job.

This company did an excellent job on installing an air conditioner. The price that they charged was excellent. They did the cheapest work around.
