I called this morning and got scheduled just 1 hour after the call. Surprisingly fast. The technician showed up on time, and he was very friendly and professional. He checked our furnace and found out that the motor stopped working. Further inspection showed that the motor is the type that needs to be oiled but it was never oiled in the past several years. I had no idea about it because I just bought this house, so he taught me some basic knowledge about furnaces. He suggested that we could replace the motor, which would cost $650, or we could get a new furnace which would cost around $3000. I asked if he could get the motor temporarily work again so we can at least wait until the new furnace gets installed, so he tried to clean the motor and add some oil in there. As he put the motor back, it started work again! The noise was still there but much lower. Then I asked him to give us a quote for the new furnace, he kindly suggested different options, and told me about the differences between them. Then, he spent a lot of time measuring around the furnace and vent pipes. His final quote was for a Bryant 66000 BTU furnace, and said if I get the installation service from AAA he'll deduct the service charge for today from the total price. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience with AAA. I paid $120 in service charge and $20 in tips.
Description of Work: 34-year old Furnace started making funny, loud noise and AAA furnace technician came to investigate the problem. It turned out that the motor stopped working due to lack of maintenance, the technician managed to get the motor working again temporarily, and did a detailed measurement/check for a new furnace installation quote.

I called AAA Furnace & Air-conditioning Co. (408-293-4717) for a bid on a replacement of a 28-year-old furnace that was not lighting consistently. Jim Rando, one of the co-owners, was available to come that day. He came and checked out the furnace and explained carefully what was needed and what he could provide and how soon the work could be competed. He offered to repair or replace the furnace. His fair bid included discounts for being a member of Angie?s List and being a senior, as well as a new thermostat and duct fog testing after the installation. His bid was for a XR80 Trane furnace and included the San Jose building permit. What I especially appreciated about him was there was no pressure to "buy now or loose the discounts". After he left my wife and I discussed his visit. She was listening from another room and was as impressed as I was. We called him that we would accept his bid and he arranged to have it installed on Friday of the same week we called. The crew called before arriving at the planned hour. When they came, they covered the floor to protect it during the installation. They did quality work quickly and efficiently. Jim called during the installation to see if things were going right and he dropped by to verify things were going well. The furnace was installed and attached firmly to the wall incase of earthquake. New fittings were put on the gas line and new electrical connections. A new thermostat, with battery backup, was installed which could be set for different temperature ranges for weekdays and weekends. The furnace was installed by 1pm. They left the building permit and explained how to contact San Jose City to come make the final inspection. We were to call them if there was any problems with the inspection. There were no problems with the city inspection. Jim called at the end of the day to ask about how everything went and arranged to come the next week to check out the installation, which he did as promised. Later that same afternoon the fog crew came and checked the furnace and duck work for leaks. We were concerned about the fog, because we have a parrot. They explained that it was stage fog and would be safe for the parrot. They took photos of the areas in the duck work that needed attention showing how the fog was leaking out of the system. They explained that it didn?t seem practical to just try and rewrap and repair the existing duct system due to the amount of missing insulation, rust on the pipe, and leaking seals. While checking the ductwork they even reconnected one of the duct pipes that had come apart underneath the house. They left me a bid for replacing the duck system and would clean out the intake system, which was newer and needed no repair. A previous company has said there was asbestos and would need to be removed by a hazard approved company. The AAA inspector found no asbestos. We have been very happy with the performance of the furnace. We noticed an immediate difference the how the furnace ran and have enjoyed the more even heating of our home.

Had to have major gas line replaced due to corrosion. During inspection for the completed installation, the inspector noticed the improper furnace vents installed by a previous owner. I contacted three companies and AAA had the best price. The work was done quickly and effectively. The technician even returned later to pick up the payment as I was not there at the time the work was completed. I plan to use them for future projects.

When I called AAA services for duct cleaning and checking ducts underneath the house. David Hanasee, the estimator came I explained to him the situation , he spoke to the contractor that I have working on one of my bathrooms that also kindly looked at my ducts, saw few holes, he sealed them and tied few loose ones. He told him they should be totally fine. David reassured me that the $698.00 estimate will include fog test and duct cleaning with disinfecting . if they find few holes it will be just few dollars to seal them.. After showing up 2and half hours late. And after knowing that they had to go in the crawl space they sent a guy 6' 4 inches tall can't fit under there he opens everything up then decides he is too big , he leaves to get someone smaller from the office comes back 2 hrs later not finding any smaller guy, now he decides he can fit. He goes under there perform the test comes up and tells me they have to charge $400 extra to fix holes. lNow the house is all open, there hoses all over the house, weather is called and i really need to clean the duct and get the heater going for my family, called david and reminded him of what he told me, he said ( no really that is the charge and you have to do it and pay the $400). I told the guys to go ahead and do it i had no choice at that time. Bottom line they were there all day in and out at the end ended up with $1098 bill, when they were done I went to open one of the vents to check it the work, it was still dirty with insulation in it, i told them what is that? he said no worries will take care of it. He just picked up the insulation from the vent , brought a small vacuum and vacuumed that vent.. I feel that AAA cheated me , with their estimate and their performance,.

s I had poor air distribution with cold spots in the house. Sales guy came and took a look at my system and offered to replace the unit $7-$8k. Then, on me telling him about a split system which would just rewire ducts he offered to give a quote and collected $120 and left telling me that the $120 would be applied towards a work order if offered one. A couple of days later upon my calling i was offered $2850 for rewiring ducts. The tech came on time and did the work as planned. When it came time for payment he insisted on getting paid $2850 and would not apply $120 paid earlier towards the work order. He then calls the sales and says that the $2850 included the $120 and in actuality the quote was $2970. The first time i ever heard that number. Totally unprofessional. No work order proposal was ever written down with a clear breakdown of costs. That i went ahead with the work is my mistake in hindsight hoping a gentleman's agreement would be sufficient. You learn the hard way. The service tech who did the job was not interested in answering questions either. He kept insisting that all he know is his work order and bill of material and nothing more His response was, if you don't know what you agreed upon, go talk to your sales guy. Upon further insistence he started to explain how things might work. When i inquired whether they would check the performance of the upgrade he said OK, but afterwards was joking as to how stupid i was to request that they check the performance. Totally unprofessional again. All in all, quality of work might be good, will be known in the long run, but other aspects left a lot to be desired.

I called AAA on a Tuesday and advised lady that answered phone that wife or I could get home before 4PM. She said they could come out Saturday between 8AM and 3pm. I asked why such a large window, she answered back that's the way it is. Wife called Friday to see about Monday. She was told the same thing between 8&3 and that's the way it is. I would not recommend this company.

Repair person did a complete evaluation of the nonfunctional heater and determined the problem to be the thermostat. Replaced thermostat, fully cleaned heater and checked for any additional problems. Would use this company again for all heating problems.
Description of Work: Original phone call to office was very professional. They made sure that the problem was not urgent and scheduled an appointment for the following week. On the day of the appointment, when the repair person did not call or arrive at the appointment time, made a call to the office to find out status. An error had been made in the schedule and rather than reschedule they error was corrected and repair person arrived within the hour. I was very impressed with this above and beyond service.

When I made the appointment over the phone, I specifically mentioned that they need to call me at least 30 minutes before arrival so I am able to go home from work. On the service date, they arrived in ~20 minutes after calling me. I told them I was still on the way back and the traffic was bad, and I need 10-15 minutes more to be home. They told me they have more work following this and can't wait for me, and they left. They also refused to come back later on same day after doing the other jobs. They are giving every one 4-hour window of arrival time, I don't understand why they couldn't wait for just 10 minutes, not mentioning they were not calling me 30 minutes ahead. It wasted me 40 minutes on the road for nothing.

The repairman was very courteous, friendly, punctual, and professional. He examined the unit, explained to me what was wrong, repaired it in under an hour, and had the A/C back in working order just in time to weather the brutally hot afternoon. When I mentioned that I was an Angie's List member, he gave me a discount on a protection plan that they offer.

I had originally contacted AAA Furnace by email through angieslist, and received an email reply within a few days suggesting I call the office to schedule the estimate. When I called the office about scheduling, there was some confusion at first that I needed a service call rather than a free estimate so I was told I could have either a morning or afternoon appointment. Once that got cleared up, I was then transferred to someone else who went to check with the estimator for their schedule. When I was called back, she indicated that it would not be possible to commit to a specific appointment time in the morning, but a 1 hour window. Traffic was mentioned several times as an issue with an 8AM appointment, and they could only arrive between 8AM and 9AM. Since I was to be at work by 9AM, I just told her "Thank you, but I think I'll have to go with another company". With that, she hung up on me and my experience was complete. They may be a great company (see the rest of the reviews), but I've never had a contractor/company tell me that they could not make an appointment at a specific time, and I was surprised they were neither willing to propose a solution to get the business, nor able to politely say "Thank you, but I don't think this will work out, have a nice day."

AAA Furnace repaired a furnace at a duplex I own. They replaced a part inside the heater that controls the gas pressure for the heat. The staff was on time and very professional. He checked the rest of the system and the thermastat John was professional and pleasant. He called to let me know just when he would be here and he was on time. I would definately use them again - Even thoug the cost was higher than some others posted, I felt secure in his repair and the few extra $$ were really worth it! Thanks John and AAA furnace !

After setting up an appointment for my yearly cleaning, I was surprised to have KC show up and say it was for free. I had a $400 part replaced about 6months earlier and a free cleaning was their thank you. Not only did he do the normal great clearing AAA has always done before, he wen through an exhaustive effort to explain what parts would fail next, what parts were worth replacing, what failures would justify replacing the entire unit. How long the unit had left. He went though extra steps to test for carbon monoxide, advised me on new places to put sensors etc. Explained everything and was very patient with all my questions. I have always had great service from AAA, I've been using them for about 4yrs. But this visit blew away all others. Could not be more pleased.

The heater in my unit is original and was really meant for a motor home! Apparently, there are many complexes that have the same heater unit. These heaters are just not efficient or effective and Monte was able to explain the reason that these heaters are inefficient. Monte was gave me excellent advice on it and said that if I ever need service on it, AAA can (if they can get the parts) service my heater. I highly recommend this company and Monte!Thank you, Monte!
