While I prefer to be able to contact my service providers by email or a reception service ... Sunset Concrete doesn't have these and quot;frillsand quot;: Just great work at a surprisingly good price. In other words... excellent value.
I think Mark's voicemail box was full or not working properly, but it did not take much phone tag to get a quick, honest, no-nonsense quote faxed over.
It took another couple of calls to clarify the scope of the job, (even though I emailed back the signed quote as approval) and the dates. He's a busy guy, but it isn't too hard to firm up the contract.
He took care of our permits and started work before the originally estimated date. Slightly odd, perhaps and quot;unprofessionaland quot; by definition? On the other hand: The quality of the work is outstanding: Professionalism where it counts! The crew is skilled and attentive to detail.
Very few concrete contractors follow the DPW codes to the letter -- I looked up these overly complicated requirements. The real test of reliability is how quickly the contractor obtains permits and then instant approval of the completed work. Sunset Concrete met my high quality standards.

I highly recommend Sunset Concrete. Marc knows what he is talking about and how to work with the city. When Marc gave me the estimate, he was able to explain what the notice from the city meant as well as how to talk to the inspector about some work that the city wanted me to do that he thought was unecessary. With this knowledge, I was able to get the city to amend the permit and bring the cost of the work down. Marc's guys did the work efficiently and well. My sidewalk looks better than the sidewalks in front of other houses. The overall cost was also less than what the city wanted to charge me to do the replacement and less than all the other estimates I received.
Marc is a little slow at returning phone calls but his price is the best and the work is great, so having a little patience for him to get back to you (which he always does) is well worth it.

The amount was quite a bit less compared to the other estimates that I got. They were good. I didn't really need to be there when they did the work. They just did the job and checked it out. They sent me a quote and then they got the machine on a Friday. They set up the molds and they had an inspector come and get it right after they did it. They had to come back again on the following Friday or Saturday for the concrete which they did. They had the inspection done as well. Things went well with them and they did a good job. Since it was such a small job, I wanted to make sure that they had people in the area already and they gave us special tips so that it would work out cheaper. It was good. They do bigger projects as well. They try and help to keep the cost down and they do whatever they can to help me out. I will use their services again in the future.

They did what they were supposed to do. The price was included in the overall cost of the job, so I never paid them directly. They did a good job in a timely manner.

It went well. I was a complex project with 2 colors, everything curved, and lots of insets and other complications. It was hard to find a contractor interested in working on a project like that, but they seemed to understand what I wanted from the start. They did a good job in the work, and although it is not 'flawless', it is within my expectations and I'm happy with the work. They were always prompt and responsive.

I didn't hire him because we pushed our project for next summer, but he will be the one who will be doing it.

We had been needing to replace the sidewalk for some time. I got three estimates and Mark came in the lowest and the one I felt best working with. Plus, he had a recommendation from Friends of the Urban Forest as well as Angie's List. He came out when he said to give me an estimate and helped me coordinate with our tree guy (See California Tree Care) to do root work on our street tree after he had removed the old sidewalk, but before they poured the concrete. We schedule a day to have the work done after I returned from a vacation - and it all went according to schedule. There was one minor hiccup coordinating with the tree guy, but we quickly resolved it and all went smoothly.

This was the 4th bid we got, and it was $400 less than any other bidder. We felt confident taking the low bidder in this case since his work was recommended on the ''Friends of the Urban Forest'' website, indicating he knew something about trees. He showed up on time, got all the work done in one day, and came back the next day to remove barriers protecting the fresh concrete. The job looks great, and we're pretty confident that although it was necessary to cut off some very big roots, the tree will live. I couldn't be happier.
