BUYER BEWARE! This guy a crook. It is a scam. Signed an agreement and paid over a month ago, but have not received any work, and now can not get a response. Be forewarned. Do not give up your money.

We are very satisfied having Tom and the team design our ADU. They were clear and reasonable with costs and were easy to communicate with. Tom listened to our ideas and was able to guide us on good solutions. In addition, we asked them to help us through the city permit process and they were able to do so even though we live outside San Francisco. My husband and I whole-heartedly recommend them!

Very helpful throughout the entire process

Tom and Compassion by Design are by far my favorite vendors with regards to my home remodel project. The quality of work is superb, they're extremely knowledgeable and are always responsive (a rarity in this industry I've found). Compassion by Design was a great fit for us because we're doing a kitchen+bathroom remodel that requires plans and permits but not necessarily an architect. Unlike most designers I interviewed, Tom had the technical experience to provide drafts. Equally important, they are great communicators, explaining up front the pricing, timeline and stages involved in drafting and getting us permit ready. During the design process Tom did a great job balancing what we wanted and pushing our vision beyond what we thought it could be. He always responded promptly and ultimately managed communications with the county building office. Perhaps the one area for improvement was the project estimate, it was extremely difficult to find a GC who fell within the ballpark of estimated costs. Overall I would definitely use them again and highly recommend!

Our experience working with Tom at Compassion by Design has been wonderful. We purchased our first home recently and hired Tom to help with some remodel designs and permits. From day one the service has been great. Definitely been a rollcoaster process with contractor issues, delays, increasing costs, scope of work expansion, etc. The home remodel is still a work in progress, but despite all this craziness the one stable partner we have had has been Tom. He is knowledgeable, does great work and you can trust him, which in this current market is nearly impossible to find. He continues to go out of his way to help us spending those extra hours and always responding to our emails. Overall, we would highly recommend Compassion by Design for all your design needs.

Tom was thorough in his approach, responsive to my concerns, and his work product is of high quality. The plans went through permit review with no revisions, to my great relief. He was also accommodating on price and went out of his way to stay on budget.

He has patience and listens to what you want. He's my go to guy. He's the best, going above and beyond and straight to the point.
