$200,000 in legal fees and expenses. Avila & Wadlington were hired to do a complete remodel of a 950 sq ft loft apartment in San Francisco with a fixed amount contract and a mediation clause. They were given a bid book of over 150 pages with all the details. After 101/2 months they left with works not completed, as per the bid book. In spite of the mediation clause we were then served with a mechanics lien against on the apartment. The "basis" of this lien were invoices that had already been paid and invoices that were generated after they left the work. After thousands of $ in legal fees we went to meditation. But to no avail. We then had to go to arbitration paying $20,000 for the arbitrator and thousands more in discovery and legal expenses. At the end the arbitrator ruled in our favor saying that the contract was a fixed price contract. But we still ended up with a much delayed job that was not to our satisfaction and horrendous legal fees. BE CAREFUL
