Don, owner of Core Plumbing - called back promptly when I left a voice mail on his phone regarding a leaking hot water pipe in my slab. In the call he recommended an excellent leak detection company (C.P.L. in El Cajon). - stopped by as soon as the leak detection was complete, described the repair process, and gave us excellent advice on dealing with the situation. - came by 2 days before the repair on what I think was his lunch hour to replace a poorly operating intake valve on our water heater. - arrived with his assistant Mike at the scheduled time to do the pipe rerouting repair, an all day job. - completed all work promised at the very reasonable quoted price. The work areas were left clean and orderly. The repairs appear neat and professional and all is operating perfectly. In my 72 years I've had a lot of experience with tradespeople. None were better than Core Plumbing and I can only think of one other that was equal. I highly recommend Core Plumbing and will use them in the future for all my plumbing needs.

They've done a couple of jobs for us. I went to Angie's List and I found Core again because of good repute and their presence on Angie's List. I think they do impeccable work. They are scrupulous about doing things right which I think has chaffed for other people where sometimes home owner's are looking to cut corners and Core is really not the plumber to go to if you want to do something suspect. For me they are exactly the right mark.
Description of Work: I've been working out through several service calls with Core Plumbing. The price was a little less than they had originally estimated for installing a pressure regulator for the whole house.

Don's work was fine. I thought his price was on the high side. On the finished job he was unwilling to install the dishwasher so I hired someone else to do the finished work which the price was less than Don's and included hooking up the dishwasher.
Description of Work: Don did the rough plumbing for my kitchen remodel. I called him when he was 15 minutes late and he had gone to another job. He apoligized and came over. The wall was not open so he refused to do the job saying all these codes about opening the drywall. I called my neighbor over to open the wall since I wanted the scheduled job done that day. He raised the kitchen trap arm and moved the hot and cold water stub outs.

Response from CORE PLUMBING
The homeowner had arranged to have all demolition performed by another contractor prior to our agreement to perform rough plumbing. But when we arrived to proceed with our work, the drywall had not been removed. Because the property was built well before 1978, it is required by law to test for lead paint and asbestos prior to demolition, and this is a process that can take a few days. The client was clearly not happy about this and chose to have a neighbor finish the demo to keep the project on schedule. Contrary to our urging to have the job done properly, she made the decision to allow an unlicensed worker with no knowledge of the Federal Lead Paint Law and/or asbestos abatement requirements demo the kitchen and likely expose airborne asbestos and lead throughout the condominium. The client's disregard for the lawful requirements that we are subject to as California Contractors resulted in our inability to serve to her satisfaction. We continue to uphold the standards which are expected of us as Contractors in this state, and allowing the client to dictate the terms of our performance is not a viable business model. I regret that she was less than satisfied with the progress of our work. Under the circumstances we were unable, legally to meet her expectations.

I thought they did a good job. There was a problem with one of the parts that they brought in and they took care of it. There was a defect or a dent and it didn't fit properly. They came back with no charge and solved it. They were very good. We corresponded several times through email to get the scheduling and also the description of the work I wanted done down. I think he did give me a small cost for doing all of the toilets at the same time. I was very happy with him. He was punctual, did what he said he was gonna do and was pleasant to deal with.

I was able to reach them on a Saturday and he determined that my problem was a slab leak. He helped determine that it was a hot water pipe leak and therefore I could turn off the leak of both water and subsequently the gas expense to heat it. The work was done super cleanly and professionally. I am glad I found Core Plumbing through Angies list and will call them with any future plumbing requirements!!

I called Core Plumbing on Thursday to schedule an estimate and Joe was able to come by Saturday. He was very knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and gave me some options to choose from. He advised me on another plumbing problem, too. Joe worked out an estimate that was very reasonable, and we scheduled the work for that Wednesday. Grant called me the day of the appointment to ask if it was okay if he showed up earlier, which worked out well for me. Grant was punctual, professional and did a beautiful job! Clean-up was perfect, too! I will definitely call Core Plumbing for all my future plumbing needs. I highly recommend Core Plumbing for a professional, knowledgeable, no-fuss and affordable plumber.

I've been using Core Plumbing for several years. The price was extremely fair. I thought that they were courteous, prompt and I was quite surprised not to be charged. The original cost for installing a faucet that I can use for my wheelchair was a very fair price. They planned everything out under the sink so that I can put everything back, it was exceptional service. I absolutely had no problems for a year, when I did have trouble they came the same day.

This was the 5th time that I have used Core Plumbing. He replaced my water heater about a week before I called him with this leak problem at my rental property. He was quick to respond and worked well with my tenants. I call him with all my plumbing jobs since I have used him so many times before and he has always done a good job. My husband and I have been very happy with the work Don & Grant from Core Plumbing have done for us and will not hesitate to call him the next time we have a plumbing issue.
Description of Work: Don from Core Plumbing replaced the garbage disposal and pipes under the kitchen sink, and replaced the faucets on two bathroom sinks (I purchased the faucet kits myself). He also did some other misc. plumbing repairs in the kitchen and bathrooms.

Don, (the owner) came out to look at the job, which is more than I can say for most plumbers. Most would not even look at it because let's face it, broken sewer pipe issues is a dirty job. (but hey, that's why plumbers make the big bucks). A couple of options were discussed, including replacing the sewer pipe system for the entire house which wuld have run around 5k. Before he would get started, Don recommended a flood clean up company to santize the ground and a drain camera service to find the break. I went ahead and coordinated with both of these companies and had the preliminary work done so that Core Plumbing would have a clean, safe environment to work in and know exactly where the problem was located. With the new camera information, I concluded that we did not need to replace the entire system, but just repair the break. Don then came back to the job site, looked under the house and told me that he was going to "pass" on doing the work because he did not want to crawl under the house. He now needed a hole to be cut in my floor ... but he said he would not cut the hole because asbestos notifications were required. I cut the hole myself so that I could keep this job going. I later found out that a contractor can remove up to 100 square feet of an asbestos material without the need for notifications. (A hole to crawl through the floor would only be about 6 sq ft). Here is published information from the AQMD that confirms the 100 sq ft rule. http://www.elsegundo.org/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?blobid=6538 http://www.aqmd.gov/comply/asbestos/1403FAQ.doc After I cut the hole in my kitchen floor, Core Plumbing noted that there were spiders under the house around the pipe and they required that I have an exterminator remove them before they would do any work. I called a reliable pest control company and had that done. FInally, I scheduled Core Plumbing to come out and do the work, which now was basically glue 2 pieces of pipe back together. They charged me $600.00. This seemed a bit much... but at this point, I did not want to start the process all over with a new plumber, plus they had provided good information, and recommendations for the cleanup and camera work. Don's son did the job, but interestingly, he used a rubber pipe coupling instead of gluing the 2in. ABS pipe. I was concerned about the use of a coupling so I asked around and came to the conclusion that this is really not the way it should be done. This could possibly be a problem point later on, from the loosening of the clamps on the coupling, so I had another plumber come out to remove the coupling and glue the pipe together so it would be permanent. I liked Don and I can tell that he knows his stuff. Unfortunately, I would not hire Core Plumbing again. It just seemed that they tended to make bigger issues out of the minor setbacks that would come with any job.

Response from CORE PLUMBING
I am in agreement with the homeowner that a fairly simple job was hindered by certain difficulties. The crawl space was flooded with sewage, so we referred Gold Coast Flood and Mold to pump out the sewage prior to crawling in. Once it was cleaned up, we crawled under and found that the leaking drain pipe was in a part of the crawlspace we could not physically get to. Upon discussing this with the owner, it was clear that opening the floor would be more cost effective than digging our way under to get to the problem. Rather than go through the testing process for asbestos in the flooring, our client offered to open the floor himself, which is his prerogative as a homeowner. He did this, and we came back to find that portion of the crawlspace to be infested with black widows...not just one or two, but dozens... within a fairly small area. I'm sorry that he had to get it exterminated, but it was necessary. I could not in good conscience send an employee under there with that many black widows. The fittings that are being complained about are a standard of the industry. We plumb skyscrapers with these fittings and it was certainly an appropriate application for a single family residence. To conclude, the homeowner may have forgotten that the $600.00 charge included repair to his sewer clean-outs in the front yard, which was a separate and unrelated problem than the leak under the kitchen. We had three trips to his house and solved two major drain related plumbing problems, and I believe that we treated our client fairly and with respect.

Worthless. Paid for other problems they caused.
Description of Work: My shower handle neefed adjustment because it went from ice cold to boiling hot. I don't know what they did to the handle but now it works 90% cold to room temperature. 10% hot. See services performed- in brief- they were about 40 minutes late but had the courtesy to call; there is a $12.50 travel fee preprinted on their bill so I assume is included in all repairs that was never mentioned in advance. So be forewarned about this hidden charge. I may use them again or I may look again at other recommended plumbers in the area.
Description of Work: Removed old toilet and installed new toilet we had purchased. We had made appt the previous week after a price quote for the toilet replacement work and valve if needed (it was). I described problems with 2 other toilets that needed estimates and repairs that would be done at the time of the house call. I arranged time off from work to be here for the repair. 15 min after scheduled appt, time Don called to inform they were running late due to paperwork backlog at the office. Grant ( his son) arrived about 40 minutes after the original appt time. Grant provided estimates for the 2 other toilets and the cost of repairs was high and he recommended that since they were old we would be better advised to replace them rather than pay the same amount for a repair of an old toilet that was likely to malfunction again, as a reinstall of a new WC. I appreciated the honest advice and did not proceed with the repairs of the other 2 toilets and just did the install of the new toilet. Installation of new toilet went without incident and Grant left the bathroom clean. Cost of toilet installation does not include removal of old toilet- that would be another $40. Note the work order is preprinted with a $12.50 travel charge that was never mentioned at any time during the bid process.
