Seth advised that he may be able to fix both problems with clearing the laundry room first. Once cleared the laundry drain did not solve the kitchen problem. Seth then cleared the kitchen drain. Both drains are now working great. Our plumber Seth did a great job. I know we will use Affordable Drain Service for any future drain problems

Michael came out on time and was very polite, professional and took care of the problem. He was careful to keep everything clean and answered all of my questions. I will definitely call Affordable Drain Service the next time we have drain issues.

The tech did a good job clearing out my kitchen sink drain. He was very efficient. I called and scheduled on the same day which was a Sunday. He arrived within the time window given to me over the phone. I chose to have the work done on a weekend even with the x1.5 rate. I suggest that the company update its Angie's List 15% off coupon if it isn't accepted on weekends. I'd still recommend Affordable Drain Service as their rates are competitive and service is great.

The Affordable Drain guy did excellent work and helped me understand the layout of my sewer pipe.  He also helped me dig for the line where the issue was.  Unfortunately, there was no riser from the tee with the city line at a reasonable depth and he had to leave for the next call, but before that time we managed to dig down about two feet.  I finished the digging a couple of days later myself.  It turned out the tee (and the place of the obstruction) was within an inch or two horizontally from the mapped surface point.  It was at the approximate depth determined by his equipment: four feet.
When I removed the tree root that was causing the trouble, the line still didn't drain properly so I had them out again to do a rooter job from the tee.  The second guy showed up promptly and cleared the drain.
I installed a new riser with a cap and haven't had any trouble since (four months as of this writing).
The cost of service listed was for the first call only.  The second call was an additional charge, but still fair.

Pros: Quick service, nice attitude on the technician, did exactly what I asked quickly
Cons: Bait and switch pricing, running the business through his phone while at my house and charging me for it, never saying that the quote over the phone was different than the price I would be charged, not telling me that the hours he spent on the phone and working at the already solved problem were actually going to cost me more money, leaving saying the job was not complete and needed to come back out with cameras and a larger crew (when the job was complete), offering token discounts off a bill still way larger than what was quoted over the phone and in person, disputing the events by the owner (?Dan?) over the phone and justifying why the tech should be charging me MORE than what he did, essentially calling me a liar over the phone.
Longer version:
I called Saturday for a mainline back up. I had had this issue before and my regular plumber was not available. I needed 100-120 ft snake run through some roots in the front yard. Received quoted price twice over the phone and once in person of $250 for going in the roof and $200 for the toilet pull. I said lets try the toilet pull. Tech started the work but then immediately was receiving phone calls and messages through out the whole time he was here. I told him to take whatever time he needed, offered him something to drink etc.. When he was able to get the second drum on the snake he ran it all the way out (?150ft) and pulled it back. (this is when the job was completed) then he tried again and said he hit something at ~130ft. I asked if he had tried to run water down it since he cleared the pipe at 150ft already, he said he did and could still see it in the bottom of the pipe. I went to the lowest spot in the house (garage basin) and saw it was clear, ran 20 gallons of hot water down and saw everything was moving fine. I couldn't find the tech. He was outside on the phone again. He apologized for being on the phone for so much, said that he was responsible for all the calls tonight and that it was a crazy night, one guy (tech maybe?) had failed to show up and didn't call. I was understanding. He kept trying to snake the pipe since he said he still saw water in it (which maybe he did, but the mainline was clear non-the-less). I suggested he try running water down it, he balked at that. More calls, more snaking, more me saying "do what you got to do". Finally he came to me and said he could spend all night here but he didn't know what was wrong and that it would be really expensive. I told him to stop at this point. This is the first time anyone had said the quoted price would change. He left sorry and saying that they could be out Monday with a camera to inspect the line. He gave my an invoice for $350 a full $150 over the quote. He said he didn't charge for the cost of the second drum (which I specifically asked for on the quote) and he took off one half hour. So total was 2.5 hours, $200 for the first 1.5 hours and $150 for the next hour. I questioned him about that, he was sorry, said he had to charge his time to something, can't spend 3 hours at a site and not charge for it. It was seven PM, I had 2 week old twins, a toddler and a wife standing 15 feet away so I signed the bill and paid instead of fighting over it.
I did two things right after he left. I called the office immediately to discuss and left a message and I ran hot water down every faucet in the house for 10 minutes with no issue. I called again on Sunday and left a message. Finally spoke to someone Monday who said that if it were up to her she wouldn't have given me any discounts and that I should be happy with the bill as-is. I asked to talk to someone else. Shortly after that Dan(?) called me back and I discussed the above. He did not once look at it from my side. He even had the audacity to say that he didn't charge me for HIS time when the technician call him at his house that night to ask for advice! I suggested that he discuss this with his tech or look at the number of hours his tech was on the phone and not working my job, he evaded saying it was not possible. Yet they have GPS on the truck and knew he was at my house from 3:50 to 6:50PM. Dan repeatedly asked me if I thought it was fair for them to work at my house for 3 hours and get paid $200 for it which works out to $66/hour and no one works for that much. I restated my argument repeatedly, 1) I got a quote for a job, a specific need that I knew would solve it, 2) the technician solved it very early on, did not admit it and kept working 3) the technician was on the phone for way over an hour running the call center for the night and charge me for that. After running through the argument 3 or 4 times with Dan I hung up. And here we are.
If they had quoted me $500 I would have paid it. I need the line clear and was pretty desperate. But they didn't work on my problem while they were here, or respect me when I called to discuss... so this.

Response from Affordable Drain Service Inc

"Dear Readers, Much of what the Client says is true, there were several challenges with this project. There is truly too much to rebut, however, the facts are that we performed a service and successfully solved the Clients’ problem. Unfortunately, we do think that there is problem with the line which is why we made recommendations to view the line with a sewer camera. The sewer camera will tell all with regard to the condition of the line and why the Client has repeated problems. There is much of “he said / she said” as to the circumstances with regard to the events as they unfolded, but Affordable Drain Service stands by their quality of workmanship, transparent and fair pricing as represented by our many other happy clients. I never suggested that the Client was lying, and I do take exception to the accusation of the ‘bait and switch’ technique. No one signs an invoice and pays the bill in full after successfully solving the problem, with several line item discounts if they feel that they have been taken advantage of. This would be near criminal “Strong Armed Robbery” if a Technician is attempting to intimidate a client to sign and pay, as the Client is suggesting. That is despicable and offensive. The Client had a very difficult problem that we worked diligently to solve, for which we did solve, and we charged a fair and reasonable price for which we understood the Client to happily pay. Thank you for taking the time to read both sides and form your own judgments. Daniel"

more than an hour's workI called on Sunday when the water in the kitchen sink would not go down & when I tried to use a plunger, the water came up in the sink in an adjoining bathroom.  I was given a good rate, but was told that if I could wait until Monday the price would only be $88 instead of $132.  I called first thing Monday morning & was told that they would be there between 9 & 11, but would call before arriving.  They confirmed the $88 price, but said if there was something requiring it would be $108.  I got a call at 8:30 and the repair people (Jonathan and Seth, who was in training) arrived at 8:45.  They were polite, clean, and efficient.  The cost was $88.  I highly recommend them not only because they have the best price of the top 6 in Angie's list that I checked out (the closest was for $99/hr on Monday with the travel time to and from included in the billing), but because of the good service.

I was replacing two toilets in my dad's townhome, so I decided to have the drains inspected/cleaned before installing the new toilets.

The two guys who did the job came in the time quoted.  Very friendly and professional.  Kevin especially was very helpful--he even let me look at the camera image to see the pipes--kinda gross but very informative.

I would use this company again and would recommend them to my friends and family.

Crew of 2, Kevin & Bob, were courteous, professional, prompt, thorough, and efficient. They cleared 3" drain completely during 0830 - 1115 hours. 2 buried drain grates were found and cleared also. I was very impressed watching them work. I would recommend their company & work to anyone in San Diego County. Their equipment rig was impressive & well maintained. This drain line had not been serviced since installation in 1991. Discount coupon was honored.

Jason showed up on short notice on a Saturday,  He knew exactly what to do and got right to it.  He explained what the problem was, fixed it, cleaned up better than I could have hoped (and it was messy!), and recommended things we could do to prevent it from happening it again.  Even made a change to the pipes that would make it easier to clean out if it ever did happen again.  Well worth the price we paid to have such quick, efficient, effective, professional service, particularly on a weekend.

Called for service on our backyard patio drain (a channel groove on the surface of our patio). Went through a detailed description of the issue with the person who took the call. He told me that if the Technician did the assessment and could perform work, we would be charged for service, otherwise, if nothing could be done, that would be that.
Guys showed up on time, and looked at our drainage issue for no more than 5 minutes. Told us that they would need to rip up and damage the problem area, but even then might not know how to fix the issue. Charge us $88 for the 5 minutes, then loitered outside our front yard. At that time, I needed to pick up the kids from school.
My husband called the company to complain and the customer service person told him that the service personnel's GPS told her they were there for over 30 minutes, so they MUST have provided a thorough investigation of the problem and deserved to be paid for the "service" call. Again, they performed zero service and then waited around so that they could log they were at the property for a sufficient amount of time.
Would definitely NOT recommend this company to anyone. Have no idea if they do a good job or are adequate with resolving drain issues that they try and fix. I DO know that they conduct themselves in an unethical way and therefore would be wary of any work the do or recommend doing.
Response from Affordable Drain Service Inc

"Landscape / irrigation drains are a difficult thing to work on and in many cases have been neglected for many years. In this instance, we would have attempted to remove the cover, and it would have broken. There are many types of 'over the counter' and homemade covers and there is no reasonable way for us to make those replacements or repairs to the covers. For that reason, we asked the client if she wanted us to remove it and she chose no, as there would have now been a tripping hazard until it was repaired. Otherwise, we would have performed the work. As for the rest or the review, I take great exception to the implication that we are liars and that we are deceitful. This review suggests that we unnecessarily hung around to pad our time so that we could charge. That is both lying and stealing. This implication is despicable. The fact is, that there were two men on site, assessing her situation, making recommendations how to properly and safely go forward with the project, we offered to go forward with the project and we offered to come back another day once the cover was addressed. When we left, we understood the wife of the home to happy with the recommendations and she gave us a credit card for the service call without giving any implication of dissatisfaction. In a follow up conversation, I made it clear that we give discounts for follow up work; therefore the value would not be lost. For our service call fee, they gained a value in an accurate diagnosis, recommendations for safe follow up work and gained the benefit of our tech not foolishly ‘Just Going For It’ to make a bigger invoice ticket and potentially making a situation worse. This was not being lazy for $88, this was being smart and not making a situation worse for $285.00. Otherwise the review would have read, “They foolishly broke my cover and left an unsafe situation for my children”. Our Lead Tech on site has been with our Company for 15 years and is a father of two young sons. His recommendations were made on the basis of many years of outstanding workmanship and also for the safety of the family and household. I stand by my Technicians’ workmanship, his recommendations and his professionalism; I also stand by our Office Manager for working diligently and professionally with this client to try to bring resolve."

Most recently we had them out for a twice a year preventative drain cleaning. Many of our tenants often put things in the toilets that clog the drains and we try to get ahead of issues with preventative maintenance rather than reactive solutions. Next time I'm going to have them use a camera scope to help us understand where the old cast iron pipes meet the newer PVC pipes so we have an understanding of how the different pipes flow for future concerns. They were excellent.

Affordable Drain Service rescued my party! It was supposed to start at 2pm, at about 12:45 pm I heard running water in the front yard and found the cleanout leaking. Looked up emergency sewer cleaning services on Angie's List, found Affordable Drain Service and called them. The very nice lady that answered the phone said someone would call me back quickly and quoted the price as $168.00 for an overtime call. Scott called back within 5 minutes, said he would be here between 30 minutes to an hour. He was here lots faster than 30 minutes, and was finished before 1:30. He was very pleasant, professional and thorough. I would recommend Affordable Drain Service, I'm very happy that I called them.

Service was outstanding.  Kevin showed up on time actually 10 minutes early.  He was extremely knowledgeable and always very professional.  Not only was he very thorough but he was extremely good at explaining what condition my pipes were in and every step of his inspection and cleaning service.  I had gotten multiple quotes for hydrojetting and camera inspections and they were all in the $900 - $1000 range.  When I called Affordable Drain Service, they quoted me $285 for 2hr with any additional time needed going for (+125/hr).  Wow I am so glad I called saved me over $600 today.  Also the fact that Affordable Drain Service does not do any repiping, pipe lining or digging to replace pipes only increased their credibility when Kevin discussed my options with me.  Nice to see their are still companies out there that truly value the customers experience and quality of service rather than focusing on upsaling the client to the next more expensive service they could provide.  I totally recommend Affordable Drain Service to anyone needing to clear a drain mainline or hydrojetting old pipes.  And I cant say enough about Kevin's outstanding service today.  Thanks for saving me a bunch of money and solving my plumbing mystery.

The guy who showed up was very professional. We thought that our drains needed cleaning, but he determined this wasn't the case by asking some questions about what was going on. Instead he cleaned some mineral buildup from the toilet and increased the amount of water used in each flush which helped the toilet flush better. Unfortunately a few months later, the toilets are back to being horrible when it comes to flushing, but I don't know that Affordable Drains could have fixed that since I don't know what the cause of the problem is.
