"I'd like to thank [member name removed] Wake for taking the time to respond to Angie's List with her subjective review. I'd like to address her statements. 1. We explain to all of our clients at our initial meeting that we do not provide itemized cost estimates. We do lump sum pricing and then give upgrade and downgrade costs if our clients request more or less work. Mrs. Wake signed her Proposal for Construction / Home Improvement Agreement without a breakdown of costs presented or ever promised, and did not ever ask for a breakdown until much later in the construction phase of her project. 2. We do not accept credit cards and never have. Mrs. Wake did not ask about this until the project was well underway. 3. As to the finish wearing off on the HVAC floor vent, this is the first we've heard about this. We always try to take care of any issues as quickly as possible, and would have done so if [member name removed] were to have called and asked. This remains the case today. We also send a "Request for Warranty Work" letter about 9 months after project completion to allow our clients to request service work on items that might need attention. [member name removed] will receive this letter and we will address any issue she might have. 5. Towel rack placement is always at the discretion of the owner. Every client wants these accessory items installed in different locations. Our installer went over exact placement with the owner. 6. On receipt of notification of the shower valve issue, our plumber returned immediately to remedy the problem. 7. As a service to [member name removed], her washing machine remained in the remodel area during the course of the project, even though her laundry room was part of the remodel. Typcially, we like all items to be removed, since we know that accidents can occur to items left in the remodel areas. Leaving the washing machine in the laundry room, required that we remove and replace both the washer and dryer on more than one occasion. Per our verbiage in [member name removed] proposal, "There is absolutely no guarantee as to the function of existing appliances where they are reinstalled. Seals can also dry out on appliances that are not used on a regular basis, thereby causing leaks." Where appliances or other building components are reused, we cannot assume liability for their function or performance. Reused components get old and wear out, and may be close to failing when we arrive on the project. 8. Eberle Remodeling is professional and above board in all its business dealings. After 29 years of serving Sacramento area homeowners, our reputation speaks for itself with countless numbers of satisfied clients. Respectfully, Kent Eberle, MCR, CKBR, UDCP, CAPS President, Eberle Remodeling"
"[removed member name] contacted my company back in July 2008. I went out to take a look at her project and submitted a Design Agreement to her for a whole house remodel project. Subsequently, I learned that the transaction that [removed member name] proposed to me involved a 1031 exchange. At that time, I received professional input from a licensed certified public accountant with respect to her desired accounting transaction and was advised to not enter in to the transaction. I recused myself from proceeding any further. Respectfully, Kent Eberle, MCR, CKBR, UDCR, CAPS President, Eberle Remodeling"
"To my knowledge, the member had three professional remodeling companies (Eberle Remodeling, Morse Construction, Bedrock Construction) visit his house to perform preliminary cost estimates on his project. After having all three companies spend their time and energy to provide "free" estimates, the member thought all three of the companies were too expensive. Obviously, the member's assessment is subjective and as he indicates, based on what he "thinks" the costs should be and what he "wants" the costs to be. There's no doubt that a customer can always find someone to do their job for cheap. However, a professional remodeling company will typically have the associated costs of: worker's compensation insurance; general liability insurance; auto insurance; equipment maintenance; licensing and bonding fees; maintaining a place of business; other general overhead; and using the services of high quality employees and subcontractors (who are also licensed and insured). Undoubtedly, this is going to be a more expensive approach to the remodeling process than hiring an unlicensed crew down at the local Home Depot parking lot. To lump all three companies into the same "cost too much" category, demonstrates a lack of knowledge about what it takes to run a successful remodeling business. In addition and in general, whatever someone pays for a remodel is always going to be more than they want to spend. What constitutes good value typically does not come without some expense. The old adage, “you get what you pay for”, generally does hold true. I invite readers of this report and this response to visit - our web site - to view Eberle Remodeling’s independent customer satisfaction surveys and ratings. We started these third party assessments several years ago to obtain honest and straight-forward feedback from clients (who we actually provided service to), instead of Angie's List where potential clients can give you their two cents worth without ever having the company provide any service. After 28 years of honestly and ethically serving many, many clients in the greater Sacramento area, we still constantly strive to provide our remodeling clients with the best value for the dollar. Respectfully, Kent Eberle."
