Marco C. of Customer Exteriors and his assistant performed magnificent work. All of the materials used were professional grade, high quality, the trim and casing carefully selected, and Marco clearly knows his trade well: what is the best sealants to use and what was expected in the quality of his work. Because they turned out beautiful!
They arrived exactly on time both days, were super efficient in how they approached the job, Marco was extremely clear in everything that he did and what was expected of me, asked for my opinion on the little things that I'm sure people complain about afterwards (like the preferred opening direction of a pair of large windows) and he delivered exactly what we wanted; and more. Oh.. and they were clean. Construction is always a terrible mess, but these guys always, and I mean every single time, took the time to minimize the mess, kept personal items covered if there was any chance of debris, and presented their final product to us in pristine condition. I really cannot say enough about what Customer Exteriors in Pleasanton delivered.
Of course these things can be a bit pricey and I'm sure we could have gotten it done cheaper with Box Store materials and installed by a couple of gorillas with a sawzall... but those were the windows that we just replaced!
And these windows are NICE (maybe too nice for my tiny little house)! And I must say, after it is all said and done, that I kinda wish that I would've done all of the windows in the house. Super job, Custom Exteriors. We are well satisfied with what you delivered.

Updated 9/24/15: Someone from Custom Exteriors called to see if we were satisfied, and upon inspection of the interior drywall finish acknowledged the drywall work had not been completed. A few days later (without scheduling ahead), a couple of capable folks dropped in (fortunately I was able to stay at home that day to allow them to get it done), and in a couple of hours, finished the window work nicely. Hence have bumped up the quality rating from B to A, and the professionalism rating from D to C. It looks like they are very understaffed, may be taking on too much without investing in coordination/customer scheduling resources. Can be easily prevented, as can the over-hype of the complexity of the work in the sales quotation process.

We have been thinking of you and the crew at Custom Exteriors while the heatwave is upon us. Last October you all did a fabulous job of installing Anlin Catalina windows on our San Leandro home. Now that they are being put to the test we can report a 20 degree difference in temperature! When it is 90 on the back porch it is 70 in the kitchen (which faces south).

Everything was installed beautifully and the whole job was done in 2 days. The crew was profession and cleaned up very well. We have noticed a tremendous improvement in the comfort of our home which was cold and drafty with our previous windows.

I contacted the Custom Exterior's salesman via email to send me another estimate with the less expensive windows but he never replied nor called me.
"I'm sorry you had a poor experience with us 7 mos ago. You stated that you went with another company, I'm sure the job turned out great. I did speak with our salesman regarding this. Naturally, his version of events differs somewhat as to who did or did not contact whom. I am concerned and disappointed when we lose an opportunity to work with a referral. I am also concerned when we get a poor review for a project we lost, many months after the fact. Curiously, what prompted you to write about us, many months removed, about a project awarded to someone else? Generally, most people would not spend the time. Needless to say, I've spoken to the salesman about this because it's an error easily corrected on our end. Last year we received a similar review on Angie's List about a project we did not get 3 years after the fact. In an industry where contractors solicit good reviews to manage their reputation in a positve way, some also solicit less than positive reviews about competitors. We do have history with Angie's List where a former salesman hacked into our Angies account and directed lead requests to his new company unbeknownst to us. We caught them and confronted the company and Angie's List with the information and frankly both looked the other way. Angie's List wanted to keep them under contract because they spend a great deal of money for advertising. Right thing to do,not ethically, but yes, financially. Again, I'm sorry we did not get an opportunity to impress you with our own Angie's List service. We surely fell short. Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention. The truly amazing part is that they were completely done that same day! Is was amazing to watch.
The new windows and doors are great. Even with the "biggest storm in over 5 years" beating down, with the new windows closed I can't even hear the rain pounding down outside.

I paid an initial deposit to company #1, signed a contract, then waited and waited and waited: 3 weeks with no communication about installation date, even though I called every 7 days and left messages for call backs.
I ultimately cancelled the contract because the Anlin windows they said I could have with them were not available, and they wanted be to switch to a lower grade window.
I called Custom Exteriors and asked if they would honor my original estimate. Without hesitation, they did AND gave me an additional 10% discount for returning to them.
I'd like to add that Paul Kaplan, the sales rep, was excellent. He didn't try to 'hard sell' me on any windows that fit my budget. He brought great samples with him, explained the differences - both technical and visual/aesthetic - and was very professional as a contact and communicator.
The timeline was perfect: they said it would take 10-14 days to order and create the custom windows (house is built in 1923 with a few non-standard sizes). Around day 11, I received a call to set up an installation day.
I was informed that it would take two full days because of the hideous security bars that needed to be removed as well as the installation of the new windows.
They removed all bars, filled in all holes, removed all old windows, installed all new windows in just 1 & 1/2 days. The crew was super nice, courteous, and clean: they laid tarps near all work spaces, wiped, vacuumed, and cleaned all areas completely after each installation.
I am very happy with my new windows and the quality work that they performed. I highly recommend them.
Custom Exteriors also has a line of doors available. When the time comes, I may use them for this home upgrade too.

"Thank you for your review. Typically we receive a review based on a project, scope of work, and overall customer satisfaction. This one is limited to our estimate and pricing. In speaking with the estimator, we determined he offered 3-4 product scenarios at the appointment. Not mentioned in the review is that this property is an inherited property being prepped for a likely sale. It's an important detail We get quite a few appointments like this. Because price is generally near the top of the list of concerns we find our business model does not match this opportunity. Our target is the homeowner who is looking for a long-term solution, possibly a soon to retire baby boomer or someone who desires a low-maintenance solution. The stucco products we've aligned ourselves with offer industry leading warranties of up to 15 years, unheard of in the stucco industry where there is no real warranty at all. The up-front project cost is higher but long-term performance and lower maintenance costs often make for a more satisfying Angie's Llist member experience.
