Pat is great...on time every time and gets the work done quickly, so nice! He wants each customer to be happy :)
Response from Tom Moffett Plumbing

"Thank you [member name removed] for your recent review. But after checking your name in our database, it does not look like we performed any work for you. I believe the technician, Pat, that you mentioned works for our sister company up in Big Bear Lake, CA. If this is the case, I'm sure posting this review on their profile would be greatly appreciated. Regardless, I will be sure to pass along your kind words to our colleagues in Big Bear!"

Tom Moffett person arrived on time and called me ahead of time so I didn't have to sit at home the entire waiting window.  He was nice and professional.  Looked at garbage disposal and showed me several different kinds of disposals to choose from.  There was no pressure to pick on over the other.  The replacement was done quickly and he cleaned up the area when he was finished.

  Great job!

They were very professional and on time for the appointment. They were very clean and tidy. They even put on booties on their shoes when they were in the house. The ad said it was a 1.2 gallon toilet and they tried to install a 1.6 gallon toilet. They had to go and get another toilet from the warehouse and everything turned out fine.

They are a huge company. He gave us a list in prices and there was no guarantee. We knew we had backed up pipes. We went on vacation, and we got back, and we had plumbing work, and we called him. He came out , and he was very pompous, very argumentative, very rude, and he started pulling stuff that had never been pulled out of my pipe before. I got a very fishy feeling about it. He went  to the street, and said that his camera was not working, and he couldn't tell us what was wrong. He couldn't do a thing, couldn't tell us what was wrong, but he charged us $360 for 10 minutes. He had a little bucket, and he was putting stuff in it. I didn't like the feel of it. He didn't do anything, short of opening them a little bit. They didn't even diagnose the real problem, and that was more frustrating. The price was the highest we have ever paid. He was not professional at all. I would never use him again, and I would recommend him to no one. If our plumbing broke, and their truck was sitting across their street, we would still not use them.

Got fixed.  But just another plummer trying to upsell.
Response from Tom Moffett Plumbing

"Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We appreciate all feedback as it makes us strive to be better. It appears that maybe Chris didn't explain things to you as he should have. His "up-sell" attempt was a suggestion that you replace your main shut off valve as it was an old gate valve. Historically, with the water conditions we have in Orange County, these old valves fail when homeowners rely on them most- during an emergency. The newer technology of a ball valve is much more reliable and considering we were replacing a hose bib in the same vicinity, it would have been more cost effective to do both projects at the same time. Our goal is to save you money and stress. I apologize that Chris was unable to explain that to you effectively."

I've used Tom Moffett Plumbing in the past and was always satisfied. Not this time. I will give them credit on arriving at my house within an hour of me calling, but that' where it all ends. I was told it would be $ 533.00 to locate the leak and what ever it cost for repair of the line. I was charged $ 533.00 to dig a 2x2x2 hole, $330.00 to cut out 2ft of water line and $83.00 for 2 PVC elbows and a foot of 1 inch PVC pipe( Home Depot 1inch PVC pipe 10' $3.48, 1' 90 $2.48 and 1' 45 $1.83) Not sure where they buy there supplies but they may wanna reconsider there supplier. That being said that will be the last time I use Tom Moffett Plumbing.
Response from Tom Moffett Plumbing

"Thank you for your review. Our goal is 100% satisfaction and it appears that wasn't the case in your situation. If you honestly believe that $1100 was too much to pay for a technician to spend well over 6 hours at your property for his knowledge and skill and the materials used, please don't hesitate to contact our office and speak with our service manager. I realize you have used our services countless times over the years and we definitely appreciate our long-time clients. You have always been satisfied in the past and we'd hate to lose a loyal client such as yourself over a misunderstanding. Please allow us to fulfill our goal of 100% satisfaction."

I hate to say it, but I'm fairly disappointed with this outfit, particularly in comparison with their competitor.
When our Kenmore water heater started making VERY scary noises, the first thing I did was to call Sears (the phone number that was on the tank).  Talking with those .... people... (My wife would be upset with me if I expressed myself fully here), the only thing I got out of them was that there was only a 1-year warranty on this water heater, and they kept trying to push me on a $200 service contract.  Fed up with that nonsense, I turned to Angie's list and found that Tom Moffett Plumbing got good grades and reviews, so I gave them a call.
All in all, theirs was a friendly, professional and punctual company.  HOWEVER... Their technicians decided that the best thing to do would be to sell me a whole new water heater, at a cost (I was looking at the medium-price range) of a little under $2,000.  After my experience with Sears I was just about ready to say yes to this when my better instincts kicked in and I turned back to Angie's list.  There I found a competitor whose coupon first attracted my attention: New water heater installed for $1,200.  Josh came out, and after hearing about my experience with the Sears .... people, he told me flat-out that a "1-year warranty" was absurd - the bare minimum should have been 6 years.  Josh suggested I go to the nearest Sears store and raise h*** with their manager, which I gladly did.  Josh also pointed out that our water heater being close to the dryer might have been a cause of the problem - there was a lot of dust and lint in the vicinity.  So I went to Sears, made a nuisance of myself there, finally got to talk to a "manager" over the phone, and found out that, surprise surprise, the water heater and all of its parts were in fact covered for 6 years.  They sent out a guy the next morning and replaced the burner unit.  Total price - yes, we decided to go with the 5-year service plan - was roughly $550.
So all in all... I'm very disappointed with Moffett.  Why didn't they point out some other possible solutions to the problem rather than just trying to sell me a new water heater?  Why weren't they as ticked off as I was about the supposed "1 year warranty"?Whereas Josh was very helpful, gave me good advice, and didn't charge me anything for his time, the guys from Moffett just went straight to the sales brochure and collected 79 bucks for the visit.  I will most definitely call Josh rather than Moffett the next time we have any kind of problem.

Okay.  They pushed for more work to do.
Response from Tom Moffett Plumbing

"I'm sorry you felt that way [removed member name]. Upon reviewing our records, it looks like the total cost to repair your water softener was only $133. The only recommendations I see that we made were to update the water heater at some point. I'm truly sorry if you felt that was overstepping our boundaries while we were in your home. Our philosophy is that if we DON'T look at your entire plumbing system while we are there, we are doing you a disservice. Our duty as plumbing professionals is to ensure that your home's plumbing system is in excellent working order so that you don't have that surprise leak or flood at 2 AM Christmas Eve. Furthermore, we attempt to bring issues to your attention so that you may budget and plan for any repairs rather than having to react to a plumbing emergency. We sincerely apologize if you felt this was out of line."

Called them in a panic the night before. suddenly my fairly new, expensive faucet was leaking and starting to damage cabinet floor. They said they could come next day ( today) between 11:00 and 1:00. rec'd call from company advising me Justin on his way. this was at 10:45. he got here and checked everything. discovered just a loose connection which he fixed. I had a coupon so the price was fantastic and I did not have to replace this faucet which would have been very distressing to me. great company!

I originally called on Saturday morning, 11/2, because the only toilet that had been working was clogged up and would not drain.  The plumber arrived in about two hours and took care of the clogged up toilet which needed to be replaced.  He had one on the truck so took care of that one the same day.  He returned on Tuesday, 11/5 with a helper.  They replaced the non-working toilet in the other bathroom and caulked both.  They checked to ensure that both were working properly.  They removed the old fixtures and the cartons the new ones came in, and left the bathrooms neat and clean.
I said that sometimes I had water on the kitchen floor but didn't know where it came from, so they checked it out.  In order to get to the pipe that was leaking, they had to cut the exterior wall and then removed the old pipe and replaced it with a new one with the outlet outside the kitchen so that if the drain needed to be snaked out, it would be readily accessible instead of having to do it from the inside.  They snaked out the line so that it was working properly.  They put a temporary cover over the hole which will be finished when the house is re-stuccoed.
I was very pleased with the workmanship, courtesy and professionalism of the employees who did the work.  I definitely will recommend this company.

Ray Dolen (Lead Technician) and Anthony arrived promptly at the pre-arranged time. They presented themselves well and answered all of our questions.  They replaced our 4-year old Rheem water heater after failed attempts to relight the pilot.
They installed a Bradford White water heater, model # U15036FRN, 40,000 BTU, 50 gallons.
This model retails on-line between $500 and $900.
The installation was neat and they left the area clean.  We are members of their Diamond Club and all the membership dues of $11.95/month we had paid over the past 9 months were credited to the purchase of this new water heater.
Ray informed us of a coupon offer on their website for $100 off any installed water heater. The $100 was also credited towards the replacement.
We chose their Deluxe installation which provides an eight year warranty on the tank, 5 years on parts, 1 year on labor and 8 years of servicing.
The replacement price for the new water heater might be a bit high, but we were more concerned with the servicing and warranty.  We believe you get what you pay for, whether you pay up front for servicing or later down the road.
We are pleased with Tom Moffett plumbing and would recommend them.

With such a complicated large home repipe, there were a few minor issues, as any job of the sort would have.  I never worry about Tom's work tho, everything is always done to perfection.  They are easy to work with, professional and on-time!, great communication.  Have been happy with them for years, on my house and my rentals.

ly were going to charge me $500. extra for some of the work being in a difficult location, along with another  $500. for an expandable tank which cost me $43. at Home Depot.  I think this company needs to spend less on their red pressed uniforms and official estimate forms and more on customer satisfaction and work.  Now I understand why they need to charge for an estimate....perhaps that's all they do! BTW I had the work done for $960. elsewhere. Moffitt's estimate was roughly $3000.

i called on Memorial Day and was surprised to get a live person on the other end of the line.  She was very friendly and professional. I scheduled an appointment for the following morning to save a little money.  The technition called before his arrival and reported on time.  He was also very pleasant, clean and put on shoe covers before he entered my home.  He explained the problem to us and gave us a couple of options, one less than the other.  We had the troublesome drain snaked a few times and decided to have it jet cleaned.  The process is thorough and you can see the results before and after with a camera they insert. We also purchase Bio-smart drain support to help keep this drain cleaner.  He also gave us some helpful hints about garbage disposal use and keeping the drain a little more grease free. This repair would have been less but while we were trying to clean out the drain ourselves we dislodged the strainer in the sink and the whole thing was leaking so it needed to be repaired.  The technician Chis also checked our water pressure and offered to check our water heater at no charge but we had it checked recently by Moffett Plumbing in June  at which time we had our toilet repaired. The technicians at that time were very helpful as well. Since we have had such great experiences with Tom Moffett Plumbing and our home is growing older with us, we decided to sign up for there Diamond Club.  It is a great value, check it out.  I whole heart-idly  reccommend Tom Moffett Plumbing.

I want to run a gas line from the rear of the house to the patio.
There is a "tree" of pipes outside the back door, so tapping into the line is trivial.
I dug a trench, 18" deep, from the main line to the sidewalk leading to the patio. I tunneled under the sidewalk; I dug a trench on the other side of the sidewalk. All I need is someone to lay the pipe, a 6 foot rise and 22 foot run.
I called Tom Moffett Plumbing, and asked if they do this sort of work. Oh, yes, the person on the phone said. I'll have someone come out and speak with you.
She then said something to the effect of, "There is a fifty nine dollar charge for the visit."
I was a bit concerned at that. She went on to say it was non-refundable, and not included in the charges for any work performed.
Tom Moffett Plumbing seemed like an upright outfit, and had favorable reviews here on Angie's List, so I agreed, and made an appointment.
A great big, shiny, red truck pulled up in front of our house. I answered the doorbell and Bill introduced himself and his partner, Eddie (not their real names). I did the same, and we proceeded to the job site.
Bill was impressed with the trench, and said it wouldn't be hard to tap into it and run the line.
We sat down, and he brought out The Book. He opened the it and gave me The Spiel about Tom Moffett Plumbing: how they worked, how long they had been in business, a bit about Tom himself, etc. And then he turned to the Golden Page, the price list.
Whoa! There are ten categories of work, each with a corresponding cost. Bill said it eliminates the need for bargaining, and lets everyone know how to price a job.
Bill and I sat at the patio and he scanned the Page, wrote down some numbers, added them with a calculator and said, "We're looking at eleven hundred and sixty-six dollars."
That's $1166.00, folks.
Seriously? I said, "Seriously?"
NOTE: My wife provides product support for a job cost accounting system. I write code for said system. Together, we have sixty years of experience in the industry. She knows how estimators estimate (it usually involves some sort of voodoo), and I know how to make sense of their guesswork. Not once have either of us encountered anything like this.
We haggled for a bit, despite the Book. He went back to the truck and called someone about something. The final price to me was a bit less than nine hundred bucks ($900.00).
Bill asked Eddie how long it would take to do the job. "About three hours," he said.
I said, "Nine hundred dollars for three hour's work?"
Thanks, but no thanks; I ushered them out to their big, shiny, red truck.
I am sure Tom Moffett Plumbing would have done an excellent job. It had better be at that price. But I will never know.
