Examined unit, walked us through the whole process, and did the repairs. This is the second time we've used this company, and all our dealings with them have been great. They don't try to sell you anything more than you need; and are very easy to deal with.
Description of Work: Replaced fuses and installed a pre-start motor on air conditioning unit.

+ -1 moreAfter not being able to get hold of an AC guy I had used once before, I remembered seeing the Angie's List commercial I had recently viewed on TV. So after signing up for Angie's List and searching in my area for AC services I found Around the Clock Heating & AC which due to their high rating, discount, and large number of Reports was selected as the company to call. I called their number at 12:30pm on Saturday of a holiday weekend, but was pleasantly surprised have the phone answered by an actual person and not some automated phone system. They were able to get someone scheduled to arrive between 1 - and 4 pm. At 3:30pm the tech arrived and within 1 hour had identified the problem, corrected, and tested his work. It was a great over-all experience.
Description of Work: Troubleshot and identified the source of the service interruption-i.e. a faulty thermostat. Replaced the thermostat. Tested that the work done had corrected the service issue.

+ -1 moreI've had a hard time finding a trustworthy air/heating company -- and that's one of the reasons I signed up with Angie's List. This experience alone was worth the subscription fee. Igor showed up right on schedule -- professional and friendly. He quickly analyzed the problem, did a thorough check of the two air conditioning units and told me in detail (complete with pictures he took on his cellphone) what was working with my system, what wasn't, and what needed to be done to remedy the situation. He explained problems I might have in the future and what those would cost to address, but suggested those were just something to watch out for for the moment, that there was no need to go into that expense unless-and-until. He did the necessary work quickly and cleanly...and I frankly couldn't be happier with this experience.
Description of Work: The air conditioning unit stopped working during the recent wave of heat. They came, replaced a burned out fuse, installed a new condenser fan and a new capacitor...and I'm cool again.

+ -1 moreI called Around the Clock on Tues., August 26, 2008 at 5:30pm based on their reviews from Angie's List. I wanted them to take a look at an A/C that was not working at one of the properties that we manage. It is a single family home. The appointment was scheduled for tomorrow, Wed., August 27, 2008 between 11am-2pm. I informed the young lady, Christine (I believe that what she said) who was taking the order, what the problem was & that the resident would be at home to let the technician in. I told her we, the property management company, would take care of the initial service charge of $65.00 & based on the diagnosis from the technician, may authorize additional work. I told her that the resident is not taking care of the bill, but we would take care of it. She said they accepted credit cards. I said that was fine. She then placed me on hold. Another person came back and said he could not do business with us because we were a property management company and they DON'T do business with property management companies. I asked him why & he said because property management companies DON'T PAY THEIR BILLS! I asked him why would he say a thing like that, not even knowing me or the company I represent. He said that the owner of Around the Clock does not like to do business with property management companies. So I asked him if I was calling as an individual about my A/C not working, he would send a technician out to me immediately or ASAP, so what is the difference? He said that the person who gives the authorization is the person that must be there in person and pay! I said to him why wasn't that explained beforehand that the person who is paying needs to be there in person to meet the technician? He had no answer. I told him if that would have been explained to me as I was setting the appointment, I would have made arrangements to have a rep from our company there as well. Also, as a property management company and as a individual, I have paid for many things over the phone with a credit card, which is not unheard of. But, if this is not a company's policy or Around the Clock's, we would not have had a problem with paying in person, but this company did not say this upfront as well. To categorize all property management companies as deviate, distrustful, non-paying entities was so uncalled for, slanderous, discriminating and very unprofessional. We pride ourselves on being one of the best property management companies in southern California who has always paid their bills on time and have been in business for over ten years. For a company to have that type of attitude towards a new client & has never done business with us before is outrageous! I would not refer this company to anyone I know & believe you me, I know a lot of people. Please continue to let companies know that bad behavior/attitude & deplorable customer service will not be tolerated and the power of the pen & the internet will let others know about them.
Description of Work: CANCELED immediately due to deplorable and discriminating treatment by the company! As a property management company, we pride ourselves on using the best vendors as possible which in turn, make us very successful as well a making our vendors very happy with the new business we bring them. This is one of the reasons why we use Angie's List and have been a member for three years. This is the first time in our three-year history we had to write a report that is a negative review on a company. Please read the report below and you will understand why.

+ 0 moreI was a little leery of Around the Clock when their sales rep. came out to the house for an estimate. He did a cursory walk-thru of the house and then was gone. However, after getting estimates from several other contractors, the slightly higher price for Around the Clock's services turned out to be well worth it. Don't listen when other contractors tell you that their off-brand units are as good as Lennox. Lennox is the Mercedes of heating and cooling, and I've been very pleased. On the day of installation, Al, the owner of Around the Clock showed up with his crew exactly on time (maybe even a few minutes early). They were courteous, clean and fast. These guys knew exactly what they were doing. I have an older house from the '50s, and I was worried about placement of vents and the air in-take unit. My worries quickly faded when I saw the finished product. The vents look great, and the unit is extremely quiet. You would never guess that the house didn't come with A/C originally. The entire process--from duct installation to HVAC installation took a day and a half. Beautiful job, great guys. What more can I say?

If anything, they left the job cleaner than when they got there. Throughout the project, from ordering, to installation, to education, this company was superb.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced existing HVAC system including relocating unit from downstairs to upstairs attic, installed two-zone, energy efficient unit with electr. air cleaner, and installing all new ducts and vents.

They finished the work very fast-in just 2 days and it works beautifully. Al stopped by to make sure the required inspection went well. This really was a great experience.
Description of Work: Installed all new ducting, heating and air conditioning unit for 1300 sf house. Was expensive but I got very good efficient a/c and heater. They designed a 2 zone system and placed the vents just right so that my home is very comfortable. I am extremely happy with their work.

+ -1 moreOur air conditioner stopped working late Friday afternoon. Saturday morning we called a couple of companies. One sent someone out and told us they could have it repaired by the following Thursday. Around the Clock came Saturday morning, assessed the situation, and returned that afternoon with a new unit. They installed the new one and removed the old one. In addition, they offered a wireless thermostat which solved our problem of having our bedroom too cold. We can now move the thermostat for the perfect temperature in our room (and not the hallway where the old thermostat had been). They were professional and courteous and did a great job. We would definitely use them again and highly recommend them.

+ -1 moreThey arrived on time and started the removal of the old system immediately. About midway into installing the new furance and A/C system, a building inspector showed up and asked to see a permit for the job. It turns out they did not have one. They told the inspector that the owner was at the permit office now, pulling the permit (I don't think this was ture). The inspector toldl them to stop all work on the job until they had a permit. So one of the workers asked to get on my computer to pull a permit, which I let him do. The inspector left before he had the permit off the computer. The company told me to show the permit to the inspector when he returned tomorrow and they continued working on and finishing the job. They did really nice work. Cleaned up well, etc. They asked me to pay for the job, and I did. The next day the inspector came by and asked to see the permit and wanted to know when they were going to finish the job. I told him they were done and he said "did you pay them?" I said yes. He told me I was not to pay them until the work had been inspected. He asked me for a ladder to go up on the roof, but mine was not tall enough. He told me to ask Around the Clock to come over the next morning with a ladder so he could inspect the job. I called Around the Clock to request them to come over for the inspector and they told me it was not their job to supply the inspector with a ladder. The inspector came the next day, and did find a way up on the roof, and said every thing looked ok, the only problem was that the A/C unit on the roof was not braced in both directions and should be, but this did not effect his report. I would use them again, but make sure if permits are needed.

+ -1 moreThe service technician was Igor. He represents the company very well. He is clear and detailed in his communication. He is patient in helping me to understand what he's talking about. He's very nice and straightforward. I'm no expert on this, in fact I'm clueless, but the work he did on the repairs certainly looks better than how it looked the way the first company had left it. When there was a problem, the company was very responsive and I was impressed with how quickly they made time for me, both the first time I called for the second opinion, and when I had the problem a couple of weeks after they did the work. I felt that my happiness and satisfaction mattered to them, that they wanted my business, that they were ethical, and that it wasn't only about dollars and cents. They have high quality standards, the quality of their work is important to them and they don't cut corners. I appreciated that they have Saturday hours. That is one of the main reasons i called them, along with the mostly excellent reviews on Angie's List.
Description of Work: My 3 year old Lennox AC/heating package was leaking water earlier this month. The company that installed it told me it needed a $475 repair to replace a cracked drain pan. 3 years seemed too new to need such an expensive repair. I called Around the Clock to get a second opinion. I called on a Saturday and they had someone at my house in an hour. He went on the roof and after 5 minutes, came down and told me i did have a cracked drain pan, he made photos of that and other problems, including the need for a P trap and the need for supports for the drain line and a need to reconnect the return duct which had come loose. He said that to replace the drain pan would be $375 but that my needed repairs would cost much more because of those other problems which he characterized as due to improper installation by the company that installed the system (lack of supports for the drain line, lack of a P trap). He recommended I contact the company that did the installation and ask them to repair the problems, including the drain pan. He said i should not have to pay anything. The charge for this service call was $85. I called the company that installed the system and was told the unit didn't really need supports for the drain line or a P trap. I was told they would install the p trap and supports if it would make me happy, and they would reconnect the duct that came loose for $130 for a total of about $600. I chose to have Around the Clock do the repairs instead. What their guy had told me rang true. I checked, before making the decision, on an internet forum for air conditioning service techs and there was a consensus there that the Around the Clock guy was right about supports and traps, and that the other company apparently did a hack job (I posted photos). Around the Clock quoted me $750 which was about $150 more than the company that installed the system quoted, but I had no confidence in their quality standards, while i did feel confident in Around the Clock, based on what their guy told me was needed, confirmed by the guys on the forum. After this work was done, there was still some dripping from the unit. I called to report this and the Around the Clock guy came out within an hour and a half and found that something had clogged the drain line. There was a lot of water in a duct, from the water overflow caused by the clogged drain line. Around the Clock spent quite a bit of time removing the water (many gallons) and drying the area. Although the clog in the line was not due to any error by Around the Clock, I was not charged for the work to fix it. I included photos below showing before and after the repairs by Around the Clock. Before, the way the first company had it, the line was leaning over, there is duct tape hanging from it, it has no P trap, and the line is completely unsupported. After Around the Clock worked on it, you can see it's straight and sturdy and has a p trap and 2 X 4 supports of the drain line, it's made to last.

+ -1 moreWhen they arrived they listened to my story, and checked the heating unit in the garage. I had a problem in the metal housing unit of the garage. He checked the unit outside and said that the air conditioner was twenty years old and it was working as best it would work. I expected him to try and sell me an air conditioning system, but he discouraged me from changing my air conditioning unit until I had a failure. I appreciated that he was here to help me answer questions, and I was very happy with the service.

+ -1 moreThis was the first time I had used their services. I got the impression at first that he was trying to sell me a new A/C for $5000.00. He mentioned something about the A/C needed to be put on the roof so it would be quieter. I said I did not think that was necessary and he said that they would reduce the cost of the new system by $500 if it stayed in the same location. I did not want a new air conditioner and told him to just get it working. He went ahead and did the work in about twenty minutes. I did not come away from the experience with a warm feeling. I do not have a lot of experience with things and my impression was that it was a lot of money.
Description of Work: They put some Freon in my home air conditioner. He did some measurements to see how much power it was using as well.

Bob Gage, the salesperson, was extremely knowledgeable and talked with me multiple times in order to get the best possible unit for my home. The installers showed up on time, put in the unit, and left the area clean. Al, the owner, was great. He came to our home during the installation and remained until everything was complete. He checked to make sure the units were working correctly, and showed me how to use the thermostat. Around the Clock has excellent follow-up. They call when it's time to schedule regular maintenance, and I'm able to get an appointment within a day or so. I've already recommended them to numerous friends.
Description of Work: In Nov. 2006, Around the Clock replaced my 23-year-old heating unit and my ill performing air conditioning unit. (New units were top energy efficient models). They replaced all the ducts, registers and installed a new programmable thermostat. I also had them install an Aprilaire 5000 air cleaner.

+ -1 moreSales rep came to the house when he said he would. Looked at the system we had, took a few measurements of the unit inside the garage. Noticed that the return was probably not big enough but didn't see a solution. Sat down and wrote up the estimate as I watched. Did not inspect the ductwork in the attic as I said I thought I was happy with the existing ductwork. The salesman was very good at selling their system. He'd take off $2000 for this and give me a rebate of such and such dollars for that. The ending bid was about what I spent with the company that did get the job. Around the Clock's system was a little more efficient, but did not include some necessary ductwork that the other company suggested that I do. Bottom line is that I was faced with the choice of going with a company represented by a sales person or going with a company represented by the owner. I chose the latter. I'm sure this company would have done a fine job but I was more comfortable working with the owner.
