Southland Heating and Air Conditioning

Our home only had one gas wall heater, no duct work. So we needed a completely new HVAC system: furnace, AC, and ductwork. In fall 2015 we'd gotten bids from a few other well-rated companies that were extremely high. All were Lennox dealers. A few months ago I looked into other manufacturers like Trane, and discovered Southland, which had superb reviews on multiple websites. From my first meeting with Matt Alba, I knew the reviews were accurate. Matt was extremely professional, answering all of my questions in a clear, straightforward way, without any gimmicks or high-pressure sales tactics. Their bid was significantly less than the ones we received in the fall. And they were able to install the whole system in one day! Matt was similarly professional in finalizing our plan, scheduling our install date, and helping us coordinate with an electrician to have our electrical panel replaced the same day as the heating and AC install. The install day went extremely smoothly. Rudy, the site manager, was extremely professional, as was the rest of his crew. They worked very cleanly, covering our floors and furniture with tarps. They were very good at communicating their plans and their progress throughout the day. I found out at the end of the day they were down a couple workers, but were still able to get the job done on time with no hiccups. We've had the system installed for a few days and it works excellently! I wholeheartedly recommend Southland to anyone needing heating and AC work.

John Mattson was our consultant. He was straightforward and nice. The crew did all work efficiently and in only one day. There were a couple of things to take care of ( i.e. a grate got missed) and Michael came out and took care of everything. I can't comment on the price; I left messages on 6 different web sites. One didn't do Long Beach, one didn't didn't respond until 2 weeks later, and the other three didn't respond at all. We didn't get any other estimates, but we are happy with the work done and we liked everyone involved with the job.

I contacted 5 vendors to replace our old attic furnace and install air conditioning in our home. After careful consideration, we decided to contract with Matt Alba and Southland Heating and Air Conditioning. We purchased a Trane XV18 air conditioning unit because it was the quietest. Our houses are close together and I didn't want to be "that neighbor" who has the noisy unit. We also bought the Trane XC95 gas heater, and the F100 Honeywell Air Purification system. The ductwork was R8 rated. A new air return was cut into our ceiling as well. Matt promised the work would be completed in one day, and it was. His crew was prompt, polite and professional. All permits were pulled prior to the job by Southland. The electrical hookups lines had cord covers and the crew painted them to match the house. There were some hiccups. We participated in the Home Energy Upgrade rebate programs recommended by Matt. As part of the rebate, we had some asbestos removed from the attic. Matt quoted that the other company would charge $350. When the company arrived, it was $450. I called Matt and he kindly reduced the cost of Southland's job by $100. The other hiccup was discovered after the job was completed. The Southland crew dinged one of our lacquered hallway cabinet doors and marked up the ceiling when reinstalling the attic access panel. I called Matt and once again, Southland paid for the damages in full. The last hiccup was during inspection. The furnace was missing an additional set of feet to pass installation and the electrical panel was not marked. A tech from Southland came out and fixed it. We are very happy with the unit and installation. Our neighbor didn't even know we got an air conditioning unit until we told him. I would recommend southland in the future.

On the day of the job the workers were prompt, very organized, and everyone worked non-stop until the work was completed. Mr. Willie Torres, lead foreman and everyone on his work crew, from Southland Heating and Air Conditioning performed high quality work, were very efficient, and installed everything in much less than eight hours. Considering the amount of work that needed to be done, I was very impressed. This major heating improvement has already made a difference in the heating comfort, and it is certain that the energy savings alone made this upgrade worth every dollar spent. As a customer, if I had to do this all over again, my first and last choice would be Southland Heating and Air Conditioning.

Matt Alba was prompt in his response to us, came over within a day or two, and explained every aspect of the job--the equipment, the work needed, the rebates available, all financing options, and answered all our questions thoroughly and candidly. The estimate he provided was the lowest, but we really chose Southland because of Matt's professionalism. All the work was completed in one day, and Southland's team of installers (Rudy, Willie, Joe, George, Abraham, Fabian) was as thorough and professional as Matt. They consulted with us on every aspect, and really did a great job. We couldn't be happier. This is a great company, and we recommend them without reservation.

Ray, the owner, came out for a consultation and was very professional from the start. He was knowledgeable about all the products I inquired about and offered me lots of information so that I could make the best decision for my situation. I settled on a Trane heat pump and the installation was made 3 days later. The installers, Rudy and Vince, were fantastic. They were extremely professional, very knowledgeable, and answered every single question and concern I had. I had a leak in the previous heat pump unit and the air flow in the house was inadequate. Rudy was able to figure out the issues and was very thorough with his inspection and installation. Truth be told, Southland Heating and Air was the only estimate I got for the new Trane heat pump unit. After meeting with Ray, I had such a good feeling that I cancelled two other estimates. Their price and professionalism made me feel like I didn't need to go with anyone else. I am 1000% certain I made the right decision. I am so very happy I went with Southland Heating and Air. I would recommend them to anyone looking for any heating and air conditioning needs. Be sure to meet with Ray and have Rudy and Vince do the installation (although I am sure all of their installers are great).

We own a home built in 1957 that had no AC, an old FAU, and ducting wrapped in asbestos. We had about 5 or more quotes from other companies on Angie's List and Southland not only beat those quotes by 5k, but their work was excellent. They had the asbestos removed in a few hours and I didn't even have to leave the house. The HVAC was installed the next day in a matter of hours by a crew of guys who were extremely polite, punctual, and efficient. My new HVAC system is absolutely amazing, my house heats and cools off in minutes and the whole home air filter provides a huge difference in my air quality and even how the air smells when the heater is on. The most impressive issue by far, however, was the owner himself (Ray Mendoza).When Ray came over to do the quote he was completely and totally honest. When he was explaining things to me, I purposely played dumb, asked a lot of questions, and gave him plenty of opportunities to upsell me and never once did he try. He was totally honest about what I needed and never once took a chance at making more money. I had other companies try to sell me HVAC units that were too big for my house or high efficiency equipment that my climate zone didn't need. This told me that Ray and his company care more helping the home owner, then making more money. If you need HVAC, don't waste your time with any other company.

Jake tried diligently to replace my old unit. He thoroughly explained why it was impossible. He and his colleague were on time, courteous and professional in every way.
