The Bid Process
The sales guy (Keith) was knowledgeable, a little messy and a bit disorganized but explained FPR's process and its unique selling points - only company to create anchor points, only company to put final coat on top of fiberglass. After doing some reference checks we settled on the bid and were told the pool would be done between Oct/Nov but before Thanksgiving. No problem we were not swimming in it, it was too cold.
Recommendation to prospective customers: Get everything written down (we did) leave nothing to chance. (We didn't have any issues with what was promised is what we got)
The Scheduling Process
October came and went, not communication and eventually 2 weeks before Thanksgiving I called to check and was told they would start the week before. Unfortunately some rain on prior jobs so they eventually started the week of Thanksgiving.
Recommendation to FPR: Communicate start times and slippage better. Get away from such a manual system.
The Crew
The crew were here worked extremely hard and seemed to do a fantastic job. Only issue we had is that it took 4 weeks to complete (Keith, sales guy had said a week to two weeks). The manager of production (Jared) was MIA and we saw him only once or twice, but we felt in good hands with the crew. Only issue we had was one day the crew said they were being pulled off the job and with some frantic calls form us were assured that it was only for 1 day due to some "crisis" Not sure I know what the crisis was but crew came back the next day. During this process we got many "promises" that they would be finished in a few days (from Jared and Keith) but they were clueless. The crew leader told us it would take longer. It was a little strange to be told to have the check ready they were finishing tomorrow when actually they were 2 weeks away from finishing.
Recommendation to potential customers: If you have a specific deadline get it in writing when they will finish with some penalty for missing the date (Note they claim to charge $500 for any delay caused by the homeowner!)
Recommendation to FPR: Set more realistic start/end dates and communicate communicate communicate.
Jenny (Office Goddess)
I am not sure Jenny's official job but she is the face of FPR. She was always accessible via email or phone and tried to do her best to find out what was happening. She is really between a rock and a hard place since is Jared doesn't tell her what is happening she doesn't know. I do not envy her job, but appreciated that she heard our concerns and it seemed was always on our side.
Issue Resolution
We had one tile that they put brown sand on (looked terrible) and had to be removed. It took them 10 days to get that done with a lot of broken promises as to when they would come. I am hoping we don't have any other issues but I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Chlorine Genie
We went for their chlorine genie, installation and service from Bruce was a pain - came after we had already balanced the pool, then couldn't install it, came back following week and installed it, then we had a leak issue, 10 day wait till they came to fix that. System seems to be making chlorine, and working but with the pain of install not sure I can recommend the experience. Training on using the product was very poor but the manual is very good. Time will tell if I can recommend the product.
Summary:
Overall pool looks great, but it has only been a month. Communication and broken promises are the biggest issues, which really leave a bad taste in my mouth. I would recommend that if you use them: 1) Get everything written down including dates 2) be prepared to spend time managing them. Jenny holds the company together.
In the many years we had the spa we had no problems with it. now it is sitting empty and useless. :(
The Salt Chlorinator also leaked, the tubes kept falling out and leaking salt water on to our flowers and they would not refund or let us return it.
Worst experience ever.
We hope Angies list will help us find a reliable spa repair person to help us out of this mess & put us back in the hot water.
"It is unknown if the spa was functioning before we resurfaced it as it had been, in fact, empty for several years. We have learned from this experience to have customers with empty pools & spas sign a disclaimer as to the pool's condition before we perform any work. The disclaimer includes any known or unknown issues as to plumbing and pool equipment. This customer also took us to small claims court and lost. As with cars, there are some pools out there that are plain old lemons. The spa did turn out looking beautiful as that is our job. You cannot blame a car painting company if your engine has problems. We wish these customers well and are/were as frustrated as they are as to the outcome. We hope they do find someone who can solve their spa's problems so they can finally enjoy it now that it looks so pretty. Sincerely, Office & Production Manager, Fiberglass Pool Resurfacing, Inc."
They did the work that they promised for the amount they promised. They were on time, used good products, and gave excellent results. We are looking forward to use the pool for a very long time. The workers that came to do the work were excellent. They were neat, organized, timely, and courteous. There were no complications with the work or the workers. I would recommend them highly.
