Description of Work: AC not working. Found that freon had leaked out completely. Replaced refrigerant, tested systems. Cleaned condenser, cleaned blower, changed filters, programmed wall units and did it carefully yet quickly.

 + -1 moreThe installers performed their job well but the clean up process could have been better. There was still dust in areas that should have been vacuumed. The lesson I learned from this project is that noise levels can differ from one individual to another and to talk to others about the location of their furnaces.
Description of Work: They removed the old furnace from the garage and replaced the ducts which contained asbestos. An asbestos abatement company did the job efficiently and required only one day of service. During the selection of the different furnaces available, we were informed it was more energy efficient if it was installed in the attic. We took their recommendation but it was more labor intensive to install the unit in the attic as it required an adjustment to fit through the present opening. We also had an air conditoner installed. Upon completetion the air flow was extremely strong, that was adjusted satisfactorily. My biggest complaint is that I was not prepared for the noise level to be so high. It is more noticeable when I am upstairs and can be disturbing during sleep. Had I known that, I would have just kept the furnace in the garage. We recently had a warm day to test the air conditioner and it appeared to be ok. One of the registers in the living room was weak before the installation and was told that it would be stronger with the new furnace. We do not see an improvement. A rebate was offered by Lennox for $650 and all paperwork had be submitted by a certain date. Precise Air said they would take care of it. We waited for three months and notified them that we still had not received the rebate and after much calling, we were informed that they mailed it past the due date. Therefore, we received only $500 from Lennox. That was unacceptable on our part, so they offered to pay us the remaining $150 or a year of service for one year. We took the $150. This whole process took five months before it was settled.

 + -1 moreI got 3 bids on this project and ended up selecting another contractor. But I had a very positive experience with Precise Air and would definitely consider them for my future HVAC needs. Vigan came out and looked at the old gas furnace in the attic, looked at where the registers were, and looked at the outside condenser. He warned me that the current code may require me to move my condenser, but said he would talk to the city inspectors on my behalf to determine whether we could keep it there. He was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. His bid was very detailed, and included a list of all the rebates that the proposed system qualified for. He also happily provided quotes for other configurations that I asked about, providing his recommendations each time. He also asked to have an opportunity to meet lower bids from other contractors. I decided in the end to go with another contractor because they actually crawled into my attic and found that although it seemed like there was enough attic space initially (if you just poke your head in the attic), the space was actually too low and would have required repositioning the horizontal unit. But Vigan is someone I would definitely come back to if I have other projects.
Description of Work: Vigan came out to give an estimate for replacing my gas furnace and condenser. He did a visual inspection, did not take measurements for a Manual J load calculation, but his proposed system was the same size as the other bids I received.

 + -1 moreThe installation went smoothly, requiring about 8 hours of labor on the part of several individuals, directed by Ernie. The mini-split is now working well. If there are any problems, I will add a post at a later date with more details. The house in question is an 80 year old house in Atwater Village without central heating. The ductless min-split is a great solution for two of the interconnecting rooms.
Description of Work: Ernie from Precise Air Systems provided an assessment of our needs and then an estimate for installing a 12,000 BTU mini-split heat pump (heating/cooling) installation. The unit was a high efficiency, tax rebate qualified, heat pump from a well known Japanese company. I accepted the bid from Precise Air Systems for two reasons. First, they are an authorized dealer for one or two of the best (in my estimation) mini-splits, and so trained to do these installations. Second, the Precise Air estimate was less than that of two other companies. One of these estimates was much more and one was a little less than $1000 higher, for installing a lower quality/efficiency (but admittedly 18000 BTU) mini-split. The BTU difference should have resulted in less than $500 in price difference. These two other companies are highly rated by many Angie's List users. I am inclined to believe that the tax rebate program may have encouraged some installers to raise their bids for installation.
