My research for a good company that can come, load and unload my home content was not easy! There are so many company that do that, but my decision was to use Elite moving and storage because I had a great impression from donna that was able to explain to me everything about how it will work and the price that she was able to give me was good as well. My new house was in the same county so the move started and ended at the same day.
I didn't have any issue with non of the people that worked at my house and this was a huge plus.
The moved quickly and efficiently, wrapping up and offering to take stuff that we hadn't even thought of asking them to move. They brought blankets and plastic, and wrapped all of the big items we had, and some small ones. Highly recommended.
Thanks a lot, Juan and Marcus and the rest of the Team, for all the help! You're wonderful people!
I moved two previous times in Los Angeles since 2008, and moved from Texas in 2007, so I had a lot of fairly recent experience with moving companies. I was moving from a one story house, into a 3 level townhouse. The guys showed up at 10am. I had every book, toy, and electronic device aside from the 3 TV'S and their boxes packed. I had purchased about 7 empty boxes, two large rolls of big and small bubble wrap, and stemware boxes for all the glasses. I had a friend with me, so everyone began packing. I packed my entire closet contents and my friend packed my sons closet. We also packed up all the items in the garage and of course labeled all the boxes appropriately. We left after a few hours to get some more boxes and when we came back hardly anything else had been done. An hour later we needed to get lunch for everyone, so we left and when we came back, again hardly anything had been done. I expresses my concern to the foreman, and until at least 6pm that night, every hour he would say one more hour. They had to continue rearranging the furniture in the truck, and told me they couldn't fit any of my patio furniture, half the garage, and hadn't packed anything from one of the bathrooms so I would have to hire another company for those items. We finally left the house around 6 and arrived to the new house around 6:30. The foreman told me it would take until 10pm and nobody would do anything until I paid my bill of slightly over $2,000 immediately. I was charged $430 for packing materials. I had no choice other than to pay, but I knew at that moment I had been scammed.
By the time I signed all the documents, paid the money, and of course they were all hungry and wanted dinner so I fed them all again, it was around 8pm. It took them less than 2 hours to unpack. They were not able to bring my bookshelf upstairs into the office or my armoire from the living room upstairs. They completely cut off the leg to my only antique which was a 7 foot bench when unwrapping it. My friend overheard one of the movers tell the guy that cut off the leg he needed to tell me because he wasn't going to. At exactly10pm, the foreman said they were done and asked me for a tip. I apologized and told him I was unable to give anything else since I paid $1500 more than I had anticipated. The next morning my new neighbor came over to me and said the movers had left all the pizza boxes and beer cans in front of his house.
At the very least I assumed unpacking would be easy since they took 8 hours to pack, but to my surprise, boxes were labeled wrong, garage boxes were upstairs and upstairs boxes in the garage. Plastic items were excessively over wrapped and light bulbs were put together with no wrapping paper, etc. By the next night I had every box unpacked, and that's when I realized I was missing quite a few items. At this point, I decided to contact the owner. Every day Donna said I could speak with the owner Val tomorrow, but tomorrow took almost 2 weeks. Val seemed very nice, and told me I was the first customer in 20 years to complain about his company or about his foreman. He sounded so sincere about running his company in a professional manner and wanting to make sure every customer was happy, but he just couldn't understand how I was dissatisfied with his because everyone else had always been so happy. In all honestly, I believed him and thought my situation must have just been a fluke.
I decided to call Angie's list to cancel my account in frustration, but instead had a very nice representative really open my eyes. He immediately looked up the company and to my surprise told me they had a B rating with only 9 review, and several of them were extremely unhappy like myself. He explained that he would have never recommended a company with such a low score based on only 9 reviews. He said it's one thing to have a company with a B rating if they had hundreds of reviews, but quite something else if they had only 9. I ended up realizing Angie's List works very hard to have honest and honorable companies, but it's still up to the members to DO YOUR RESEARCH ON ALL COMPANIES!
At Val's request, I sent him my list of missing items which were:
- a wireless Apple mouse $69
- a 10 inch refillable candle. I had the smaller matching one. $50?
- all my serving plates which I told him weren't very expensive. 3 large, maybe 10 small. $95?
- a William Sonoma slow cooker $249
- the wine and champagne from the kitchen, not from the armoire. $250
These items totaled around $700. I also sent him the bill from the previous moving company that charged $1020 for 5 1/2 hours of packing/loading and 3 hours of unloading. They charged me $30 for packing material and unlike with Elite Moving, I didn't supply them with any packing materials. They charged an additional $200 to take a few furniture items to the store to be sold. That home that was sold for around
1.6 million. The house that Elite packed was sold for around $850,000. I mention this because Val continued to say I couldn't have possibly had the same amount of furniture at both homes, and I kept trying to assure him that I actually had more stuff prior to this move with him. I also reminded him I had to get a couple of guys the next day to pick up the remaining items left behind.
I never heard back from Val. In summary, workers represent and mirror their bosses, so it's no surprise that Val's employees are dishonest and unprofessional. PLEASE TAKE MY ADVISE AND TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. SOMETIMES IN LIFE YOU HAVE TO PAY A LOT, BUT AT LEAST YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. THAT'S NOT THE CASE WITH THIS COMPANY!
