We are still using Buck. It has gone very well so far. His prices are a little higher than most, but he is more than a "mow and blow" service. He is thorough and honest with his work. We are going to continue using him for monthly service and sprinkler fixes. He shows up when he says he will and he is also very "dog aware", which was important to us. I highly recommend Buck. I will say that you need to be just a little patient at times. I get the feeling we are a little out of his service area and get him when he can make it. Buck is an artist in demand. There is a reason for it--he does a beautiful job!

My husband was home and said they did a very good job. They cleaned up after themselves and the technicians were courteous. They also arrived on time and as scheduled.  Their prices were reasonable. We’re happy with their services and I would use them again.

All good things to say: free estimate, fair price, quick responses, arrived on time and finished all work to my satisfaction. Would also note that Buck is friendly, as are his team, and that he was able to advise me on a few ancillary items, such as flood lights.

Everything went very well. The trimming is beautifully naturalistic. Clean up perfect. Crew quiet, respectful, works hard. Buck barely uses the chainsaw! So it's nice and quiet, not disruptive in the least. I'm a perfectionist, so picky about my garden and my trees, and I was very satisfied.

Buck's been my landscaper for many years, and recently did the yearly major trim on a specimen ficus that is the focal point of my front yard. It hangs over a very delicate pond, and abuts my garage and some freshly painted redwood fencing -- so it needs too be done very carefully, with lots of tarps and even guys catching branches as they fall. He and his crew did their usual excellent job -- all hand cuts, no power saw butchery -- took them almost a full day but it looks like something in a gardening magazine. You'll find several longer reviews of mine further down this list -- at this point I don't even ask for estimates on yearly work, just do it on a time/labor/materials basis. Out of curiosity, I asked a neighbor who recently had a just-slightly-smaller ficus trimmed (and whose crew did a good job) what he had paid. It was $100 more than what Buck charged me. I've been updating my Angie's and Yelp reviews, and when I got to this one, I was surprised to see Buck had some recent negative reviews -- based on not returning calls, it seems. I do know he has been swamped with work this winter (mostly storm damage) -- and once he took two days to call me back, which was very unusual. With me, has always been very responsive, and even came out once on a Sunday when I had a sprinkler emergency. I am very, very particular about my property -- my exterminator once told me that the only other place he works that is as well maintained, is the Getty Museum! I went thru a lot a landscapers before finding Buck, and have been using him exclusively for about 7 years. He is the best and most consistent I have found.

After finding Buck on Angie's List, he came to our property and evaluated our urban landscape with us. We have a unique setup with absolutely no lawn and all of our trees in planters. We walked through the entire property and made recommendations on what we wanted. Buck was knowledgeable about all types of different plants and trees, what to expect when trees are under or over watered, etc. His knowledge really impressed me. He returned a proposal to us the following week for a complete overhaul of our tree planters (removing and replacing approximately half of the pepper trees, fertilizing all of the trees and replanting the surrounding carissa), box planters (removing the dead, replanting with new & fertilizing), pruning and replacing the ficus and cutting down the birds of paradise around our property. It was a very thorough proposal with an explanation in layman's terms that anyone could understand - not just green thumbs. Buck's work was complete daily (the job took one full week) and explained everything he was doing during the process. He showed up promptly every day and cleaned up after himself every day. His workers were tireless. On the final day of the job, Buck gave a lesson to my maintenance staff to show them what to do and how to do it. He also provided us with a list of materials we should get to help maintain the landscape while he wasn't here. We wanted to do a quarterly maintenance program with Buck after the initial overhaul but he suggested bimonthly. We agreed to do bimonthly maintenance for the first year and then drop down to quarterly after that. As a result of going bimonthly, he gave us an additional 3% off of our bill in addition to the 10% off we got for finding him through Angie's List. Buck wants to give his customers the most value for the price they pay. I say that we got that and more - we are extremely happy with his services!

Recent rains had caused the brush and weeds in our back and side yards to become difficult to manage. We also had two trees that needed removed, and a palm that needed pruning. Buck was friendly, punctual, informative, and easy to work with. His price was consistent with what we expected from our research. He and his crew did a beautiful job and got the work done in one day. They left the good plants safely intact, cleared the brush and weeds, cut three rows of palm fronds, and removed a couple dead trees. They cut the weed trees down to 4". They left all areas very clean. We were very pleased with everything: from making appointments all the way through the job and settling up afterward.

Hollywood Tree Service was very prompt. I called for an estimate and my call was returned promptly. I was asked to email a photo of the problem, and was provided an estimate. When HTS came several days later, they did the job nicely and charged me less than the estimate, based on the job taking less time than expected. It was easy and convenient to communicate with HTS, and a pleasure dealing with it. Thank you.

Buck followed quote up with an email, then let us know he was on his way when the job date was confirmed. His workers were polite, professional and efficient - taking care not to damage plants and cleaning up very well. The job was done in no time at all considering the amount cut down, but also done properly with no short cuts. We have already arranged to have Buck and his team back next year and will continue to use and pass his name on. Overall a professional job done by a man who knows and loves his work!

I'd let the back area which is mostly hardscape with potted plants get out of control. I called Buck for an estimate and he got back to me within a day. He gave me three prices. Both front and back or just front or back which was great. I decided to start with just the back. Buck followed up the in person visit with an email with a detailed estimate of all the jobs to do. I approved the estimate and he set up the job for the first Monday back after the holidays. So Buck and his guys trimmed about 4' from a eugenia hedge, trimmed the creeping fig on the guest house and pruned several fruit trees. In addition they cleaned up weeds from the trees in pots and threw away a few dead plants that were hanging around. Then they mulched the trees both in the ground and in pots. In fact, they had some extra mulch and asked me if I wanted them to put it on the fruit trees in the front yard. What a great way to start the new year!

It was a small job and I gave them an open date to just do it whenever they could fit it in. They ended up running a little bit late, but they called to let me know and dropped the price even further. I was really happy with their work.

They showed up right on time and let me know they were ready to start. They worked hard and did a great job, filling up at least one truckload of branches, plants, and debris from my yard. Buck answered all of my questions and advised me on what to do next (sprinklers, lights, mulch, etc.). He was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. There were a few nooks and crannies behind planters, etc. that seemed to be missed when they were cleaning up fallen leaves, and Buck came back within a couple days so I could point out these areas. I hired his crew for weekly service, and everything was great the next time they came out.

With regard to the landscape project, I originally needed a thorough "clean out" of plant growth so that the house painters could get to everything. Buck and his crew ably performed that work, and we started talking about how to improve my sadly neglected yard. I knew I needed a new sprinkler system, but had been putting it off, because I didn't know who to get to put it in. What a happy surprise to find out that it was part of Buck's services (I had only previously used him for tree trimming and major lawn clean out). After installing the sprinkler system, we then put in new plant beds all around the house, which are now thriving (I get many compliments). I'm sure they thrive because Buck continues to take care of them (if it were me, everything would be dead by now!). Anyway, the upshot is that I really like working with Buck. He's responsive to my needs (and responding to one sump pump emergency I had early on) and very easy to talk to. He also is proactive, letting me know what needs to be done, when, and why (and I need that!). When water restrictions hit last Spring, he called me to talk about mulching the plant beds to help keep them moist, an investment (and it was quite reasonable at about $200 or so, if I recall correctly) that has paid for itself over and over again already, as I am under my summer water allotment and everything is still alive. In this land of "mow and blow" gardeners and yard service, I am thrilled to have Buck taking care of things. I would recommend him to any one. His monthly yard care fee is a little higher than some, but it includes fertilizing, weeding and feeding my roses. When I calculated it out, I'm not spending any more than I used to with my old gardener who would nickel and dime me on these "extras."

Buck, who is also does my regular yard/garden maintenance , has recently completed a series of projects intended to both beautify my Los Angels hillside property (approx.8000 sq. ft. of yard and hardscape) -- and also to deal with the realities of water and energy shortages (and costs!) which seem to be a permanent new reality. The results have exceeded my expectations. First, the place is gorgeous, and the looks have in no way been compromised by the more drought-tolerant plantings and dryscape. My water usage is dramatically lower, my electric bill has decreased, and I have a yard I can enjoy in new ways on many levels. A great experience and a great outcome!

Very pleased with Buck and his crew. I called them on a friday mid-day. He came out that afternoon to take a look and give me an estimate on the spot. He said he was able to have a crew out here the next morning. After doing a little more research and calls to other contractors, I called Buck back and hired him. His crew was there at 8am sharp, had the job completed at the early end of his estimated finish-up time. He wheed-whacked my parkway, which we hadn't arranged for, and cut down some branches from a tree that I asked if he could do, neither of which were part of the original estimate, and neither of which he charged me extra for. I'm a relatively new homeowner, so I'm not that able to compare his pricing to past experiences with landscape contractors, but it seemed fair to me. He was friendly, straight-forward, and efficient. I'd definitely hire him again, and recommend him to friends.

Outstanding service in every way. Buck is extremely professional, courteous, punctual, knowledgeable and honest. Phone calls were returned in a timely fashion. Any change in plans was always preceded by a phone call. I was totally confident in his experience and ability. The work was performed just as we discussed. Buck is up front about everything. I would not hesitate to use this company again. I recommend this company to anyone looking for any kind of landscape work whatsoever.

Great! Buck responded immediately to my call and was able to do the work within about a week. Once he started, even after I added to the project, he was still able to finish the work within several days. He not only was able to fix my pond, but it looks better than ever. In addition, he suggested new plants for several areas in my yard - with everything meeting and exceeding my expectations.

I use these guys for monthly lawn/yard maintenance BUT ALSO for all the other jobs listed. The price I mention is a monthly amount for all of this work, averaged over a year-but it varies from year to year (5 years and counting) depending on which larger projects are involved. There is no question in my mind that they give great value-for-money (which is not the same as being the cheapest around). They are absolutely the best at ALL of this stuff that I have found in my 26 years of LA home ownership. Buck and his crew are dependable, CLEAN, show up on time, and go way past the mow-blow-go which is standard in their line of work, even on their regular weekly rounds. I am extremely detail-oriented (OK, very picky is more like it)-but I think Buck may be even pickier than I am! My yard has gone from being "very nice" to "wow-who does your landscaping?" nice. I have had people actually ring the bell and ask who I used. I like the fact that Buck has real expertise in many areas-but also knows when to call in a specialist (like building a masonry fountain), and he knows other craftsman of equal quality to himself. He's also a really nice guy with a great sense of humor-and if you're really lucky, maybe you'll get a couple of fresh eggs or tomatoes from his own garden. I spent 20 years looking for somebody like this-take advantage of all my hard work!
