I had minor trouble getting in touch with Buck.  It took him two or three days to respond to my initial efforts to contact him.  When he arrived, I walked him around the yard, telling him I wanted someone who knows how to trim bushes, trees, etc.  He seemed knowledgeable and I looked forward to having him work for me.  His rates are reasonable.  I had two specific jobs which we agreed required immediate attention.  He told me he couldn't do the work that day, in part because he didn't have the tools necessary with him to trim a thick tree branch, but that he would call me to tell me when he would be able to do the jobs.  I never heard from him again.

Date is approx but early spring this year I Contacted Bucks Landscape Maintenance for weekly lawn maintenance, left message, no call back. Contacted again, Buck called back within 24 hrs, made appt to see property and provide estimate next day. Buck showed up on time, even a bit early. He stated that he did not provide weekly service but monthly service. I was concerned about lawns being mowed just once a month and he stated that his clients have their husbands or boyfriends do that. I have neither. He also said that he has 3 to 4 guys working for him and monthly care takes 2,3 or more hours till its done and that works out fine. The $60.00 an hour quote was more than double what I had been paying for weekly service including lawn mowing but I liked him, he seemed knowledgeable and said ok, let's give it a try.  He was to start following week but was having family problems and would call me Mon or Tues of following wk to set up schedule.  He never called.  In light of his family problems I waited 2 weeks before contacting him again. Left a message but no return call.  Waited another wk, Buck called next day, apoplogized, said he forgot about me. Said he'd call Thurs or Fri to set time. Never did. Another week, another message, no return call.  Left one more message even saying that if his schedule was too busy to pls be professional and let me know that, after all I was calling him as an Angie's List provider I thought that meant something. He has never returned ny calls.  To have someone with an "A" rating and a Super Service Award be so rude and negligenthas been so disappointing. I joined Angie's List to avoid this awful kind of service. I'm hesistant to try again but I will and hope to be writing a wonderful glowing review instead of another one like this.

"Hello, I actually do remember this job and you .... i am terribly sorry about what happened i had given your info to my forman and never looked back... that was when my father was going down hill and i was going between here in the valley and to sacramento 1-2 times per week. my fathers health was a yo yo then all of a sudden he was gone and i didnt work for awhile trying to deal with all that i had to and my emotions. when i came back i only did my regular repeat work for sometime as since we used to work togther it was really hard on me. I do hope you have found soemone good for you and im sorry you thought our rates where high. i do pay my guys decently as i dont expect them to live in poverty. Thank you, Hope it worked out... I was up and waiting at 7 am.  I agreed to the 7 am appointment to accommodate him.  Around 8 he finally called me back after I had called every number I could find for him.  I reached out to him and he said he would be here in the next hour.  He never once showed.

"Hello I am very sorry for you inconvience. In April and may I was mostly out of town dealing with my fathers health. He actually passed away in june he went down hill quickly. I will find out what happened my work associate for some reason missed a few appointments in this time as he wasn't as proficient as I in dealing with jobs in progress and estimates. Again I apologize. I wish you would of called back to let me know. I would of offered great discount for our err."

He drove past my home and said that the lawn work would cost $250.00. I would prefer an experienced gardener, but the quoted price from Buck's Landscape Maintenance was far too high for a small lawn. There was also no room for negotiation; which showed me that he was not eager to do the work.

"I'm sorry I didn't call you back. When I got home from school I had a family issue come up and I simply forgot. I'm happy you found some one to work with though and sorry for the distress I caused you. If every customer I successfully worked for left a note here I'd be great. But lately the only people to leave a Message here they only have issues with my phone calls or lack there of. I field 60-70 calls a day and generally my organization is good as you don't see this happening often on my acct. I wish future customers will give some one the. Benefit of another call as you never know why they may have Missed your call back. I'm sorry"

We were very excited about working with Buck because he is extremely knowledgeable about gardening! Unfortunately, responsiveness was very poor despite our repeated efforts, and ultimately we were forced to look for someone else.

My apologies please call to reschedule if you would give me that chance. I really wish you would o called me right when I mIssed it. It really is not fair to damage someone's permanent record over a missed estimate. It's nearly impossible to get it removed as its happened once before. Thank you, Buck"

We are still using Buck. It has gone very well so far. His prices are a little higher than most, but he is more than a "mow and blow" service. He is thorough and honest with his work. We are going to continue using him for monthly service and sprinkler fixes. He shows up when he says he will and he is also very "dog aware", which was important to us. I highly recommend Buck. I will say that you need to be just a little patient at times. I get the feeling we are a little out of his service area and get him when he can make it. Buck is an artist in demand. There is a reason for it--he does a beautiful job!

Made appointment to trim 2 large hedges.  I described the exact size and location of the hedges when the appointment was made. I believe it was the owner, Buck that I spoke with.  Told him our address and asked when he could come and take a look and give us an estimate.  I also told him we needed it done asap and asked, once he saw the job could he do it right away.  He said yes and made the appointment for this morning between 8-10.  I told him that we had to leave no later than 10 so if he could not make it then lets make the appointment for another day.  He said he would make the appointment, no problem.  At 9:20, when he still was not here I called to make sure he would be coming since we had to leave right at 10.  He answered the phone and at first did not know who I was even though I said my name and said we had an appointment this morning.  He then said he had car troubles and was waiting for AAA.  I asked why he didn't call to let me know he could not make - he then asked me what the job was - since I had told him originally when we made the appointment, it was a bit upsetting for him to then say that now the job was too big for him and that he was very busy and couldn't do it anyway.  He should have told me that originally then it would not have caused me a week's delay and total waist of my time.  Very unprofessional.

"The reason I was late was I was in sherman oaks at my last estimate where I just recieved a large job to start monday. When I went out to my truck and started it at approx 8:55 the battery was dead. I called AAA they said within 30 mins. I figured that to mean before 9;30 which is perfect as I was only 15 min away from her est. and I would be on time. When she called me I was obviously flustered with my truck not starting with a newer battery. She was so mad she never let me explain my predictament or the fact that I should be there at least 15 min before she had to leave which in my work 15 min is more then enough time to look and give price. As far as not remembering her job goes I get 10-15 calls a day with people describing their job. I work for first to hire me first to get work done. At the time of her calling for an estimate I had time to do her work. The est. I just came off of is for 6 days of work and at my earlier est at 7 am I was hired for 2.5 days work, so my schedule filled quickly yesterday. I am sorry she was inconvienced but as a smart small business owner I do first hired order for my work. I treat everyone as important as the other and will not charge or accpet more money to bump my schedule. I try to be a fair business owner to all my customers. In my experience anyone who flys off the handle as she did is not some one I want to work for as this attitude is soemtimes violent verbally or other wise. I treat my employees with respect and try not to put them in bad situations. She flat out hung up on me before I could tell her I would still be there on time and depending on how long it would take to do the job I might be able to fit it in. In parting here I average approx 3 jobs a week from this service which typically is great there are just a few bad apples. I also wish more of my satisfied customers would come back and say how good the job was. Thank to all who do. Buck"

Everything went very well. The trimming is beautifully naturalistic. Clean up perfect. Crew quiet, respectful, works hard. Buck barely uses the chainsaw! So it's nice and quiet, not disruptive in the least. I'm a perfectionist, so picky about my garden and my trees, and I was very satisfied.

Buck's been my landscaper for many years, and recently did the yearly major trim on a specimen ficus that is the focal point of my front yard. It hangs over a very delicate pond, and abuts my garage and some freshly painted redwood fencing -- so it needs too be done very carefully, with lots of tarps and even guys catching branches as they fall. He and his crew did their usual excellent job -- all hand cuts, no power saw butchery -- took them almost a full day but it looks like something in a gardening magazine. You'll find several longer reviews of mine further down this list -- at this point I don't even ask for estimates on yearly work, just do it on a time/labor/materials basis. Out of curiosity, I asked a neighbor who recently had a just-slightly-smaller ficus trimmed (and whose crew did a good job) what he had paid. It was $100 more than what Buck charged me. I've been updating my Angie's and Yelp reviews, and when I got to this one, I was surprised to see Buck had some recent negative reviews -- based on not returning calls, it seems. I do know he has been swamped with work this winter (mostly storm damage) -- and once he took two days to call me back, which was very unusual. With me, has always been very responsive, and even came out once on a Sunday when I had a sprinkler emergency. I am very, very particular about my property -- my exterminator once told me that the only other place he works that is as well maintained, is the Getty Museum! I went thru a lot a landscapers before finding Buck, and have been using him exclusively for about 7 years. He is the best and most consistent I have found.

After finding Buck on Angie's List, he came to our property and evaluated our urban landscape with us. We have a unique setup with absolutely no lawn and all of our trees in planters. We walked through the entire property and made recommendations on what we wanted. Buck was knowledgeable about all types of different plants and trees, what to expect when trees are under or over watered, etc. His knowledge really impressed me. He returned a proposal to us the following week for a complete overhaul of our tree planters (removing and replacing approximately half of the pepper trees, fertilizing all of the trees and replanting the surrounding carissa), box planters (removing the dead, replanting with new & fertilizing), pruning and replacing the ficus and cutting down the birds of paradise around our property. It was a very thorough proposal with an explanation in layman's terms that anyone could understand - not just green thumbs. Buck's work was complete daily (the job took one full week) and explained everything he was doing during the process. He showed up promptly every day and cleaned up after himself every day. His workers were tireless. On the final day of the job, Buck gave a lesson to my maintenance staff to show them what to do and how to do it. He also provided us with a list of materials we should get to help maintain the landscape while he wasn't here. We wanted to do a quarterly maintenance program with Buck after the initial overhaul but he suggested bimonthly. We agreed to do bimonthly maintenance for the first year and then drop down to quarterly after that. As a result of going bimonthly, he gave us an additional 3% off of our bill in addition to the 10% off we got for finding him through Angie's List. Buck wants to give his customers the most value for the price they pay. I say that we got that and more - we are extremely happy with his services!

Buck did not show up for first appointment. No call. Nothing. Rescheduled. He was a very nice guy, but seemed not to really know his business. Did not know the types of trees I had. His advice was not in line with the other estimates I received. His price was fine, but his knowledge was not.

The price he gave us for the tree removal was $400. I got another provider to do the same work for $250 (no haggling, just got a second quote). And getting rid of the eucalyptus was going to cost us what Buck said was their company minimum, $250. This is something I wanted done correctly, and so I agreed to the price. I'm not exaggerating when I say I called them to book their services at least half a dozen times, and I never received a call back. I made it clear -- they could choose any time they'd like, Buck knew what had to be done, just come and do it. He even does weekly landscaping for someone down the street from us. Well, it's been well over 2 months, and I was so busy at work I didn't have time to call anyone else, and now we're smack dab in the middle of the rainy season. Buck never called back, the work still needs to be done, and the trees have gotten bigger. I'll be finding someone else ASAP. But watch out with these guys -- their lack of professionalism when it comes to simply returning a phone call is astounding!

Contacted Hollywood Tree service to get an estimate for work. Buck did not show up on the date he indicated he would and did not call to reschedule. I reached out to him again, he said he wasnt able to perform estimate because he had an ill employee and he would go by my house the following day and call me with the estimate. He never called me the next day or any day since. I ended up having the work done by Canada Tree Service and was very pleased with their customer service orientation and performance. I could not recommend Buck or Hollywood Tree Service due to the poor customer service/follow up.

Recent rains had caused the brush and weeds in our back and side yards to become difficult to manage. We also had two trees that needed removed, and a palm that needed pruning. Buck was friendly, punctual, informative, and easy to work with. His price was consistent with what we expected from our research. He and his crew did a beautiful job and got the work done in one day. They left the good plants safely intact, cleared the brush and weeds, cut three rows of palm fronds, and removed a couple dead trees. They cut the weed trees down to 4". They left all areas very clean. We were very pleased with everything: from making appointments all the way through the job and settling up afterward.

Hollywood Tree Service was very prompt. I called for an estimate and my call was returned promptly. I was asked to email a photo of the problem, and was provided an estimate. When HTS came several days later, they did the job nicely and charged me less than the estimate, based on the job taking less time than expected. It was easy and convenient to communicate with HTS, and a pleasure dealing with it. Thank you.

Buck followed quote up with an email, then let us know he was on his way when the job date was confirmed. His workers were polite, professional and efficient - taking care not to damage plants and cleaning up very well. The job was done in no time at all considering the amount cut down, but also done properly with no short cuts. We have already arranged to have Buck and his team back next year and will continue to use and pass his name on. Overall a professional job done by a man who knows and loves his work!
