He kept me waiting and waiting and waiting. Got lost even though I had provided explicit instructions on how to get to my home. I called the ofice twice to confirm that they had given him the directions. Was rude when he called to say he was lost, and then hung up on me. I called the office and cancelled the appointment.

I had purchased an Angie's List Big Deal to have my water heater refurbished for $189. Mr. Gilbert Aguinaga of Action Services came out and confirmed that I did not need all that is included in the refurbishing price. He flushed the water heater, confirmed its condition and replaced the valve so I can flush it more easily in the future. He charged me for the service call and the cost of the valve, and he refunded the Big Deal price that I had paid in advance. This is what Angie's List is really good at - matching an ethical service provider with a customer who would like to know that provider's reputation.

I purchased an $89 certificate for 3 hours of handyman services. I had a list of eight items I wanted attended to, in priority order, to fit into the 3 hours. The work was to get our rental property ready for showing. It took the handyman two and a half hours to hang the screen door ! When he was finished, there was a one half inch gap at the top and another gap on the hinge side of the door. I might as well not have had a screen door. It looked fine from the outside, and I did not see the gaps until the handyman had left and I went inside the house and looked out. Of my eight items, 4 were completed in the three hours -- two and a half hours to hang the screen door, one half hour or less to saw off an old gate post, remove about a foot of dead wire from the patio ceiling, and cover an old dead wasp hole nest opening with an outdoor electrical wall plate. In all fairness, when I called Action Services to report this, they were very responsive and sent the same handyman and an assistant to fix the problem. Since the door frame had already been cut for the initial installation, it was not possible to rehang the door properly. So the fix was to install narrow wood molding in the door frame to close the gaps. They did this satisfactorily, filled in the old hinge and latch holes with wood putty, caulked and painted the frame. There is still a very narrow gap, but I think it will keep out the insects. I have only the highest praise for Maria in the office, who was very helpful in scheduling both the initial appointment and the follow-up call, so that we could have the house ready for rental. Thank you, Maria. And I praise the company for promptly fixing the inferior job that was done initially. Even though the experience was ultimately satisfactory, I probably will not use this company again. I would choose a company that is more local to me, as there was considerable delay (for my needs) in getting the initial appointment.

A special was offered on Angies List for a toilet replacement that included the new toilet and installation and removal of the old toilet for $199.00. I printed out the coupon and the company it showed to call was Action Services in Long Beach. I called them and scheduled the service to be done on 2/28/12. The plumber was to be here between 8:00am - 12:00 pm. I received a phone call from Action that he was on his way. He arrived at 9:00am and was finished by 9:30am. The service was great and the new toilet works perfect. The plumber was friendly and cleaned up the bathroom and took the old toilet with him. Great experience!

The plumber did a good job clearing the drains and the main line, and he was clean/tidied up behind him. However, in clearing the sink drains, the stopper valves on two of the three sinks were loosened and leaks developed when we used the sink subsequently. The leak from one of the sinks in particular caused some water damage and warping to an adjacent drawer, which led to the drawer sticking. Once I called Action Services and spoke to the owner, John, personally, he took steps to make things right. By the next day, he had one of his construction staff at the house to repair the leaks, and also planed the sides of the drawer to fix the sticking problem. I am happy with the resolution, even though it caused a bit of inconvenience. A quick note about the punctuality... For both the initial service (90 minutes late after a 4 hour window) and for the follow-up repair visit (1 hour late for a 90 minute window), the service reps showed up late past the initial service window. To be fair, they called early and often to update me about the status. It nevertheless made me late for my other appointments following the service call. However, plumbing repairs are often unpredictable, so I would recommend leaving plenty of extra time window for your service call.
