The appointment process was pretty good overall. It took way shorter to get on their calendar than a non-angieslist.com Handyman. The contractor showed up a bit early, which was fine, but I was just getting home and really needed the extra time to get setup for him. The handyman quickly finished the first task without any questions. Each task after that had some sort of challenge associated with it. Fortunately with a little coaching and gentle nudging, I was able to move him past his roadblocks. Also, I would have expected him to come with a larger set of tools. I was also hoping to get more accomplished in the 3 hours. Overall he was a nice guy, but given my experience with Angie's List contractors in the past, I had way higher expectations.

I have given them about a month to schedule an appointment. They said that they wouldn't be able to make it to my neighborhood for about a week. Once they came, they said that they needed to order some parts. They said they would call me the next day. I waited about 4-5 days before reaching out to them and they explained they still wouldn't be able to complete the work for another week.

First of all I got a call from the person saying he would be late. I thought he meant 5-10 minutes late. He arrived one and a half hours later. I thought well, he must be staying later to fill out the extra time he is making me wait. I showed him the areas I wanted caulking and showed him the areas I thought needed new grout. He proceeded to do the caulking around the kitchen sink and two bathtubs which barely took an hour. I showed him the grout behind the kitchen sink which had begun to mildew from water being splashed. He said I could get a metal scrubber pad and get the mildew out and then applly grout sealant. He did not offer to do this even though we had plenty of time left on the work order. When I mentioned the shower tile grout, he proceeded to scrape the mildewed grout but he did not offer to put in any new grout even though I had bought that in anticipation of work being done. He said afterwards I would need to take out the tile in order to grout properly. I was thinking he would at least take time to put in the grout, since I had 2 hours left on my order. But no, he left it at that. My husband saw the job he did and was appalled that we had to pay for this kind of work. We will be very careful about the people we sign up for on the "Big Deals" list from now on because this was a huge disappointment and waste of time and money.
Description of Work: This was one of Angies List "Big Deals" which I signed up for. I didn't read the review that said they had a bad experience involving ceramic tile. I was told on the phone that I needed to get my own grout for the job, otherrwise the company would charge me an additional $85 for them to go out and get it. The person arrived 11/2 hours late and barely did the minimum caulking around the kitchen sink. There was some stains in the back which I asked him about and he said I could get a metal scrubber and take it off myself. He did not offer to do it even though there was plenty of time left (still 2 hours left on my order). I showed him the grout in my shower area and he proceeded to scrape it out but he did not do any further work on it.

I would have expected the professional to take responsibility for doing a good job. My bathtub was backing up. The technician pulled out one clog which sorted the lower level sink. After he had gone when we checked upstairs that was still backing up. My roommate had to get RotoRooter to come and clear it again and they pulled out two more lumps. Action Services Inc were very good on the phone which is why they get a D.

On January 9th Actions Services arrived on time and installed a tankless water heather that I had requested. I had out of town guests and was not as involved in the process as I would have been. Unfortunately the technicians didn't bother to check with me before running the additional plumbing lines required for the job; they took the "path of least resistance" which was NOT an adequate installation, in addition they did not bother to clean up after themselves. They left two 70 lbs rolls of carpet that had been stored on the rafters of my garage just laying on the ground. I'm a female, head of household and I weight 125lbs. I had to climb up 4 ft on a ladder with 70lbs on my back twice!!!!!! to store them back up on the rafters!!! A few days of the installation I called back to get the plumbing lines re-directed and to complain about the fact that, in spite of the recirculating pump, it was taking an extra ordinate amount of time for warm water to reach the fixtures. The hot water delivery should have been instantaneous. I paid an extra charge to get them to make the changes that I wanted and Gil's solution to the issue with the delay in hot water delivery was to increase the temperature of the water heater and recommend that I purchase an improved recirculating pump. Well 6 months later, the situation with the timing of hot water delivery NEVER improved and in spite of my water softener, I notice that my water was feeling hard. I thought I had a problem with my softener . . . long story short, the water softener company sent their technician out and he pointed out the "FACT THAT THE PLUMBERS HAD ERRONEOUSLY INSTALLED THE WATER LINES TO FEED THE WATER HEATER WITH HARD WATER, COMPLETELY BY-PASSING THE WATER SOFTENER" it means that the hot water in my house is hard (the water heater is supposed to feed from "the soft water" line) Action Services faulty installation has placed in JEOPARDy MY WATER HEATER WARRANTEE. So I did my due diligence and called NORITZ, they provided me with the name of several experienced plumbers, I called three of them, who came out and (without me pointing out the problem of the water softener) detected the issue, in addition, all three reps noticed that the recirculating pump installed by Action Services was on the WRONG line!!!! Bottom line, Action Services is not trained to deal with anything other than BASIC, SIMPLE plumbing issues. What is alarming is the lack the INTEGRITY TO ADMIT that jobs, such as mine, are beyond their scope. FYI, i had to spend an additional $1800.- to repair their work

Very badly! I will never deal with this company again! Consumers beware! Purchase at your own risk!
Description of Work: I purchased two hours of service for $89.00 and made an appointment for today, 6/2/2012 between 0800-1200. At first the company was professional and did not have any problem making the appointment. However, NOBODY told me that I was supposed to confirm or call back ON THE DAY OF APPOINTMENT. I normally am used to making service appointments and expect someone to come as agreed upon. This is the first time this has happened. As agreed, my Mom and I are here today waiting for the plumber to come. I left at 10 am but gave instructions to my Mom what to say/do/give to the provider of service. Everything was ready and within reach. I came home at 1130am expecting the service has been performed but no one showed up. I turned on my phone and received 2 voice messages. One was the person to do the service and another of a woman that says that if I do not call in 10 minutes (at 0830) then I will be rescheduled. Needless to say, I am very angry and disappointed. First of all, they are SUPPOSED to give clear and precise instructions. If I had known that they will call the day of, then I would have anticipated the call and called back.

Response from Action Services Inc
In every service call, Action Services monitors the dispatch of our plumber/technicians and we have encountered that in some cases upon arrival to a service location, there is no one on job site. Since we give a 4 hour window upon arrival of our tech/plumber, we now call the customer before dispatching our techs to confirm the appointment, make sure customer is on-site and let the customer know tech is on his way. This prevents from miscommunications and any time being wasted since there are more service calls to attend to. If there is no answer, we let them know to please call and re-schedule. In this case, our plumber called customer at about 7:30am and our office called at about 8:30am. This gave the customer more than an hour to call back and confirm someone was on-site.

From the first call to Action Services I was not happy. I bought the big deal for $89 for two hours of plumbing service. I described my problem to whom I can only assume was the receptionist since she didn't seem very knowledgeable. I told them I had a leaky toilet and clogged tub. Since they don't provide materials only labor on this deal I asked if I could speak to a plumber before hand so I could know what exactly I needed to buy for the plumber and explain the problem so he could do the repair. They said I couldn't speak to a plumber before hand and that I should take a picture of my toilet and go to a store like Home Depot and describe the problem to them and then have them tell me what materials to purchase. They said the plumber would probably have the materials on his truck but there is no guarantee. So I again asked if I could speak to a plumber to make sure that I would buy exactly what he needed for my particular toilet. and they said no, a plumber wouldn't be available until the day of the visit. Well after having to wait quite a while for an appointment because they wouldn't have anyone in the Los Angeles area for a while, I finally got my appointment booked. The day of the visit came and they told me they had to reschedule because all of the plumbers called in sick. I don't know how many plumbers they employ but it is ridiculous that they wouldn't have a single plumber available. So I rescheduled my liability. for a couple of days later. As soon as I showed the plumber my toilet he said, "We don't work on these kinds of toilets" I asked him to explain and he said our company doesn't want to take on the liability of working on this kind of toilet (sump pump tank in the basement) because if they do something wrong and it floods the basement they would be liable. Well it would have been nice to know that they didn't work on these kind of toilets before I waited almost two weeks from the time I asked to talk to a plumber to discuss my toilet to the time they came. If they had let me talk to a plumber two weeks ago he could have told me that they didn't work on these types of toilets and I could have called another company instead of wasting my time and money waiting on them. Since nothing was fixed and I had two hours left I just had the plumber look at the other plumbing fixtures and rooms in my house just to check and make sure everything was ok. I don't blame the plumber because he didn't know what kind of toilet I had before he visited, but I do blame the company for not allowing me to speak to a plumber before hand so I could have told them right then and there what kind of toilet I have and they could have told me they didn't work on those types. Instead I wasted 2 weeks and money on a company that did nothing for me but waste my time and money. I would highly suggest that in the future they allow people to speak with a plumber in advance of the visit just to briefly explain the problem not just some receptionist that doesn't know anything about plumbing. I feel they wasted my time and money and I will never use their services again.
Description of Work: .I called them to fix my leaky toilet and unclog my tub drain. They didn't fix the toilet and the tub had already unclogged itself before they came. Since the plumber said he couldn not fix my toilet I had him just checke the sinks in my bathroom, kitchen and my water pressure.

I actually called John at Action Services a few months ago for an estimate for a new roof on my Dad's rental property. I liked the way he explained the roofing process and how he tried to work with me on it. I decided to hold off on the roof until it was decided whether the property was to be sold to developers or as a duplex. Recently, Action had a coupon available for new windows for $2,999. I jumped at the chance! The windows I have are original to my house. My house was built in 1979 back when there was a housing boom and houses couldn't be put up fast enough in my area. Because the houses were built with such haste, the windows and sliding doors were not sealed. We replaced our sliders with french doors, but now there were the windows to take care of. We got quotes from other companies which were absolutely ridiculous ($6,000 for five windows!), so we put off new windows for several years. When Action ran their coupon , I was there! I already liked the company, and because they were on Angies List, I decided to have them do the work. They sent Tony out to measure the windows, and imediately, John called back with a great estimate and a time frame of 3-4 hours for installation. We scheduled the appointment. The workers came right on time and got the windows in within the time frame. My husband was there in the morning when the work started and was impressed with how the workers explained everything to him, showed him what they were doing, and answered any questions he had. My husband was leary of "retrofit" windows because he thought that if there was a problem with the frame (the windows are attached to the old frame) the windows would mask a problem and not take care of it. My husband's concerns were put to rest when they showed him how the windows were sealed after putting them on. After completion, they had me look at all the windows (they looked great!) and made sure that I was happy before I signed off on them. The following day, John called to make sure that everything was ok. After being burned a couple of times with work that was done on my home, I was really very happy to find a company that I feel I can trust. That's HUGE for me! Because Action is a construction company, I'm going to have them come out and look at the shoddy wiring job that was done in my kitchen when we had it put in. They are very professional and care about their customers satisfaction.

I called the company and when I talked to the lady at Action Services she said she was not going to honor the Big Deal at all that Angie's List misunderstood and had the wrong thing typed up for the coupon. She said that the $35.00 was only for an estimate that would go towards the cost of the work that would be done. All I want is for them to honor this coupon.
