Jason Anderson of Anderson Designs! I could not have asked for a better design and build team to work with. Jason and his crew were awesome from beginning to end! Major crew members: Mark (foreman/plumber/construction/do-it-all extraordinaire), Nevin (Jason's other do-it-all assistant), Eddie & Junior (construction), Art (plumbing), Mr. Tony (framing), Dave (electrician), Carlos (quartz fabricator/installer), Victor & son (stucco), Bill/Christian/Adon (window installers), Omar & Agustine (tiling), Ivan & Sebastian (cabinets), Jeremy (Dixieland for front door & handles) Feb. 7 - Initial Design Consultation (3 hrs). We met with the company owner, Jason Anderson. They are definitely not your usual design and build firm plus Jason has a mobile showroom which was a converted bus. We immediately saw the passion Jason had for his company and vision we had for our home. We talked about scope of work, goals, and budget. We also talked about the other contractors we interviewed before him; all were less than stellar experiences with an independent contractor as well as two other well known and expensive San Diego design-build firms (L*** and M*******). Jason educated us on "Windows 101" and saved us A LOT of money and heartache we almost spent on another company. We literally signed a contract with this other window company the night before and cancelled the contract the same night since we were within our 3 day right to cancel. Thank you Jason! Feb. 10 - Design Consultation Continued (3 hrs). On this visit, we looked at cabinet and tile samples from Jason's mobile showroom. He may not have a walk in showroom but having his mobile showroom was quite convenient. Choosing samples allowed Jason to work on the bid so he could stay within our budget. Feb. 11 - Final Bid Write-up (6-7 hrs). On this day, Jason came back with his giant 32" monitor. He put up the itemized contract so that my husband and I could walk through the entire bid with him...line by line. We knew exactly what we were getting and what we were paying for. He also included a checklist of the items we needed to buy ourselves (i.e., major appliances, fixtures, etc.) that they would install for us. At the end of the contract review, Jason came in under our budget. We signed with him that same night. Feb. 17 - We received the CAD drawings from Jason. We requested a couple of modifications which he agreed with and sent updated CADs that night. Feb. 18 - Hubby and I went appliance shopping and decided on a 42" built-in refrigerator instead of a 36" slide-in. If you did not already know, this is a major change order that Jason was none too pleased about because it created a domino effect of changes involving the cabinets, lighting, etc. Again, Jason accepted the change order and sent us updated CADs later that night. Unfortunately, this change order absorbed any contingency we had left in our budget but we accepted it anyway. Feb. 20-21 - Demo started as well as framing and electrical started. Feb. 26 - Scope of work add-on: Since we were getting new windows and planning to paint the exterior, we decided to contract Jason to get rid of the meringue texture and re-stucco the entire exterior. We love the end result! Mar. 10 - All major appliances (refrigerator, cooktop, wall oven, sinks, toilets, etc...) to be delivered to the house this day. Unfortunately, Jason's crew was a few days behind schedule and not ready to install. Another problem was that there was no room in the house or the garage to store the appliances. Rather than rescheduling the delivery, Jason had the appliances picked up by his crew and stored until his team was ready for the install. Mar. 14 - After spending more than $35K in high end appliances and fixtures with a local company (F*******), we started having disappointing customer service issues. Jason stepped in and contacted the manager on our behalf. Jason showed us how much he has our back and that he is not just an ordinary general contractor. He was not only our contractor but becoming a trusted friend. Thank you Jason! Because we were having the exterior updated, we needed and wanted a new modern front door to match and we needed it quickly while the painters were on property. Jason called his buddy Jeremy (Dixieline) who found us the perfect door in stock and ready to install. Within a few days, Jason had the door was delivered, custom painted, and installed. Thank you Mark and Jason! Apr. 3-4 - Before we hired Anderson Design, we purchased a beautiful 36” x 8” gray ceramic wood-look tile and coordinated install with a popular local company (M**** F*******). I have nothing but praise for Marco who installed the tile; he did a beautiful job. However, the experience with the base board installers was a complete disaster (by the way, we were told that these base board installers do not install door casings; this was a surprise to Jason). Keep in mind, these installers are subcontracted by the flooring store. After Jason saw the first day’s work of baseboard install, he could not believe the horrible job they were doing. He sent us numerous pictures and contacted the flooring store absolutely livid. The flooring store brushed off Jason’s complaint with no resolution. This was becoming a stressful situation but again Jason stepped in. We ended up firing the base board installers and agreed that Jason would complete the baseboard install (added to scope of work). Jason saved our butts again plus there was no way he was going to let their awful awful work reflect onto the beautiful kitchen he had just installed. HUGE HUGE thank you Jason! Apr. 5 - I had ordered brand new Emtek door knobs and locks from Jeremy (Dixieline). Jason picked up the order from Dixieline but was surprised to see an order for 7 doors. He thought he was only picking up the handles and lock for the new front door. I failed to mention the other doors because I assumed we would change out the handles ourselves (how hard could that be right?) Jason stepped in had his crew install all the handles for us. Thank you Mark and Jason! Apr. 6 - Talked to Jason about the exterior paint and trim and the quotes we got from other contractors. He gave us a competitive bid and we went with him (added to scope of work). Thank you Jason! Apr. 7 - Yikes! I ordered the wrong shower arms. Jason gladly had the correct arms installed when they finally came in. Thank you Mark and Jason! Apr. 8 - Uh-oh! Solar tube that was supposed to be installed in the guest bathroom ended up in the master bath. That was a very happy mistake for us because I love the light that comes into the master bath now. Jason without saying a word about it had a 2nd solar tube installed in the guest bathroom as originally planned. Thank you Jason! Apr. 9 - As I was finalizing the location of bathroom towel rods and robe hooks (everything was brushed nickel), Jason made sure I understood the best locations (pros and cons) for these items so that glass doors and mirrors didn’t get damaged. Thank you Mark and Jason! Apr. 15-16 - Yipee! On Easter Sunday (Apr. 16), we moved back into our basically brand new, gorgeous, modern, and energy efficient house! However, the master bathroom light had not been working since the night before so I texted Jason about it the next day on Easter. I wasn’t really expecting him to reply since it was Easter Sunday plus I told him just to get back to me on the next business day (Monday). Guess what? Jason texted me back right away and handled it. By the way, that same day he was at the hospital waiting for his son to be born. Trust me...this man has passion for his clients. Within the next couple of hours, Dave (electrician) showed up to our house before going to his own Easter Sunday activities to help us out and make sure we had power to the master bath. Seriously these guys really go above and way beyond taking care of their clients. Thank you Jason and Dave! Apr. 21 - Final walk through complete with a short punch list of items. What I hope you take away from this review is that Jason (and his entire team) at Anderson Designs have passion for what they do. We cannot thank them enough for
