My Kitchenaid refrigerator started getting warm inside (above 50 degrees, food spoiled). I removed the back panel inside the refrigerator and found that the entire inside behind the panel was iced up solid, so I defrosted it with a hairdryer, which fixed the problem. However, a few months later, it iced up again and wouldn’t stay cold. I called Kitchenaid, and they sent Payless Appliance out. Their tech came out and saw the ice coming out of the vents at the bottom of the back panel. He ordered parts and came back and installed them, stating that that should fix the problem. The total cost was over $400. However, about 35 days later, the same thing happened again. I called Payless, and after arguing with Erica the manager (because they only warranty their repairs for 30 days), she finally agreed to send out another tech. He defrosted the unit, but did not fix or replace anything. He said he could not find anything wrong. I called Erica again. She was very unhelpful, impolite, argumentative, and kept interrupting me. She said, "Is your refrigerator working now?" and I said yes, but the root cause of it icing up has not been fixed. She insisted that there is nothing wrong with the refrigerator, since it was working now and the tech couldn't find any defective part, and she refused to do anything more. She said I should call a different repair company. That is unacceptable. I asked Erica to let me speak to her manager, and she refused. She just gave me her manager’s first name (Patricia) and email address. I sent her three emails requesting that she call me to tell me how she proposed to fix my refrigerator. She never called me and never replied to any of my emails. The refrigerator iced up again about a month later, and I had to call another company to fix it correctly, at a cost of another $400. Payless Appliance is clearly incompetent to repair refrigerators. They do not stand behind their work, and their customer service is terrible.
