Tony from Celebrity Tile was great to work with. He listened to what I wanted and he was open to my suggestions about types of things that I wanted done. He was very professional. He did an excellent job. He did it the old school way so I know it was a great job. He had his own suggestions of things they should do on their end. I took almost all of his suggestions. Except for the fact it was my only bathroom and I was without it for five weeks it was a really good experience. He was really good and I had a toilet every night. I would definitely use him again.

The grout that was regrouted didn't stick and is coming off in chunks.
The new floor tile area that he did is also breaking off along the edges.
We told him about the problems but he erroneously told me the repair was made over a year ago and never called back.
I think the regrouting may not have been done correctly, though honestly it was a challenging job.
But the floor that he did the total job on also did not hold.
Grout is challenging and we are hiring someone else to try to fix it.

He did such a beautiful job on the tile for the fireplace.  It was not just the choice of tile that made the job beautiful but the fact that the tiles are so evenly spaced. I would highly recommend him.

He gave me a discount, but he requested a good review on Angie’s List.  There were a lot of delays on getting the work completed, but some were not his fault.  It was a delay of months.  He said he would help me find a store to purchase the tile, and he provided recommendations.  He said he would give me a discount, but I think I was overcharged.  He also said he would give me a contract, but he didn’t provide it until after the job was finished.

Tony is a great guy to work with. He gave the fair estimate for the job and started immediately. He did a good job of covering everything (From the carpet floors on the way to the bathroom floors where the work happened) He was very professional and accommodation for our schedule. he explained every step that was involved in the process and completed the job to my satisfaction. He even recommended what brand tiles, shower, primer to choose by providing details. He was very friendly and I would not hesitate to call him for another job.

My condo had some re-grouting that needed to be done around the bathtub. It was only a small space that needed work, but never the less, Tony and his helper from Celebrity Tile arrived on time, were very professional and performed an excellent job. They even went the extra mile and re-grouted an area around my bathroom sink that I hadn't even considered. Overall, very outstanding job. I would highly recommend their service.

Tony estimated the job, calculated the tile order, and then came in to do the work once the (handmade) tile arrived.  The tile for this job was handmade and uneven in size, not always flat, requiring considerable attention to detail.  The job certainly had its issues.  For example, half way through the job, we discovered that we didn't have enough tile to do the job according to the design...I have no idea how that happened.  But Tony solved the problem in an aesthetically acceptable way.  When problems came up, as they do on any job, and I pointed them out to Tony, he solved them.  When there was anything that wasn't how I wanted it, Tony worked to fix it.
Working with Tony is different, unique.  He does the work himself (with helpers) and brings his ebullient Italian-style temperament to the job.  He is a character, in every sense of that word.  If you are expecting an estimate from one person followed by a nameless, faceless team of workers doing (hopefully) a factory perfect, cookie cutter job, that's not what you get with Tony.  If you enjoy working with a craftsman who  has character, in every sense of that word, and a colorful personality, you may find this an unexpectedly colorful experience.

Normally, I don?t provide feedback on folks I don?t actually hire, but if you live in an apartment, condo, or live in the city, you may want
to try someone other than Celebrity Tile.
Based on strong Angie?s List reviews, I called Celebrity Tile for an emergency quote (sheetrock/tile removed due to water damage caused by upstairs neighbor). I dismissed the negative comments and retorts by Tony (my mistake). Getting a quote started fine but ended up being a painful, disappointing process. The water damage made my only shower unusable so the project was a bit urgent. Tony, the owner, returned my initial message very quickly even though he was ill. I sent him a very detailed design document which we discussed via phone. We planned to have Tony meet my tenant and do a site visit on a Sunday. Tony cancelled 2-hours ahead of time since he still wasn?t feeling well. That was fine ? things happen (it was Sunday, after all). He apologized and confirmed his interest in bidding on the job. So we rescheduled for that next Tuesday. A week had now gone by.
On Tuesday, Tony was actually half-hour early which is better than being late, but not exactly convenient as my tenant wasn?t prepared since it was unannounced. He hadn?t reviewed the design documents, didn?t bring any copies, and generally wasn?t prepared. We all spent about 45-minutes discussing the project and he promised a proposal that night (Tuesday). Tuesday night came but the proposal never arrived. Wednesday night, I was ?dismissed? via voicemail without any reason being given.
In discussing this with my tenant, she mentioned he had been grumbling because of the condo?s location (high-rise building), parking, logistics, liability, etc. I really wouldn?t mind except it cost me over a week and I was without a shower. I wish he had been more forthright when we originally spoke as I made it clear this was an SF condo and his business is listed in SF (it?s not).
Ultimately this was a 1-1/2 week $7000 shower surround and floor of a standard bathroom ? nothing fancy. All in all, I lost time. Partially my fault ? the prudent thing to do is schedule 3-quotes and tell two of them ?Sorry, I went with someone else,? but I hate wasting anyone?s time.
I wouldn?t consider Celebrity Tile for any type of work after the experience I had.

"I was shocked to find a review, that was posted from a person who lives in Tampa, Florida two months later. She had contacted me in order to give her an estimate to tile her bathroom tub back and floor in San Francisco. This condo is a rental unit with an upset renter , she had a bathroom which was already demolished due to a previous mold situation, (it was obvious to me that this project had been going on for some time). I arrived on site to find additional mold in tub area. The owner, renter, and I were on a conference call. I notified the owner that there was still existing mold. The previous contractor had not removed all of the existing mold. I alerted the owner that I would not be able to legally cover up any mold situation, as mold will return in full force if not completely eradicated. I could tell that this made the owner upset. I let her know that I could remove all of the mold and include that in the tile installation price. I gave her my estimate. Note: due to lack of work area in the condo this would drive up labor cost. This would be due to the traveling time back and forth several floors between the garage and the condo. As one can clearly see, labor costs go up per man hour. My bid was more than fair and accurate, with much consideration to the situation. Not all jobs and conditions are equal. To future customers as well as my previous customers, please see my unanimously positive reviews over the last few years. These reviews contributed to my "Super Service Award" which only 5% of Angie's List contractors have. Thank you for your time and consideration. Tony Spavone Celebrity Tile (415) 250-3416"

We met on 2/11, we scheduled for 2/16, a Saturday by the way, at 8:30, he was spot on time, told me it would take about 4 hours (it took him 3), and he did a great great job. I had to go out for a while and he was cleaned up and gone before I got back, which was too bad because I wanted to let him know how nicely it turned out. Personally, he is really nice and great to chat with!

Tony gave a competitive estimate. The tile in the bath looks great and he did a nice job on the floor. My only complaints are  that there were a couple of nicks left in the bath tub which the tub should have been protected during construction and he didn't finish the caulking around the crown molding that he installed or seal the grout as promised.
Response from FSP General Contractors

Do: 1) Tony did great work in bathroom.  New tiles were a terrific match to existing tiles!! Most importantly, tub no longer leaks. Tony stayed to his estimate. We would totally bring Tony back for bath and tile jobs.
Do: 2) Just as with his bathroom work, Tony completely repaired our 'vent' issues.  And, he stayed to his estimate.
Don't: 3) Replacing exterior rot issues was not his best work. I would not recommend Tony perform jobs outside his 'bath and tile' area of expertise.

He was very quick to respond to my phonecall and come over for an estimate.  He gave me the sense that he was experienced at laying tile and he could handle the tile job easily along with the other miscellaneous things that needed to be done.  When he told me his estimate he included other miscellaneous things such as a new plywood surface for countertops if needed, once he pulled up the old countertop.  He also offered to cut the holes in the plywood for the sink cutouts so that I wouldn't have to rely on yet another contractor to do so.  This was very helpful and not part of the original scope of the job.  He made short work of the demo of the countertops and the floor.  The tile was laid with a precise eye and looks beautiful.  He worked with me to create the thresholds that I would like at both of the kitchen entries.  On one side he custom made a wood threshold and on the other side, upon my suggestion, he cut the floor tiles to create a custom threshold so I didn't have to introduce a new color/type of tile.  Upon my request he returned to our house to fill a few grout lines that were a little shy of grout.  Overall, we are very pleased with his tile job.  He is also a very positive and happy person so he is enjoyable to work with. I would definitley recommend Tony to a friend! He is very skilled and can be trusted to do a great tile job.

Our house had been remodeled 21 years ago and there were stains in some of the grout and cracked tiles in some bathrooms and cracks in the grout in an exterior tile deck. We had spoken with two separate companies that that stated the interior grout could not be cleaned and that nothing could be done. We found Tony on Angie's List. He was very reponsive and his pricing was, in our opinion, very fair, He replaced the exterior grout and repaired the interior areas. The job expanded somewhat after we were comfortable with Tony's performance and chose to fix some other problem spots. Changes were discussed in advance and additional charges were known and agreed to in advance. Tony did a very good job for us at a fair price--looks like new!

I reached out to Tony based on the outstanding recommendations provided on Angie's List.  Within 2 hours I received a phone call from Tony.  We set an appointment and he arrived on time and with a smile.
Tony is very pleasant to speak with.  He is professional and is eager to dive into a project.  He provided his estimate (which was reasonable), we set a date for the work to be completed.
Again, he arrived on time and ready for work.
A couple of weeks later we noticed that a small portion of the material had contracted.  I called Tony and he was, as always, friendly and eager to please.  "I guarantee my work.  I will make it right".  The next day he arrived a little early, came in, resolved the issue and departed all the while smiling.
If you're looking for someone with a bad attitude who does mediocre work, don't contact Tony.  If you want a true professional who clearly enjoys his craft and likes meeting new folks, Tony is you man.

First of all, Tony is a very nice and conscientious guy who takes a lot of pride in his work. This came through when we did the interviews for the job. He was not the cheapest by any means but for the quality of the product I feel like he was the best deal.  We needed 1) a roof deck of approximately 600 square feet floated and tiled with 2' x 2' granite tile; 2) a staircase built up and evened out, then surfaced with 1 1/2" thick stair treads (hard to work with); and 3) an entryway leveled and tiled.  We contracted Tony to do the first 2 jobs and were so pleased that we had him do the 3rd job which came afterwards.  The quality of his work is excellent and, like I said earlier, he takes pride in it and corrected anything that is was not perfect in our eyes.  He showed up on time and cleaned up afterwards - he even battled through the flu at one point to get the job done on time. He is a very constant communicator (very positive thing) so we always knew where we stood on the project and could discuss any options as the job progressed.  The end result is fantastic and we highly recommend him.  I have worked as a carpenter for 8 years (through high school and college summers) and have since remodeled and built 3 homes so I feel I am a decent judge of contractors. I gladly give Tony an "A" as he has been in the top end of the contractors I have dealt with.

About 4 square feet of the tiles on the shower wall of my tub/shower combo had to be removed to replace the faucets and the company that made the tiles went out of business 4 years ago! Using newer tiles would leave an ugly patch and my original tiler said the old tiles couldn't be used.  I was very upset until I met Tony Spavone of Celebrity Tile.  Tony assured me that he could use the old tiles, if they were in good shape, to repair the wall.  He cleaned the green board and old grout off the tiles and replaced them so beautifully that you would never know they had ever been touched!  Wow, am I thankful to have found Tony, who is one heck of a nice guy, too.

Overall, we are thrilled to have found Tony Spavone with Celebrity Tile on Angie?s List!

We are do it yourself kind of people and only hire specialized contractors when necessary.  The original person we hired to tile our bathroom did a terrible job, absolutely the worst work we have ever seen.  The tiles were falling off the walls before the guy left our driveway, our new tub was chipped and scratched, the driveway and porch were splattered with mortar and grout, debris was thrown down the hillside behind our house, the list goes on...  I was literally in tears by the time the original contractor left and we felt robbed!!!

This lead us to Angie?s list in search of someone to fix the horrible expensive disaster.

Fortunately, Tony was willing to step in and save the day.  He was professional, on time, exceptionally clean, positive attitude, did more work than we asked for to get the job done right and correct the poor quality of the previous job. Tony was also very reasonably priced! The glass tiles including the bullnose look just beautiful.  Even in our crooked old house, he was able to get straight lines in the small brick glass tile.  Tony really is a skilled craftsman!!!  Tony also cleaned up the remaining tile work from the previous contractor just to help us out and keep us from having to replace that too. He was able to recommend a variety of tile shops that were within our budget and carried tiles that matched what we really wanted.  Tony went above and beyond and we are so lucky to have found him!! We couldn?t be happier with Tony and will certainly hire him again for our next tile project.

Tony has also called a couple times since the project was finished to ensure we are happy with the work. He stands by his work and genuinely wants his customers to be happy and we certainly are!!!

Tony responded right away to my request for an estimate. Since his price seemed reasonable[ work was at my daughter's flat above my home], I requested the work be done before my daughter and family returned from their vacation. He was very accomodating. He did a very good job, was professional and cleaned well after his work. I highly recommend him. He left me his e mail address where he can also be reached and I would like to share that. We were very impressed with Tony's work. He was tidy and neat in preparation. He masterminded a beautiful tile and marble layout for our shower. His design was stunning. He made the bullnose for the shower walls himself. He worked over 8 hours a day to complete the job in approx. 1 week. He did not take any short-cuts, and did quality tile work. Wonderboard was not used, and the tile was cemented. Tony cleaned up well after himself. P.S. He's also got a great personality; he's kind and humorous.
