Description of Work: I called the first time and spole to Igor. He said he was busy at that time and would call me later that day. Never did. I called him again and we set up an appt. His unresponsiveness should have been a red flag, but oh well. He showed up and looked over the Samsung dryer. A few minutes later, he showed me two dimes and said that they had caused the dryer to short out and it would be $365 to repair same. I said no. Don't bother. It's too expensive and paid him the $45 service call fee. I called Sears and they finally came out the following week and charged $245 for a sensor that had gone bad. Very dissatisfied with Igor's service. Would never call him again for any service on anything. Felt he was dishonest.

Description of Work: We have a range hood we purchased off the internet from a supplier in Kentucky. It has a sophisticated touch panel that has a mind of its own - sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, sometimes starts-up on its own. The supplier offers only a parts warranty and the unit was designed and built in China - the supplier has no technical information on diagnosing problems. Based on my description, they sent me a new circuit board which, unfortunately, requires unwiring the whole hood to replace. So I called several appliance repair firms from Angie's List and Universal was the only one that was responsive. I e-mailed details about the situation to them and then spoke with Igor. I decided to have him come out and diagnose the unit and then take it from there. Igor and Serge showed-up right on-time and quickly identified that the problem was not the circuit board but, rather, the touch panel which was fairly easy to replace. He showed me how to replace it myself and suggested I call the supplier for a new touch panel unit since the unit was unique to that particular range hood and was not a generally available part. He charged me only for the service call ... at a very reasonable price.

Description of Work: Igor provided excellent service at a great price. Universal Appliance Service was the 6th company I called for an estimate to fix my Viking range. Viking told me that I needed a new knob and thermostat and that the service should be simple. Sharp Appliance quoted me $650 based on my model number. Around the Clock quoted $500. Acme Appliance quoted $427. Igor quoted $238 with the $20 coupon.

Description of Work: Our dishwasher lost its ability to circulate water, and the local repair service I've used in the past said it would be 10 days before they could come out (due to a sudden severe staffing shortage). With Thanksgiving less than a week away, and no other repair service I felt I could trust, I decided to do an Angie's List search. That's when I found Universal Appliance Service, which isn't local to me geographically but had a good rating from customers and served my area. Best of all, they treated me like a member of their family, when I called, desperately seeking service and advice. Lana, the office staff member, said she would have a technician call me, to see if he could give me his thoughts on what might be the problem, what it would likely cost (if he could diagnose it at all by phone) and whether it would be worth fixing my rather elderly dishwasher. Sergei called me back that same afternoon, on his way to a service call, walked me through a basic test, determined it was very likely the pump that had failed and asked Lana to look up the part number, based on the model number of the machine. As it turned out, the pump my dishwasher needed was no longer being made by the manufacturer, so there would be no point having anyone come out to repair it. Sergei's diagnostic advice had not only saved me a trip charge, but was kind enough to call me back that very same day (after 5:00 p.m.) to provide advice on buying a new dishwasher (best manufacturers and features to look for). Even though I can't comment on Sergei's repair skills, the professional way he and Lana conducted themselves -- and Sergei's patience in walking me through the dishwasher diagnosis -- speaks volumes about the way Universal Appliance Service does business. I wouldn't hesitate to call them again, should anything go wrong with the appliances in our house.

Description of Work: Repaired broken oven door, did not charge me for this service. Repaired soap dispenser in my dishwasher, cleaned the machine inside and out. Got it working smoothly.

Description of Work: We had a dryer that no longer produced any heat. Igor removed the dryer (a stacked unit), removed a few parts after diagnosis, and ordered the replacement items. When the replacements arrived, Igor promptly returned and reassembled the unit.

Description of Work: My relatively new oven just stopped working(heating). I called another company first for an estimate. After checking the oven for about 30 min, they basically told me that they have to change several parts and it would take about a week to have the oven working. They also gave me an estimate of about $700. Obviously, I needed another opinion. An acquainance recommended Universal Appliance Service and they came out the next day. It was obvious immediately that the technician was knowlegeable and professional. Within the next couple of hours and only $250, my oven was working perfectly. I'm very grateful for having contacted them and will always use them in the future (and will recommend them to all).

Description of Work: I can't say enough great things about Igor. He is super honest, responsive and does great work. He has done a few jobs at our house and each one was done quickly and very well. He has fixed both of our ovens, one is electric and one is gas and he has fixed our gas stove top. Igor does great work and he has a great sense of humor!! We will absolutely call Universal again.
