When we picked up the shelving unit from the factory, the box was damaged. Since they claimed not to have any more in stock we took it home. The very first piece we took out of the box was dented. As were the second and third pieces. I called the store and was spoken to in a patronizing manner by one of the salesmen. When I told him not to talk down to me, he said he'd let me speak to the manager. I explained that the piece was damaged, that there were people at the factory picking up replacement items because the items they purchased were damaged. That all the boxes we saw at the factory were damaged and as such I didn't feel confident that we were going to receive a piece of furniture that was worth the price we paid and I wanted my money back. He said they didn't accept returns (At this point I saw that in writing on the receipt, my fault for not noticing it when I was buying the piece of junk because I wouldn't have purchased it. In my mind, no upstanding furniture company doesn't accept returns so obviously Modern Furniture knows they're selling c*** and they don't want people to be able to return it.) and I'd have to call the factory to order a replacement. I told him that wasn't acceptable. He refused to budge and in frustration I hung up on him. My husband and I were willing to keep it, damage and all, but when we couldn't even assemble it because it was manufactured so poorly, my husband called the store manager back. He eventually got the store manager to agree to have a replacement shelving unit assembled at the factory to make sure it wasn't damaged and would actually go together properly and the store manager said he'd have someone from the factory deliver it the following week and pick up the original unit that was damaged and wouldn't go together.
Description of Work: We purchased a wall unit from this store. After waiting almost a month to receive it, multiple pieces of the shelving unit were damaged (smashed, dented, scratched) and when we tried to assemble it, we couldn't even put it together because it was manufactured so poorly none of the holes where you attach the shelves lined up. It was a completely useless piece of c***.
