So, we've had them out to our house about 3 or 4 times in the past 2 months. At first, I had them out to look at two hot water faucets in two separate shower/baths that were leaking. The plumber was a young nice guy. He suggested that we replace the entire stems as well as the seats, gaskets, etc. The price would be $175 per shower/bath. That seemed high but when I considered that it included the entire stem replacement rather than just seats/gaskets, it seemed reasonable. In years past with other plumbers, we had only replaced seats/gaskets and they eventually went bad again within a couple years. So hopefully a whole new stem would extend the timeframe between repairs. I also mentioned that I would like to consider getting a whole new faucet setup in one of those shower/baths to enable temp control so that the kids don't get burned when someone flushes the toilet. He gave me some quotes but wasn't sure if there were cheaper options said they would need to talk with the office to find out if any cheaper solutions existed. So I elected to just replace the stems, etc. for $175 in each bathroom and would consider the other upgrade in the future. He was very courteous and always wore booties on his shoes when entering the house. However, a couple days later one of the faucets in the kids bathroom that had been replaced was leaking again. I called them and a different gentleman came out. He was very apologetic about the problem. since they were out again, I discussed the temperature control option and they offered me a deal to install that solution for slightly over $700, since they had to take apart these faucets anyway to find the problem. I had to push for this. And I had to push for him to communicate with the office to find out what work had been done because he didn't seem aware of what had been performed previously. When doing the new work, he did confirm that for some reason the previous gentleman had not replaced one of the seats - it was still the old one, even though everything else was new. He did check the seats on the other bathroom (upon my request) to ensure they were replaced properly - he said that they were. When time came to install the new single handle positemp valve system (which involved cutting tile and using a large faceplate to cover the opening where the previous two-handle setup had been, it took quite a while. He seemed to be struggling with a few things but since it was a fixed price service, I wasn't worried about how much time it took him. As he was finishing up and about to put caulking in place around the edges of the faceplate and other areas, I noticed that the face plate appeared to be installed upside down. This was apparent because there is a small notch in the metal that would normally be on the underside but it was on the top side. When I asked him about that, he said "oh yeah, I was going to ask you if you want me to turn it the other way". I said, yes of course, it's upside down and although he was going to caulk it, the notch would provide a potential entry point for water to leak inside the wall. Not to mention the simple fact that if you're installing a new system, install it the right way. While we are all human and can make mistakes, I was annoyed by the fact that he even asked the question about whether I "wanted" it turned the right way or not. This made me a little concerned about whether there were any quality issues inside the wall that I couldn't see, since installing these positemp valves involves some serious pipe work. Nonetheless, after he finished up and the caulking dried, the shower operated as designed and has been great. I had some reservations about that interaction involving the upside face plate as well as the initial error by the first gentleman that failed to replace one of the seats, but I was still willing to work with them in the future. (By the way, they had installed 3 or 4 fairly expensive toilets for us many years ago and although expensive the toilets have served us well.) So when the shower head in our master bathroom started leaking last week, I contacted them again. The same gentleman arrived that had been here last time. I showed him the shower head that was leaking and he said it would cost $175 to repair seats, etc. I only half listened at first because the $175 number sounded familiar from previous visits. However, I realized a little later that he was NOT including replacement of the stems in that price. After turning off the water to the house and draining most of our hot water heater in prep to do the work, he informed me that he was using a different truck this morning and didn't have the tools he needed to repair the faucets and would need to go and come back another time. I informed him about the $175 price previously including stems and he kind of stuttered and said that if I had gotten that price before, he would find out if they can do that again. I really started to feel like if I hadn't said anything, I would have $175 for a basic seat/gasket replacement for no good reason. I don't know each person wouldn't have the exact same quoting. (FYI the faucets are identical in all our bathrooms, so it was not an iissue of different styles or brands.) Since he had to leave to get the right tools, I also showed him a couple other things that we would want to get fixed. A sink faucet in the laundry room and a new valve under the sink in the kitchen. They weren't top priority so we could schedule those whenever convenient but fixing the leaking hot water in the shower was the main issue. So he said he would go get tools and would be in touch a little later to come back and get the shower faucets fixed. This was around 11am. At 4:23pm, the office person calls me to say that he would be coming back to our house in around 40 minutes - so around 5pm. I told them that we wouldn't be home at that point and that I had no idea he was going to be so late. He had implied that he would be coming right back. So while I may consider using them again in the future, for now, I'm looking at other plumbers. The following issues combined were just too much to not try someone new: 1) Faucet seat not replaced in initial repair 2) Shower/bath face plate installed upside down until I "requested" it be fixed 3) Pricing of $175 for merely replacing seats/gaskets but NOT stems was too high and inconsistent with previous work. Felt like we were getting scammed for extra money. 4) Didn't have necessary tools although we had already turned off water and drained much of hot water heater. 5) Left at 11am promising to come back shortly with proper tools, didn't hear from them until 4:23pm for possible arrival at 5pm.
